The game itself is fun, but i do have a few gripes about super mario party that i do not like. On the back of the game itself states "Party anywhere, anyway!" First of all you can Not play the game with a pro controller! No where in the advertising was this ever mentioned. I personally like playing games with a controller or in handheld mode. I like having the option to do so and not to be forced to play a game in one certain way, i found out about the use of the joycons only after i baught the game and looked at the back of the box. This leads me to my second gripe where you can Not play the game in handheld mode! This i do not like at all considering if i was traveling and wanted to play the game by myself on a plane or a train i can't because i am forced to have a table to use one of the joycons. While i understand why they implemented the use if the joycons the way the did i do not agree with the choice. Many of the movements, button controls, and actions can be used with a pro controller. My husbands hands started cramping due to the fact of how you have to hold the joycons in order to play the game. My last conplaint about the game is how small the boards are when playing party mode. Nintendo should have doubled the board size for a better gaming experience. The pros of super mario party are the mini games are all fun, no two games are exactly alike giving it a more diverse feeling. The inclusions of the hub world is a nice touch giving you the option to feel apart of the game. The character animation and bright art syle make it visualy appealing, alont with that the music is nothing special but has the fell of an old mario party game giving it a nostalgic feeling. Lasting of nintendo could send out an update to be able to play the game with a pro contoller And in handheld mode the game would be a must have for any nintendo lover and would have been rated 5 stars!

One of my FAVORITE Nintendo Switch titles. Super Mario Party tends to get more hate than it’s predecessors, but I found that the minigames that went all-in on utilizing the joy con functionality really helped to elevate this title above other Mario Party games. Definitely worth checking out, even at MSRP!

I especially love this game among other Mario games because it's easy and simple to control! I'm not good at fast paced games (like shooting games) but I still can handle this....lol It's great for game night with entire family!!

We have always been a fan of Mario games, especially so of Mario Party ones. We have the Mario Party games from the evolution of Nintendo DS> DSi/XL> 3DS/XL. The one for Switch is also fun. There are a lot of mini games and different “board” layouts for the Party version. There are the classic 4 v. 4, 1 v. 3, and 2 v. 2 options on the mini games. There are a variety of characters to choose from and it’s Amiibo friendly. Haven’t used that option yet though. As far as the actual game play, I’ve noticed it’s mostly one hand dominant play with the controller, but controller can be ambidextrous with a bit of an adjustment. There is a very important note however. THIS GAME ONLY ALLOWS USE OF JOY CON CONTROLLERS! In order to play multiplayer, each player will need a Joy Con controller. We have other Switch compatible “Xbox” looking controllers, but game will not recognize them thus rendering them useless for this game. All in all, it’s a fun game. However, it’s very classic mini game so it can get a bit redundant over time. Still love it though!

Super Mario Party on Switch is a great return to the classic gameplay of the series. Back again are the classic board games that pit you against other players instead of sharing a seat on the same cart and playing together. I like the addition of the rhythm based games in their own separate section of the game as well. There are several unlockable characters and the game has a good selection of around 80 minigames. The single player run through of all the games is a little lackluster as is the online play that lets you play mini-games alone against random strangers with no chat function. Still it's a good step in the right direction and a great title to play with friends. Also of note you will need one joy-con for each player, so if you are going to play with more than two you will need to buy some more controllers to which no aftermarket controllers or even the Pro controller work here. Still it's a great game and worth adding to your collection.

I love old school Party! I was going to wait on this one seeing that i absolutely hated the Wii U Party 10. When i heard it was going to go back to old school Party this was a no brainer! I've played this more in 2 weeks than combined time i played Party 10. My 10 yr old daughter actually liked Party 10 because she never played the old Party's. I told her honey this game is terrible actually and if you had played the others before you would only then understand. She played this and she was like wow this is so much better daddy, you were right! She and I play this all the time. And i like the star awards at the end, you never know what you are going to get an award for. Its totally random and never the same to the next so it changes your board game strategy. Very fun game and the mini games are a lot of fun and easy to play too! Must buy for the Party fan!

love the different maps and play modes. the ability to have game buddys and being able to play with a partner is awesome. wish more of the games from this edition carried over into the jamboree game that released last year

This game is so good and so lacking at the same time. Everything feels and looks great. The mini games are great, the new dice, and allies, the new characters, and the new modes. All make the game feel fresh and awesome. But at the same time the boards are lacking originality and inspiration, they're also very small so at the end of a game it's easy for everyone to have at least a couple of stars and easily 50 plus coins. Basically after the first couple of turns it's rare to run into a time when you're worried you might not be able to afford a star. Items and stars also are cheaper. And there really aren't a great variety of items. Only the poison mushroom effects other players, so messing with each other at crucial moments is less. It's more of a race around the board to get the most stars. And the last thing to complain about is unlocking the solo mode requires you to unlock all the mini games. That seems like it's in the wrong order since you can't really play the full game online. Just seems like an odd choice. All that being said, it is a great Mario Party that is much more in line with the older titles while still bringing fresh new fun things to do. Hears hoping for future DLC boards, or just another installment that will maybe go the "Ultimate" route and just bring back the best of all past Mario Parties into one!

Super Mario Party - Nintendo Switch was excellent. Great value and already had hours of fun shared with friends. Definitely recommend to Super Mario and or Nintendo Switch gamers and fans. Graphics are brilliant and still have the nostalgic feel of the Super Mario games of years gone past. made me want to search through my Mario and Luigi game collection.

This might be my favorite Mario Party game. Nintendo finally returned Mario Party to its classic form. The main mode involved traversing a multi-route board, collecting coins to trade in for a star, and collecting stars to win the game. No more shared carts. Everyone can go their own path. Although they redid how the points system works (for example, 10 coins buys a star, not 20 coins), it all seems to work out in the end. If you enjoyed a group aspect of the 2 previous 2 Mario games, and you would like a more routes in your boards, partner party might be the game mode for you. The player is paired up with a partner, they share dice rolls and they can roam the board freely. Besides the 2 main modes of Mario Party and Partner Party, if you like the minigames but don't like the boards, there are plenty of other options. River Survival has a team of 4 traversing down a rapids river, racing to meet the finish line before time runs out, extending their time with 4-player co-op minigames. Sound stage is a series of fun rhythm based motion games. Challenge Road challenges players not only to win the minigames, but also to reach certain goals, sometimes even asking for perfection. Speaking of minigames, Super Mario Party manages to balance motion control minigames and button pressing minigames perfectly, something the previous few Mario Party games struggled to do. I didn't get to play in Toad's Rec Room because I don't know someone else locally with a Switch and Super Mario Party, but from what I've seen, it looks like mad fun. Super Mario Party starts the player out with 16 characters, then has the player unlock another 4 characters, for a grand total of 20 characters. The most stand out character would have to be Bowser because this is first game in which Bowser is a playable character (not counting Mario Party 10 because he was still an enemy character). In this Mario Party game, players choose their character right after the home screen, unlike previous Mario Party games, in which character selection happened after mode selection. New to this version of Mario Party is that all the characters comes with special dice, which can either give you coins instead of spaces or gives a different balances of spaces moved. Now character selection is not just merely choosing a favorite character, but it now involves choosing based off their dice. Furthermore, the board game modes can give the player the option to call other characters as allies. When the player calls upon these allies, they get their dice, giving them more dice options. This gives the game a layer of complexity without overdoing it on dice, like Mario Party 4 did. Of course, Super Mario Party's biggest weakness is the small amount of game boards. Both Mario Party and Partner Party have only 4 game boards. In all honesty, though the past few Mario Party games have suffered from this, and only the Nintendo 64 and GameCube Mario Party games escape it. Besides this glaring weakness, I can easily declare Super Mario Party my favorite Mario Party.

Kids have loved playing this game since puchased. Great way to het the neighborhood kids together and off their iPads.

It's been years since I played a Mario Party game, not since I used to own an N64 or GameCube. A childhood friend of mine had bought a new Switch for his daughter's birthday party so he gifted me their old Switch -- which prompted me to take a plunge and re-visit the world of Mario Party (in anticipation for "Mario Party Superstars") by buying this gem. I was slightly concerned about the Switch controllers and how the game would play after so many years away from it...before I knew it, an hour flew by and I was getting ready to start a new game! It is a very fun play, with mini-games galore that both kids and adults can get into seamlessly! I have since picked up the new "Mario Party Superstars", but I keep returning to this game when my friends get to meet up. All that's needed is just two sets of Joy-Con controllers for four people to play (as each Joy-Con can a player), and a good chunk of time to dedicate to play time since it is addicting! Definitely a great buy if you are, or have previously been, a fan of the series!

Great game, I've played this before with group of adult friends. Nice party game. Decided to gift this to a 9yr old with their first Switch and first experience of video games. She was able to catch on, read, follow, and play very easily and quickly. She had adult guidance for setup of Switch and introduction to game, but even without instruction, probably would have picked it up just as quickly. She played with her cousins, 9, 9, 6. The 6 year old had a little difficulty but still had fun and wanted to play and watch. Good kids game all around. Lots of mini games to keep occupied.

A great way to spend an hour or 2 with friends and family. I have been a fan of the Mario Party series since Mario Party 4, this addition to the series certainly doesn't disappoint. The only con... I would like to have seen pro controller support! Overall, a great title and addition to the series. A must buy for any switch owner!

This is the best game ever! You can play it with all ages because it has very easy mini games; however, it also creates a beautifully creative atmosphere that you’ll love.

I grew up with Mario Party 1-5 and was very disappointed with other releases such as Mario Party 10. It seems that this soft reboot of the franchise is what it needed. The original party action with minigames, board game movement and plenty of rage, are back. The minigames are really good this time around. I was a bit worried that they would all be gimmicky motion-based games but the majority don't require movement. I actually really enjoyed the motion and rumble games. The new Partner Party is one of my favorite modes. You and a teammate move freely across the board to get the most stars. The strategy is quite different here and is a great inclusion. There is also a coop/survival mode that is basically the standard mode from Mario Party 10. All of the players must work together to maneuver a raft down some rapids. Along the way you will run into minigame balloons that you will need to beat to increase the amount of time you have to finish the mode. These minigames are completely different from the ones you play in other modes. There is also game room where you can play any minigame and there are also games that can only be played here. For example, one game is a just "Combat" from the Atari 2600 but with Mario characters. The boards are pretty good this time around. However there are only 4 and Nintendo hasn't even hinted at any post-game content. Finally, like many of the recent games, Bowser and his minions are playable and the new primary baddie is Kamek from Yoshi's Island. While I prefer Bowser more, it doesn't take away from the overall game. It's just a little different for someone who mainly played Mario Party 2 on the N64.

I hadn’t played this game before I bought it. A lot of people say Supertars is way better, but I thing they are just clinging onto nostalgia. I have a lot of fun every time I play this one with my family. It would have been nice if it had more boards, but in my opinion it doesn’t affect the fun and value for this game. You have to have joy-cons to play it, though. Any other kind of controller won’t work.

Great games kids love it. Also very family friendly

I've been playing this with my wife for months and it's a lot of fun! Even against 2 other cpu controlled players. The only downside is the limited number of "maps" (4) for the 10th iteration of this game. Also the online modes could have been better.

This is an awesome addition to the Mario Party franchise. Fun for the whole family.
