    A tough one for me

Ok how do I go about this. I am a die hard fan of the original movie and I am already biased. Yet, I am also a huge fan of remakes when done in an entertaining way. For reference I enjoyed Friday the 13th (Michael Bay production), Halloween (Rob Zombie), Nightmare on Elm Street, and heck even most of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remakes/add ons (starting with the Michael Bay version are we up to 4 now!!). Are they "great" films, well no. If I want great, I go back to the originals, but man we gotta move forward eventually don't we? Plus horror films are so much fun anyway. A remake to me should hit the famous points, while delivering on sound and vision and topping off with adding just a little bit more. In other words, a nice update to the original idea (though I would prefer an original idea to begin with, but that isn't the trend lately) That is what this film does, well sorta. The sound and vision are excellent as usual, and the acting all around I find to be decent with Dakota having me enamored to the point of dropping my jaw in a Peanut Butter Falcon experience(excellent film by the way). There is a nice amount of nudity and the blood is galore, and there are plenty of jumps and scares. The acting is pretty spot on as well. This all seems great right? Well the problem is like a lot of new movies. The overdone CGI at the expense of great performances. There is a finale free for all that just comes off stupid for me. This is not because it doesn't have a well played scene and the story itself is really a nice take, but I HATE how CGI is used so much that it really overshadows the great core of story telling that needs just a little more room to breathe! I hate how I was truly touched by the nuances and I just felt so distracted by the obvious geek computer fest. It is like graffiti on a great painting. Yeah sure the splashes of paint may have some merit, but compared to the work of art that is underneath? These complaints aside, it is still a film well worth seeking out for fans of the original. Dakota is something to behold and she rules in a way that no one in the original can try to match (yes I know, this is a bold statement). Watch this movie for what it is. A really good remake, but as a film on its own, it is average. For a horror freak that likes remakes, well again I am pretty liberal with these stars. I choose to see films for what they try to be, and not for what I want them to be. The cluster of CGI crap that is ruining films because they don't use it as a tool, but more as a crutch, well that is another story...

I have never seen the original, and after watching a lot of other italian horror movies from that era I don't really care to. But I loved this movie. Tilda Swinton is amazing in this film. The film is beautifully shot. And I love the score. The film is long at 2 hours and 30 minutes but it didn't feel long while I was watching it. Highly recommend to people who like slow burn horror like Hereditary.

Sure, it's not the original, but that's the idea! More a re-imagining than a remake, this beautifully shot adaptation of Dario's screenplay is elegant and creepy as ever. Even appealing to non-horror fans. I also rather enjoyed the explicit political backdrop. Recommended!

The original Suspiria is a must see for any horror fan. This new version is a worthy remake, but it isn't quite the same. There are some fantastic scenes and suspense, a great soundtrack, and enough change to make this a definite watch if you liked the original.

A worthy remake that’s different and very well done. It is definitely in the list of best remakes. It is a tribute if anything to Dario’s work and story he wrote with Nicolodi. Worth the purchase and the price for a great movie. A good witch movie with beautiful choreography. Tilda is an absolute star.

This is not your typical horror movie. A dance school run by witches who are having an internal power struggle are enthralled with a new student who shows quite promise... a slow burn for sure but great atmosphere. Looks great and the acting is top notch.

5 stars across the board for the movie and the BR, doesnt matter. Yes, I'm a big fan of the original and this one did not dissapoint. Guadagnino is a big Argento fan and it shows. It's a remake done well and as they should be: not a frame-by-frame copy, otherwise, what's the point? The audio and video quality is very good and the extras listed are interesting.

It's long It's weird It's visually arresting A few choices were strange and maybe unnecessary (Tilda Swinton in multiple roles!) But, boy, this movie really stuck with me afterwards and for that reason alone it's worth a watch.

Like a lot of other movies out there that try and reboot or remake a classic film, they tend to always be either just alright or downright poopie. The original Suspiria is great. It's not a masterpiece, but the visuals, colors, blood and suspense makes it a movie worth watching at least once. This updated version, however, looks ok, but lacks a lot of that suspense and feeling that I experienced when watching the original. I understand that this could have been the directors intent to make it a film that has certain qualities that make it its own, but after 2 hrs this version doesn't do anything special to make me feel as though it warranted a remake.

This is not a remake. If you like Aronovsky’s Mother!, you will probably like this. Also, it’s better on the second viewing. I suggest not reading any spoilers before watching. I love when the witches laugh, it is just so funny to me.

A darkness swirls at the center of a world-renowned dance company, one that will engulf the artistic director, an ambitious young dancer, and a grieving psychotherapist. Some will succumb to the nightmare. Others will finally wake up. Must watch! Not for everyone. Thom Yorke gives a great score and Dakota Johnson was a great leading lady.

This remake has some really excellent performances but none of the uneasy atmosphere of the original. Tilda Swinton is great in multiple rolls. I’m glad I saw this, but I’ll stick with the original.

The movie itself is good. Tells a more coherent story than the original. The Blu-Ray could have benefited from more behind the scenes content or a commentary. Movie - 8 out of 10; Blu-Ray - 4 out of 10.

Dario Argentos classic horror film is reimagined with an expanded plot and length. Tilda Swinton and Dakota Johnson are terrific as are the dancing sequences. Not quite successful but still interesting.

Really good remake of an all time horror classic. The original is still better, but was still very impressed. Beautifully shot with all the twisted imagery, just lacking the color pallet from the original. Thom Yorke as usual delivers a really good soundscape that adds a lot to the overall mood of the film.

Great film. Very visually stunning and great acting. It does lose a bit of focus as the movie drags on, unlike the original film, but it still manages to keep you invested in the film.

Very strange film that serves as a companion piece to the original 1977 film. Not for everybody, but those who appreciate something daring and difference will find a lot to admire.

The original is one of my favorite horror films of all time, and I was not disappointed in this. Not without its flaws, but worthwhile, especially in terms of the film-making itself. A radically different beast, in tone and atmosphere, while retaining the same basic narrative.

I am a huge fan of the original and was hesitant to give the remake a chance. Happy to report that, the 2018 version stands on its own as a stylized and beautifully shot movie.
