I grew up watching reruns of the Superman TV show with George Reeves, but I was an adult before discovering the Superman movie serials with Kirk Alyn. These are a lot of fun. The only drawback is that whenever Superman flies, they cut to animation. This was mostly because of studio budget constraints in the 1940's. I consider this part of the serials' charm. These are the first filmed Superman adventures, and I recommend them to any serious Superman fan.

This is Superman when he was a hero and a great role model for the kids of a much more innocent time. Taking a super hero seriously along the lines of serious drama or cinema is silly. This is where Superman is most appropriate as a moral example and popular escape entertainment that doesn't take itself too seriously.

ok so it's not CGI, but when you consider that it's close to 80 years when these were done; they are not too shabby. And it was really cleaver to use animation to create the super effects. Goes great with my Batman serials.

I had always heard about Kirk Alyn as Superman, but hadn't had the opportunity to see these two 15-chapter serials. The budgets weren't generous, and the scripts were on the juvenile side, but Kirk Alyn did very well playing both Clark Kent and the Man of Steel. You can see how he influenced the actors who followed him in the dual role. I enjoyed watching these two serials.

i just happen to come across this in one of those bins that had movies and such for i think 4.99 and up. anyways this dvd set contains 3 superman serials from the days when you would go to the movie theatre each week - late 1940's early 1950's. nice little find on dvd from a bygone era that leaves me a bit of a nostalgic feeling.

If you are into everything Superman...you won't want to go without having all the original theatrical serials starring Kirk Allen as the Man of Steel. In this DVD collection the studio did a masterful job of remastering the films for DVD viewing. At Best Buy's price, it's a really good value.

While obviously dated as its one of the earliest incarnations of Superman, its still fun to watch. Needless to say the special effects here are... well.... barely effects compared to what we are use too but that's part of what makes it so refreshing in a way.

Watch history unfold with the first real life incarnation of the man of stee even tho the villains aren't so great its exciting to see how Hollywood portrayed superman in the 1940s.

and Superman is action packed. The only let down is the cartoon flying. Republic proved it could be done in the Captain Marvel serial, too bad the people behind Columbia's Supes weren't as savvy.

Evil villains! The first(?) transporter! Interesting special effects! A nostalgic, low violence, superhero flick for fans of the early Superman comic books. Suitable for the whole family.

I saw some clips at a museum featuring comic book characters. I have one full Superman series featuring George Reeves. Thought this would be a great addition.

Excellent DVD release by Warner , the picture quality is really good, the packaging was fine. Hope this will get a Blu Ray release one day

Never knew this existed till recently. Worth watching to see how ppl saw superman back then. This format never happens now bit of a bummer really lol

Who need special effects when the past comes to light without. Builds the characters and good ol nostalgia. Good addition to true Superman fans.
