Simple yet great fitness watch
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I used to wear the Microsoft Band 2 for my fitness as well as heart rate monitoring. Since they don't sell it anymore, I was looking for one where it doesn't depend on the smartphone, like the Apple watch or the Samsung gear. I wanted something that has GPS, and does the everyday fitness tracking like the steps, sleep, HR, etc. This one is extremely comfortable and light weight. Once you know the functionality of the buttons, it becomes very easy to use this. It works with any phone by connecting via Bluetooth to get call and text notification. The GPS tracking and maps display on the watch is very intuitive. You can get a day or two of the battery life, depending on your usage. It is also water resistant. The heart rate sensor is pretty accurate. There is an app you can download so the data from the watch is synced. The watch comes with lot of sport modes that is preinstalled and can be chosen for a particular workout. Overall, this is a great sports fitness watch for anyone who isn't looking for a smartwatch and wants a personal sports watch.

Comfortable and versatile athletic watch
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my first "smart" watch so I wasn't sure what to expect - I was pleasantly surprised with the watch. The watch band is comfortable and the face is easy to read and work with. There are a huge number of functions available for tracking everything from your sleep to nearly any exercise that you can think of. The battery life so far has been quite good and I have not had to recharge after 10 days (still at 40%). Connecting to my phone was simple and direct, the software update and app install was also quite simple. I would say that visiting the SUUNTO website and reviewing the help files is a must. Like I said, there are a ton of functions you can use, which is great, but you navigate using only 5 buttons and the road to where you want to be is sometimes winding. All said, I'd buy it again.

Extremely Accurate GPS and Live Route Runner Persp
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First things first the Spartan Suunto GPS trainer looks very stealthy and sleek in all black. The watch size is pretty big so you can see a lot of the stats on the face when you're doing an activity and the band is stretchy to fit a wide variety of wrists. There are 5 buttons on the watch and they are very simple to learn as to which command they'll do when you press one of them. Getting into the actual features of the watch everything seems to run very smoothly. I've taken the watch on numerous runs from a 10 mi steady run to a 5 mi sprint interval run and the GPS stayed steady throughout along with real time pace which is my favorite feature. A lot of smartphone running apps will fluctuate your pace greatly so you never really know what it really is but this watch is very good at that. The on wrist heart rate monitor is nothing special but it works just fine and it's fairly accurate. I still use a chest strap on my runs but you can do without one if you buy this watch. You can also set up your own intervals on the watch if you want to be alerted when to start and stop an interval and you can choose to set up automatic laps or manual laps by pressing one of the buttons on the watch. This watch is great for a wide variety of sports and it's advertised as having 80 sports modes pre-installed to the watch with running, swimming, and cycling as the main focus so if you do at least one of those activities then this watch should be great for you. The Movescount app is needed to pair with your watch if you want to view your stats on a smartphone but you can also connect it via computer. The app is just slightly different from other fitness apps in the sense that it is only used to track your stats and help you train for your certain event so it'll tell you your heart rate zones and your recovery time until your back in prime condition to continue. Through the app you can also adjust notification settings to be alerted of text messages or third party messaging apps as well as phone calls and emails. Overall, I am really enjoying the watch. I wish it would have a stride and cadence sensor and you were able to pair the runs with other popular running apps but I can do without it and be content to the point where I feel like I'm getting my optimal training. Unfortunately I am not a swimmer or cyclists so I cannot say how the watch works in those regards but as a runner it is one of the best.

Really awesome watch
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Suunto - Spartan Trainer GPS Watch has been my first experience with any sort of GPS / training / smart watch and I must say I am very impressed. With respect to the GPS aspect of this watch, I am really looking forward to using the trackback feature the next time I go camping and hiking out in Joshua Tree. It will be nice to just go out and explore while knowing I have a record to assist me in getting back to the main trails. The heart-rate monitor is a bit spotty but works well enough for me as someone who isn’t all that obsessed with tracking such a thing. The various training modes and customization options available on the Suunto website are pretty cool and make it so you can track all sorts of different activities. The smart-watch features likely pale in comparison to what you can get from other watches which are dedicated more to smart-watch features but I am pleased with what this watch can do. I set it up so it notifies me when I receive emails to my focused inbox in outlook which is nice because I don’t need notifications for all of the other random emails I get which go to my other inbox. I’m not sure if other email clients have a similar feature but this works great with outlook. The watch also notifies me of incoming phone calls and text messages. I haven’t figured out how to display the actual text messages instead of just the brief notification that shows up (if it’s even possible) but it’s not really that big of a deal because I would need to use my phone to reply anyways. Overall, I am very pleased with this watch and I highly recommend it!

I love this watch
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a really good running and fitness watch for the price. I chose it mainly because blog reviews suggested it has excellent GPS accuracy for the price. I use it a lot for trail running and I've found that to be true-- it provides accurate feedback on how far you've run and your pace in real time. It also looks good for every day use and is not excessively bulky. It works well enough as a daily fitness tracker (step counter) too. The heart rate monitor is not as accurate as a chest strap, but that's true on any watch. In my experience the heart rate monitoring accuracy can vary a lot depending on where you wear it on the wrist. After some trial-and-error, I've found that wearing it higher up on the wrist (a few inches up from the hand) and keeping it tight provides much more plausible heart rate readings. I like the vast array of different sports options. Unlike some other reviewers, I have not had any problems at all with connecting the watch to the app on my smartphone via Bluetooth, and I have an old cheap Moto Android phone -- perhaps they've fixed the firmware since the other reviewers' complaints? The app is a little slow to sync but works fine. I also like both the smartphone app and the PC app, and they sync up to Strava well. Another nice feature is that you can can set it so that alerts just give you haptic feedback (vibration). It would be nice if it gave you that choice with the alarm too. The interval training feature, which I use a lot, works well as long as all the intervals and rest periods are identical in duration or length, since that is the only option. If you choose the right settings, it both vibrates and gives you an audible alarm when each interval is done and when the next interval is due to begin. My biggest complaint about the watch is that you have to go through too many different screens to make the interval function work. So for example, there is a sport mode called "interval running," but the "interval" feature is turned off by default in that sport mode, so even if you choose "interval running," you still have to go through a bunch of additional screens to turn on the interval feature every time you use it. In addition, even if you turn the interval option on, once you press "start" for the particular exercise (i.e, the "Move" in Suunto lingo), you then have to press the middle right button several times to go across a bunch of screens until you get to the one that allows you to start the interval timer, which is not synced to the timer for the exercise. I'm hoping that Suunto will fix their firmware to make the interval option a little more user-friendly -- it seems like they're constantly working on the firmware. Aside from that bit of inconvenience, this is a great watch for the price, and if you like running and doing a variety of other fitness activities it's a good choice.

Heart Pumping; Track it
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Given the time of year, I haven't been able to check out all the awesome features this wearable has. (too cold to really go distance outside right now). It is easy to wear, and based on comparison with other devices... it measures out my heart rate. You can setup interval settings, which has been EXTREMLY beneficial for indoor training. (Great on the indoor bike). For a health/wearable; it feels more secure then my Gen 1 Apple watch, and not as top heavy (more balanced). For those planning to wear this all day: It will track your daily HR, your steps, and estimate your calorie burn... It also has communication sync with your watch, that is adequate... (Incoming Call, Text, and Schedule notifications) I am EAGER for the weather to turn consistently, so I can check out the other features: GPS, POI Notification (great for bike trail layouts), and SWIMMING usage...

AMAZING Multi-Sport Watch
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Suunto finally has the watch I've been waiting for! Other brands aren't competing with the Spartan Trainer for such a great price and for all the functionality this watch offers. I demo'd the watch at an XTERRA race and fell in love instantly. Extremely light-weight on the wrist, it felt like I wasn't wearing anything at all. Ever since I've purchased I've done EVERYTHING with this watch. Swimming, Biking, Trail-Running, even stand-up paddle boarding! This watch has it all. The optical wrist HR is as accurate as I've ever experienced on a GPS watch. If you're training for ANY sport at all, this watch should be your #1 training partner!
