Didn’t know anything about this film when I bought it. I’m a fan of the genre, and I wasn’t disappointed. This is not your average story, and it pulls you in. Keep in mind this is a drama with well drawn characters. If you’re looking for wall to wall action then you may not like it. The action doesn’t start until the last twenty minutes. What a great twenty minutes it is though. The Blu-ray looks amazing, with great clarity. No extras to speak of, but not a big deal. Own it!

This was not your typical Japanese Samarai movie. There was very little action. It was not a total washout. It did show a side of Japanese culture for the time period.

A small understanding of Japanese culture in feudal times is necessary to realize the depth and width of things that happen. The first scene of a Kabuki masked dance puts one at ease and that is all I am going to reveal about the scenes in the film. Buy it.
