Light Weight Stand with Weak Link

    Posted
    scarmike67

This looked like a medium duty stand in the picture. It was more light duty than I though it would be. The legs are really weak. After about 15 uses, one of the bottom leg sections broke at the clasp. There is a thin white plastic sleeve that fits between the legs at each clasp, and this plastic sleeve broke, so now the leg won't clasp together. This makes the bottom leg sections useless unless you use duct tape. Also, I don't like the handle that's used to position the camera. There is a cup shaped fitting under it with a notch. If you want to tilt the camera all the way forward, the notch has to be lined up straight with the camera before it will tilt. Stand might be ok for limited use a few times a year, but not something for regular use every week or two. I emailed pics to the mfgr and waiting for a response since it has a 'limited lifetime'. Will update if I get a response.

Not good for larger zoom cameras

Build quality seems to be ok for the price but overall the product doesn't meet my needs. I have a Nikon P900 (the super-zoom moonshot camera) and my hope was that the pistol grip on this would allow me to be at high zoom and then lock the camera without having to twist a lever to tighten. The pistol grip does a much better job with this, but unfortunately this tripod has the same problem as just about every other tripod at this price range: the center column shifts no matter how tight everything is or what elevation it is at. What this means for a camera like the Nikon P900 is that, when you are zoomed in on something and your camera is pointed even the slightest bit upward, the camera moves down slightly once you take your hands off the pistol grip/tripod lever. This isn't a problem for your standard zoom lenses, but for the P900 that slight move makes an enormous difference when fully zoomed meaning the object I want to take a picture of can't even be in my viewfinder when I'm setting up the shot if I want it to be in the final picture. TL;DR: Fine for standard photography, bad for high-zoom, terrible for Nikon P900.

Great, sturdy tripod - Getting used to Trigger

This is a good sturdy tripod, but I would still be careful with it. There are plastic parts that could break if it gets thrown around a lot (which I don't do). I'm a casual photographer. I like the height and how it adjusts. However, I'm still getting used to the trigger mechanism. I think this is more for camera photos rather than for video. It is difficult to move side to side without any up and down movement. This is not a knock on the tripod itself, but more so on the style of the tripod. There is a way move side to side without using the trigger mechanism, but I'm not sure that it was totally meant to be used that way as it is not a 100% smooth movement. However, I would mainly recommend this for photographers, but not as much for video cameras.

Pistol Grip for Panning is Pretty Tight

I bought this tripod (my third!) specifically to record my kids' plays, and I'm using it with a nice Sony 4K camera. My other tripods have never panned back and forth well, so I wanted something more fluid and less jumpy. The pistol-grip style is generally better for panning and produces a more consistent movement, but you'll need to have a firm and long grip if you're going to be panning around a lot. I think for most people, this grip is just too tight for consistently fluid movement. Otherwise, this has been a good tripod and I have no complaints. So I guess I'll keep looking for a better tripod, but this will do until I find it.

Not Meant for a DSLR Camera

This tripod is probably great for people who just want it for their cell phone, or a light point and shoot camera. However, I bought it to use with my Nikon DSLR 7500 and it does not handle the weight well at all (I'm not using a large lens with it either, just a 17-85mm zoom lens). It feels as though it could tumble over with the wind easily and the winding handle is not sturdy at all. It unwinds rapidly as soon as I take my hand off the handle, no matter what position I put it in. I started using my camera strap to wrap around it, after I got the camera positioned, just to try and prevent it from spinning and unwinding. Would not recommend to anyone who wants to use this with anything heavier than a small point and shoot camera.

Defective right out of the box. it took over 10 days of daily phone calls and emails to Tocad/Sunpack to get a response. At first it seemed hopeful that they would send a replacement part but it turned out to be a hollow promise. 20 days later and still no part. Contact them again and they take another week to tell me that part was sent. Baloney! This is going back to the store and I will be disputing the charge with my credit card company. Hope that you do not have to experience what I did. Sunpack used to be value leader but now they just are slapping their name on junk and not standing behind it. I suggest you look at Manfroto. They may seem like more money but in the end the Sunpack will cost you far more.

I bought my camera and realized I didn't have a tripod so I had to run to Best Buy and get one. There were cheaper ones there but I just couldn't get myself to purchase them. I finally settled on a medium priced tripod. I was expecting it to be basic but I am very happy and surprised. I LOVE the way the top swivels. I also love how expandable it is. I do a lot of crafting projects and occasionally I will record what I'm doing. I love how when I'm sitting in a chair the tripod extends far enough that I can have the camera looking over my shoulder, then I love how the neck swivels so it can be looking down at my work. The level on the tripod is also very helpful to make sure my shots are straight and balanced.

Poor Quality Product - Very Disappointed

I purchased this product to support my DSLR camera, because the product specifications stated that the tripod would indeed support the weight of my camera. When I unboxed the item, I immediately noticed how lightweight and rather flimsy the tripod was. I attached my camera (with a small 50mm lens) to the tripod. The tripod was "wobbly" and did not sturdily support my camera. Then, the tripod fell with my camera attached, but fortunately, I caught it just before it hit the ground. I would not recommend this product, unless you need a tripod for a small point & shoot camera, or a phone. Save your money and invest in a better quality product.

This wasn't the most expensive tripod but it said Lifetime Warranty (limited). The handle used to raise the height broke off. Tried to glue it but no luck. Only used in the house at family functions. I now read to return it I must: Should service be required, the product should be carefully packed (in the original packaging if possible ) and sent, prepaid and insured, along with a check or money order for $15.95 (shipping and handling), to the address listed below. A note briefly describing the nature of the defect should also be enclosed to expedite handling. Proof of purchase and payment for shipping and handling LIMITED WARRANTY all right. Too much of a hassle!!!

I love this tripod. I got it to use with my iPhone X and it is the perfect combo of price and features. It is well made and sturdy and very quick to open and close. I love the pistol grip feature. You simply pull the trigger and point in any direction, then let go and your done. So easy to use! There is also a crank for up and down so it is very easy to adjust for precise shots. It also has a bubble level built in. For the price this has everything I need and it feels well built and it's quick to setup take down. It collapse fast so it's easy to store as well. I am super happy with this tripod!

    Quality at a bargain price

I just got into photography about 6 months ago. I wasn't really sure if having my own tripod was necessary, as my boyfriend has a couple of higher priced ones he lets me use. Knowing the cost of his, I decided not to get my own, plus his are very heavy to carry around! Upon a chance trip to Best Buy, I saw this model. First thing that appealed was the "gun" on the top. I love that. Second I picked it up and oh boy! LIGHT as a feather in comparison. The final deal sealer, the budget friendly price: about 1/4 of the ones we had already. I use this tripod all the time, so does my boyfriend who initially wasn't impressed with it, but once he used it, really digs it. Hurry up and go get one today!

I bought a new camera and I needed a tripod. I needed one that could face in all directions with a lot of variation in height. I needed it to be very sturdy and able to hold the camera even when it was facing completely upwards or downwards. Being able to face downwards was also a big thing for me. I'm so happy with this one. I also bought it on sale, but even if it wasn't on sale the price is very affordable. Over all I'm glad I went with this one instead of the cheaper option. I also like the locking mechanism on the grip which prevents the camera from tilting downwards when it's at strange angles so you can make sure you'll keep the same frame/shot.

This isn't an industrial strength tripod, but for one of the less expensive, lighter weight types, this one is great. I love the pistol grip feature which makes it very quick and simple to adjust the camera angle up, down, left or right without needing to loosen or tighten anything, and it is very smooth, so you can even adjust it while taking video without causing the camera to jerk around. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a good non-commercial tripod for home use or light industrial use.

I was really impressed with this tripod for the price. It is very sturdy and compact. I love the trigger swivel head with level. I found it a little difficult though to pivot the camera without moving the tripod or having to reset the trigger handle. The level is very handy and works well, but it is not very precise. An additional level on the camera plate would be nice to ensure the camera is perfectly level left to right. Overall not a bad tripod for the beginner to intermediate user.

I have been using this tripod for 8 months now and have not had a bit of issues with it. It adjusts well for my height of 5' 7". It has the necessary adjustments I need and have tried many different angles with this to get snaps that I would not have been able to get by holding the camera in my hands. It is great for taking family portraits and group photos plus it allows me to have the camera steady and be able to make fine adjustments to the camera. The legs collapse and extend smoothly and the hardware is solid and sturdy. This tripod does not have a cheep feel to it whatsoever. It does not feel top heavy with the camera mounted on it at all.

I purchased this tripod to use with the Canon 70D...and to my surprise it suffered to support the weight of my camera. When I attempted to use the tripod for extended shots or time lapse images/video the camera would simply tilt or fall to the side. Additionally, when I was using the tripod to photograph the night sky I had the camera pointed to the side when suddenly it began to tilt to the side, resulting in the camera tripod falling (thank God I caught it). Overall, I would recommend this tripod to anyone who is using a standard point-and-shoot camera...but not for anyone with an expensive camera or DSLR.

The trigger adjuster lets you position your camera and lock it in place really fast. You'll have to practice moving your camera during a video recording. I find that I have to steady the camera with one hand and use the trigger with the other to limit shaking. I have to admit this is the second one I purchased. My first one had a problem with one of the locking legs. It has a lifetime limited warranty. You have to mail it back and pay the return postage. So I should have two units pretty soon. So keep your box and receipt, you might need them some day.

I just started product reviews on YouTube and this thing is perfect! It's just a little more than the cheaper tripods that tend to be flimsy, but it's quality enough to keep around if you get more serious and start upgrading your gear. I use an iPhone which makes this even better for stable video. A word of advice, though: if you're using a smartphone adapter, make sure you use the level app on your smartphone because the adapter doesn't reflect the bubble levels installed on this tripod. Good luck creating content with this!

Great Tripod for the price. My main concern was buying a tripod for my camera that was light enough to cart around but also sturdy enough to be secure during setup. I have looked at several and the Ultra 6000PG was the right choice. It has a great pistol grip for fast movement. Always go with the flip lever locks for securing the legs on expansion, the threaded locks do not hold up. Great purchase!

This is exactly the type of tripod I was looking for. I'm an amateur photographer so I didn't want to break the bank on a tripod, but I wanted it to be sturdy, light, and versatile. It's well manufactured - i.e. no loose parts or poor fits. It's light and compact so very easy to carry. It's versatile - stand anywhere from about 2 feet tall to about 5.5' and can stand on uneven ground easily. It's easy to use, too. The one con I would say is how you have to screw on your camera to the mounting platform, but this is how all the tripods worked (at least the ones I looked at).
