I was going off to graduate school and I knew I will be lugging my laptop around with me to the libraries, classrooms, various labs, and finally to my thesis lab. I I needed a way to secure my laptop, so I went to Best Buy, found the cheapest cable lock on sale that week and picked up this product. Four years and two laptops later, I am still using this cable lock. I am paranoid about leaving my laptop at work/lab overnight so I bring it home and back to work with me everyday, yes, that means even on most weekends and holidays because... well, I'm a grad student. So I have been attaching and detaching this cable almost everyday for four years and it has not failed me. I liked that the cable is long because I am also securing an iMac G5 (which has that big hole in the back stand) as well as my laptop. After 4 years the lock casing is showing signs of wear as the casing is coming slightly loose. If it does break, I will likely go back to Best Buy and get the cheapest cable lock on sale that week -- I have no reason to prefer this brand over others. I only wish these cable locks did not cost so much, but at ~$40 it is a good price for piece of mind.

Bought 2 for my kids going to school. Easy to set up and use. I had Kensington locks and returned them. The Targus are much easier to handle and secure to the laptop. I know it's no big deal to rip the lock out of the laptop case, but it's a good way to prevent someone looking for an easy opportunity to steal.

This is great at college, no one will be able to steal your laptop with the lock once it is attached to your desk. It can be used anywhere but remember to try it out before you put it on your computer. Otherwise it will be stuck and wont be able to get it off.

Got them for $14.99 and it dose what I aimed for. just wait for the next sale because it may not worth $40. I had no problem using the cable after 1 month of use. however, the cable is thin so do not get this cable for Apple computers and Sony Vaio.

I bought this cable lock for college because I knew that going off to a larger school, there might be a chance that someone may steal my lap top. Whenever I am not at my computer, I just plug in the lock and it's as easy as plug in, change the numbers around, and leave it be! I know that it is safe. Specially since I can hook it around the table leg that, by the way, is bolted to the floor. There is no way my lap top is getting stolen! I highly recommend this for any college student, or even anyone who uses hotels or is out of the comfort of their home on a normal basis.

It was easy to set it up and start using it. It looks secure and not so easy to break.

Inherent in all combination locks is the ability to hack the setting, particularly when the user forgets to rotate the numbers on every one. With four sets of 0-9, there would be 9,999 combos that might be the correct setting. Hopefully, the owner would have set the combo to a complex setting, avoiding silly combos like "1111" or "1234". Any combo less than 2111 is not recommended (my opinion) and avoid any combo that has all digits the same like "5555". Hacker knowledgeable thieves would go for easiest combos first, since it's human nature to set the combo to easy settings.

I bought this for my daughters computer. She lives in a dorm and we didn't want someone to come into her room and remove it. Even if it was a prank. We secured in though her heating and cooling vent behind her desk. The cable is long enough to reach anywhere on her desk or bed. I was very pleased with it. Make sure your computer has a place for the cable to go into before buying.

We bought this for our son so he could secure his laptop in his dorm room. From all reports from him, it works just fine. It was long enough to secure the laptop to his very heavy dorm desk. It works in the universal slot to secure his laptop. It isn't too big or bulky, so that is a bit of a bonus. Finally, it was not too expensive.

I used this locking cable for my HP Pavillion Laptop when I went to do genealogy Research at the Albany, NY Library and Archives. It worked great keeping my laptop secure.

I've been using this for a month or so, very easy to set up, I like the little fillers you can add to the end so it doesnt sit loose while securing your laptop, and not bad to look at either

the instructions are not good. I had to take it to the BestBuy Geek Squad and they had a hard time. When it was finally figured out what needed to be pushed in and how much force, it became easy. If you buy it at a store, have someone demo it to you since it isn't obvious. They should have better instructions or a youtube instructions.

It is easy to install and to remove. It has good portability. I wish it had a thicker cable. Neat overall. Aloha!

Easiest lock to set up, just the simple turn of a flathead screwdriver and reseting the combo is a breeze.

This is a great lock/cable. It has served me well for the year that I've owned it. I do wish that it was just a bit longer, but my needs for it are unique. This would be perfect for most anyone else as it is.

This is a good deterrent. I like that you can choose your own combination and not get stuck with something that is difficult to remember.

The code I set worked when I was testing the lock. Once I checked in to the hotel and secured my laptop it stopped working. Luckily what I attached the cable to wasn't very secure. I ended up using an air powered cut off wheel to remove the lock from my MacBook. Targus support recommends that you use a hacksaw. You'll want to make sure any metal bits stay out of your machine. Before performing this surgery I you should cover any ports and vents with masking tape and wrap your laptop it in a garbage bag.

The product works like a charm, very soild and I feel safe having it on the computer. But setup is a little confusing, and the cord is to long.
