Easy to break (and yes it's this lock model). 4 numbers 1 at base 4 being farthest. Hold button and turn dial 3 and 4, if 3 has no friction, turn 4 one notch and repeat until dial 3 turns like 4. Then do the same with the second and third dials, then the first and second. Lock broken in 2 minutes or less. Or just grab and snap it perpendicular to the laptop and it'll pop right out with almost now sound. I shimmied it out in 5 seconds. This Defcon CL is as effective as sticking a sign on your laptop reading "Don't steal me!" Bought it at Best Buy and probably won't be able to get my money back tomorrow. I was in a pinch and didn't do my homework, whoops.

I bought this for my son when he went to college. So far, he has not had any problems with it. Was worth the price.

I bought this lock to provide some security for my laptop at my work desk. After a few months of use, the lock reset itself and stuck in my laptop. A pair of cheap wire cutters was able to cut the cable from my desk with one snap, so I was able to at least take my laptop home (so much for protecting it from theives). I contacted Targus about the product and they are aware of the problem with the lock and have an official form of how to get your lock off which includes the suggestions of systematically putting in combinations (up to 10000 advertised!) or using a hacksaw to just cut it off of the laptop. I would never buy a lock that can reset its own code and I am highly upset they can sell this product knowing that this happens (and is not that uncommon). Plus, its security is also compromised by the easily cut cable. Beware.

I wish I'd read the reviews before purchasing. We had a laptop stolen from our office, so I rushed out and bought 20 of these. 6 of the 20 reset the combination on their own. They have white plastic and are not easily hackable like the older versions. Instead, I have to saw the locks off. I am infuriated! This is apparently a common problem with these locks.

This is just your standard cable and combination lock. It works like it is supposed to work.

No problems. Does what it's supposed to do. Good enough to keep honest folk honest.

The notebook lock easily fits into the lock slot that is designated on pretty much every laptop and other computer peripherals as well. However, the cable does not coil very well and can end up taking up alot of space in a notebook carrying case.

I have not yet experienced the auto-reset problem some reviewers had. It's nice not having to remember to bring a key.

Good value and combination lock vs. the key. No more worries of keeping up with a key.

I bought this and it worked fine for the first 3 weeks or so. Then the lock-case started to come loose, which has now resulted in a 3/8" to 1/2" wobble of the lock-case. This is just the case part, as there is very little room left between the self-adhesive washer and the computer case.

I am going to a seminar and it's not that I don't trust the hotel staff or my fellow seminar goers, but thought someone might like my new macBook more than me and help themselves to it. I bought this lock, tested the new combination a dozen times, put it in and out another dozen times, then the last time it wouldn't come off, zip, zero, goose egg. Had to take the computer apart, again a NEW macbook, what a pain in the @%@$. Took it back and wouldn't use another one of these if they paid me.

Do not get this lock...there are other brands that work much better. This one pretty much acts like a visual deterance to would be thieves, sort of like those steering wheel locks. You can easily cut the cable and eventually you can't unlock it which would be good if you didn't use your laptop for what its meant for...portability. Pass on it.

Daughter used at college daily for around six months. Went to unlock one day and would not unlock.Unit no longer recognized combination. I had to cut cable WITH LITTLE TROUBLE using pliers.Took home and tried to unlock with no luck. After researching and testing methods I had to hack saw the unit from the lap top.

I opened the casing to discover that the lock smells horrible - gives off a distinct skunk-like odor that won't dissipate. Never encountered this problem before, but it is simply disgusting.
