Taxi Driver is not an easy film to watch, it's both gritty and confronting at times, and the depiction of New York as an "open sewer" is pretty depressing. That said it is an important film in the history of cinema, not the least because it serves as an interesting glimpse of society in the time in which in was made. De Niro's performance is a standout, but all the actors play their parts extremely well. It's hard to come away unaffected by Taxi Driver, and to me that's the mark of a great film. The Blu-ray edition looks great considering the age of this film, though it's obviously not as sharp as recent releases. .

An excellent Blu-ray in a nice Steelbook package

I already owned Taxi Driver on Blu-ray before purchasing this new package. It features one of the all-time best-looking Blu-ray restorations, and has a wonderful selection of extras, including a commentary by Martin Scorsese recorded for The Criterion Collection back in the laserdisc era. I don't normally like Steelbooks, but I wasn't a huge fan of the standard packaging for Taxi Driver, and the Pop Art line has some of the best exclusive artwork I've seen, with only a couple that I'm not interested in. An easy purchase.

Im happy with the release and the price but i do wish they transfered all the extras to its bonus disc. There's an extra disc with just a few bonus features included while the disc with the movie has the majority of bonus features. It wouldve been better to have the movie alone on one disc to allow a higher bitrate such as sony's "mastered in 4k" series which is out of print. And then consolidate the all of the extras on the second disc. But with that said there are no compression artifacts and its nice seeing the whole cast doing a q&a in the special features

This is a terrific, astounding film experience about one man's decent into madness
Deniro plays taxi driver, Travis Bickle
Bickle keeps late nights, driving his cab all over Manhattan, never getting any real sleep
The rot, decay and crime of the city also push Travis to his ultimate breaking point
Young Jodie Foster plays Iris, a teenage hooker who Travis wants to help
Harvey Keitel is equally great as Iris's slimy pimp, Sport

You simply can’t go wrong with this print of taxi driver. I believe it is the same Blu-ray print the used in a previous set but there are a couple of extras for this new anniversary edition including a previously missing commentary track that with poured it over for me earlier criterion addition – all in all this is a fantastic version of the movie if you haven’t seen in a while with tons and tons of extras fantastic value to I bought it for six dollars at a Best Buy store

Outstanding Psychological Movie

From an excellent Director to excellent actors, Taxi Driver is an outstanding movie that focuses upon the psychological perspective and breakdown of a Vietnam War vet who, through his own reasons, whether sane or not, plans and executes various plans he feels are right and just. The movie presents very interesting societal versus individual moral issues, and it's a bonus to see tremendous acting from legends in the industry when they were quite young.

Robert DeNiro has been a perplexing study as an "actor". He is at his finest when playing himself. And boy, does he play himself as Travis Bickel an ill-mannered, un-educated, un-sophisticated, un-classy guy in Martin Scorcese's "Taxi Driver". His talent dims when taking on well-mannered, educated, sophisticated, classy character roles as he comes across as, well....Robert DeNiro playing Robert DeNiro as a well-mannered, educated, sophisticated, classy character. He comes closest to being an "actor" in his role as the intern in "The Intern". A role in which he looks like he is "acting" because he only appears to be a well-mannered, educated, sophisticated, classy guy....almost! His best was and still is "Taxi Driver" where DeNiro plays DeNiro, unchanged by.... "acting" a role.

Taxi Driver starring Robert Deniro is one of his early films and some say its one of the greatest movies of our time. Deniro stars as the films protagonist a young war veteran thats driving a Taxi throughout New York City. Enough cant be said about this movie it truly stands the time of one of the most amazing pieces of footage ever shot. The timeless scenes of old New York City is breathtaking and this remastered blueray version will send chills up the viewers spines

Taxi Driver is a deeply disturbing must watch classic of the 70's. It tells a dark tale of a New York cabbie, a man damaged by war and loneliness who is in need of some serious TLC. But the cruel and sleazy environment he roams, and the aimless job he works drives him to become a product of his environment in the most terrifying way imaginable. Watching Taxi Driver is a rite of passage all of those who wish to be movie fans must take.

An early Scorsese movie, if you like the director then you'll love the film. Also, being one of DeNiro's first roles you can tell he's going to continue to be a flare throughout films to come. The case is a bit bigger than normal other "special" editions but it's about the same size as the Blade Runner special edition with the unicorn on the cover. The set photos inside are incredible and if you are a movie buff I highly recommend you buy this ASAP.

A Great Transfer of a Great Movie

I'll admit that it took some time for me to appreciate this movie. But as the months have passed, it has stuck with me. The HD transfer is terrific, as it's a Sony blu-ray and they are typically some of the best on the market. There's some terrific definition and depth for a 40 year old movie, but it still keeps the grime and grit that's necessary for a film about 70's New York City.

I own several editions of this film on Blu-Ray. I bought this edition as well because it comes with a digital copy and all-new interviews of the cast and director. How time flies! This film is over 40 years old and still my favorite Scorsese and De Niro collaboration! Hope they make another film together. It's one film that deserves to be in every movie collection Yes, I'm talking to you!
