Genre: Fantasy, Action Length: 100 minutes WIth the events of Sword Art Online, SAO, and Alfheim behind them, Kirito and the others seek to continue their lives in the real world. However, the past is never far behind as people are still trying to unravel the mysteries behind the original incident which cost several thousand lives as well as the follow-up with Nobuyuki/Oberon in which 250 people were still trapped inside the virtual reality world. Kirito, Asuna, Sugu, Silica, and Lisbeth are all attending classes meant to help them reintegrate into society since they've been trapped for years in a life and death struggle. Sword Art Online Ex is a follow-up to the hit anime series and is really a recap of all the episodes. Kirito gets to sit in an office for 8 hours recounting all the events and ordeals that he went through in Aincrad and ALfheim. Meanwhile, the girls have slid out of their clothing and equipped bathing suits to enjoy some fun in the pool! As you might guess, there's a lot of fanservice in this one. I'm never against fanservice, but I think I'd rather have more action in this one. I was really disappointed when they showed Nobuyuki/Oberon having his way with Asuna but they wouldn't show Kirito chopping him up and showing his sword through his face. Late spoiler alert there! However, if you're purchasing or watching this, you should have gone through the entire series already. Extra Edition caps off with about 20 minutes of new footage! I won't spoil any of this as it's something you might not have seen before. The basics of it is that Yui wants to see something huge and Kirito happens to remember hearing about a quest where there's a gigantic whale out in the ocean. After some fun on the beach, the gang heads into the ocean depths to start this legendary quest! Probably should have put this first, but I wanted to recap it first: This is purely in Japanese with no English subtitles. If you really must know what they're saying, then I recommend watching this on Daisuke.net or Crunchyroll. I saw it back when it debuted at Christmas time and can pick out words here and there so it wasn't a big deal not understanding everything as I had a good idea of what was happening. The main disc includes a 15 minute long extra going a few things from the movie as well as having Kirito getting beat up by Asuna and sugu...he's gonna have a hard life ahead of him! It also has a 30 second trailer for SAO II which comes out this summer. The 2nd disc has 2 songs on it. It wasn't supported by my PS4, but my computer had no issues with it. Lastly, there's a light novel included with it, but it's entirely in kanji which I can't read yet ;_; Whether this release is worth the money is up to each individual. I don't mind spending the money on it a it's a limited release and Best Buy is the only real retailer carrying it in North America. I could import it from Japan, but the shipping costs outweigh any savings I might be able to get *not going to wait 4-8 weeks for cheap shipping*. The fact that it's already on backorder on release day means that plenty of people want this one! Enjoy!
