My 5 year old fell in love with this game on WiiU but it quit working so I bought it on 3DS. He really enjoys making his own levels and messing with sound effects and designing traps. The levels that people make are extravagant and usually pretty difficult, but are fun to try out. If you like old MARIO games you can’t go wrong, never ending new levels and an outlet for creativity.

I purchased this game for my 10 year old kid, and man did it exceed expectations! He played the game non-stop for almost a week. He stil plays it every day.

Great game to play other user created levels, also fun to create your own. Anyone can play, and the user created levels have varying levels of difficulty.

Another great addition to the Mario Family! I actually enjoy this game as much as my 13 year old son. Incredible way to pass time on road trips.

I bought this for my son, who is a big Mario fan (just like I was, when I was his age). He loves creating and testing out his levels.

Ever since Mario maker came out on the Nintendo Wii U, my son has been waiting for this to come out on the 3DS. Loads of fun! If you like to build and create this is the game for you. And who doesn't like Super Mario Bros? We like how you can share each other's levels via street pass. Street pass is a way to play against other 3DS users via wireless link.

Such a uniquely well thought out game. Keeps things interesting with all the level designs. Simply a wonderful game to have.

Just beat the last world in the Mario challenge to unlock all the items! Overall I think this is a great game. However, not all of the perks are there like the Wii U version. Pros: *You have to play through levels to unlock items. *Levels have added challenges for extra difficulty but are not required. However completing challenges unlocks more worlds. *You can download and play levels created from the Wii U version Cons: *You can't use amiibos *You can't upload your own levels via internet, instead you have to use street pass or download with friends who have the game. Overall it gives you endless mario levels to explore and create. Glad Nintendo made this for the 3DS

The kids really enjoy playing this game. I was lucky to find it at best buy. It was sold out everywhere else

I'll preface this by saying, I'm not a fan of procedural generated games, and while this is not a procedural generated game, I believe it is a negative bias that impacts my review of this game. Let me explain that a little bit. I enjoy games that typically have fixed, memorable levels. To this day, I remember many levels of Super Mario Bros 1 through Super Mario World with fond feelings. A large part of that is replaying the same levels multiple times. For that reason, I don't think Super Mario Maker for the WiiU or this one for the 3ds, held my attention for very long. It's more of a novelty in that respect, where I'll pick it up, play someones level, enjoy it for about 15 minutes, then won't touch it for a while again. Don't get me wrong, the ability to play player generated levels, to generate your own levels, it was fantastically programmed. Almost flawless in execution, and for the alone, I would give it 5 stars. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is for me, and I imagine people like minded... it's not a game that I want to play for long periods of time. Would I recommend this to a friend...yes, I do think it's worth having as part of my collection for the occasional "Okay, I have 15 minutes, and I don't want to start a new 20+ hour game right now". I would probably also recommend this to people with children that like to explore through STEM.

I bought this when it went down to $20 because it became a Nintendo classic title. My little brother loved the Wii U version, so I figured I could get him the 3DS one because it's portable, and when the Switch version comes out later, I'll probably get that too.

My son is loving this game. It’s a good thing because we only bought him the one. Too pricey!

Got this for my son for his birthday, and he has literally dropped all other games to create his own Mario levels! Can't recommend this enough. If you, or whomever is the recipient, enjoy games like Lego Dimensions and Disney Infinity, you will almost certainly love this!

I loved the version that came out on the Wii U. This one is just as fun and is portable. Great for commutes or just wasting time. Building levels is time consuming but it is great to see what comes out at the end. Recommended for those who want to create.
