It's now 4 years later and this TV is just as amazing at it was in 2020 when I got it on sale cause it was an "Open Box" deal. I love this so much I came here today to look for some deals on another TCL TV for a different room. So 10/10, and would and/or will buy again!

My greatest lifetime passion is that of music & movies, and for more than a decade now I've owned top of the line audiophile equipment, including the flagship Pioneer Elite SC-09TX AVR as well as everything else being Elite equipment. However, I do not claim to be a true audiophile, but just wanting the best that I could afford to submerse myself in excellence to enjoy what I love so much! That being said, I purchased this TCL UHD 4K QLED TV to replace my 55" Samsung plasma display that final bit the dust over a year ago. During that time, I've researched and have intended to purchase strictly another Samsung TV, for I'm a big fan of Samsung as well. However, doing my homework and research during the past year, it was recently I began to notice the glowing reviews for the new TCL Series 5 & 6 4K TV's that have hit the market, so I did indeed take notice. Now being retired on a single SS income, I can no longer afford the luxury that I have in the past. Having come into suddenly a small fortune (for me, anyway!), I decided it was time to replace my home theater television. Based on what I'd learned previously in my research, I made a rather hasty decision one morning right at a month ago and ended up purchasing the TCL 55S535. For the money it seemed to be the best bargain at the time and by days end I had made the 150 mile trip to Best Buy and had my first ever 4K TV sitting in my living room. Let it be said I am brand new to 4K resolution, and I had so much to learn. I also have to admit as a newbie to this newest technological advancement I hadn't a clue what I was doing, but I also consider myself a semi-expert in home theater and after completely rearranging the furniture to accommodate said TV it was finally up and running! I won't go into all that I did and had to learn before I felt comfortable enough to know what was right and what wasn't, but after nearly a month of ownership now I can say I am indeed happy with my purchase. I do have to admit it wasn't until after my purchase that I learned TCL is still considered a "budget" TV, and that made me cringe a bit, yet it seems that only time will tell if the quality is there for longevity as well as satisfaction for this television. However, set-up was easy enough, though I cursed the menu system trying to find all of the settings, and I still find a lot to be desired with the entire menu system. I could do without the Roku OS completely, but so it goes. My only serious complaint is the horrible remote, touted as being simple and user-friendly, but I found it to be just the opposite. Half the remote is dedicated with four big buttons for streaming services, of which not a single one I will ever use. It's a very stylish and great looking TV, and the picture itself seems pretty good so far, but admittedly I've yet to have a true 4K image displayed to comment on. In the end, I am indeed very pleased so far! For the money spent and the resulting outcome of hi-def now again available in my home theater, I'm a happy camper. If this TCL 4K will last for many years to come, I will indeed consider it a very good and worthwhile investment. Doing the extensive and thorough set-up* of adjusting color/brightness/contrast/tint/backlight, etc. I must admit I was very impressed with the resulting image and just how far the technology has advanced. For the money I can say so far that I am indeed quite pleased with this TCL 55" QLED 4K HDR display unit. A lot of features for the buck, with a great display image for sure, and as previously mentioned, if this TV will last I can honestly say it is worthwhile and highly recommended for the budget minded. Note: * - "Video Essentials" used for calibration of this TV. I've read where TCL TV's out of the box are poorly set-up regarding display image, and the calibration performed made a great difference.

I needed to purchase a second 4K UHD HDR smart tv. I was less than satisfied with my first one, an LG. After months of reading reviews, it became clear that the TCL 5 Series (2020 model year only) was very highly rated, and certainly affordable. It is an excellent entry level Smart TV. It has a QLED display, and at the time of purchase, was the only affordable one on the market. It also out performed the TCL 6 Series of 2020! It is a ROKU TV, making it far superior to the Web OS on my LG. Navigating channels is a breeze in comparison. If I had to be very picky, and as the expert review sites point out, the best viewing angle is straight ahead. Viewing from a "non-centered" perspective yields a darker view. Also, when viewing HDR content, it often appears too dark. I also use this TV as a monitor for my PC, and here is outperforms my LG. I am very satisfied with this Smart TV, and considering its very affordable price point, you can't go wrong.

This is the second TCL tv I have bought. The last one is almost 5 years old and still working fine with good quality visuals ( 5 series 4k led). This one is same except it is qled. The picture is even better with hdr. I can’t recommend this enough for gaming. Hardly any lag although it doesn’t have 120 hz refresh. You would have to get a 6 series for that but i game on ps5 at 4k so 60 hz is the norm at that resolution. I expect most to all ps5 games will only be able to get 4k with ray tracing at 60 frames per second. Only upgrade if you using a desktop pc with powerful graphics and processor. TCL has become my tv brand. Affordable with good quality visuals and easy to use roku os. I heard the google version is glitchy so both of our tvs are roku. Highly recommend.

I am a TV aficionado and have been reading about TCLs and their rave reviews for years, now. Finally jumped in and bought our own: the 2020 5-series. I read in more than one place that, although it slots below the 2020 6 series, that it's almost as good and definitely as good as the 2019 6 series, but for a lot cheaper a price. Well, after having it for about a week, now, I must say that I am super impressed with its performance and picture, especially for the price! The ease of setting up this TV cannot be overstated, either. It's SO simple! Also, the TV looks sleek and more expensive than what it is. The sounds isn't even terrible, either. The only negative would be the cheap feeling remote. And, the side viewing angles aren't the best (they're not horrible - I've seen/experienced much worse - but coming from plasmas and OLEDs, there's just no comparison). But, that's it. For the price, though, I can definitely get over that.

Wow, this really is the best budget, bang for your buck, TV available. It makes me forget that I wanted a larger size next series set from TCL, but enjoy that I was able to save big bucks spending less than half a grand and leaving plenty of money on the table to buy several other Christmas Gifts. Just imagine when you can still get Rokus, bluetooth or smart speakers, a soundbar, games and other items with the same money of a more expensive set and then it all makes sense. However, getting back to image quality, this is great! Of course, this was also my chosen TV to get into the 4K universe. I left a Sony 1080 set from several years ago (2014?) and I believe that helps to make an even greater impression. Every color and texture just pops out, you can manage picture settings to your liking, I followed somebody's (rtings.com?) recommendations and adjusted accordingly, but even without that step, it impressed me. Up to that point, I only experienced that kind of quality on small devices (iPad, iPhone) and this beats it. I think the first thing I tried was Disney+ (Dolby Vision HDR Wow!) and eventually Netfix, Amazon Prime, YouTube (HDR+ content, wow!) and Apple TV+ among others. Then I had to connect my devices. That was effortless for the bluray player and the PS3. It was a "tougher" task for a Nintendo Wii since I had lost the component video input. It took getting a Wii to HDMI dongle (cheap!) and messing manually with this TV's picture setting for that input. I tried but failed to hook up my laptop's HDMI output to this TV and use it as a monitor. I saw an image, but audio and video noise were just too much. I need to get back to that... but... I also tried reading mkv files from ripped discs. This TV is able to using Roku Media Player (downloadable app in Roku TV environment) so I have not tried again with the laptop hookup but I need to to. I believe it will work but I need more time and wish I had more inputs or a great AV receiver! This TV was also my 1st Roku TV or device at home. After having some time to play with it, I'm impressed at its simplicity while handling everything: settings, inputs (all usual TV related things) to all internet, streaming, app related things. There are some harsh critics of Roku on the internet, and I do not know the competition, but for me, it is intuitive to work. I also wanted to mention sound. I bought this TV with a TCL soundbar. Detailed review of that later, but all you need to know is that I decided to return he soundbar and took some weeks for a replacement soundbar to arrive. During that time, I certainly enjoyed the regular TV sound, and confirmed that I was right in returning that particular soundbar. A soundbar should compare much more favorable to the stock TV speakers, specially for dialog clarity! And if it matters to you, wow, every body that has seen this TV has congratulated me in my gift or investment!

We decided on the TCL name brand after a couple of months of research with YouTube videos. Our primary requirements were a 55” 4K TV with good picture, competitive price, and Roku operating system, since we had used a Roku streaming device for the past 10 years. We decided on the newly released TCL 55S535 at Best Buy, despite the store still having no current model on display. Unpacking and setting up the TV is much more difficult than previous TVs, due to the design of the narrow, thin bezel. Great care is required to avoid cracking the screen, meaning you can’t grip the top or sides of the TV at all. That really complicates picking the TV up or moving it. We have been well pleased with the picture quality and surprised that the audio from TV speakers alone is much better than expected. Since we already have a home theater system, we use it while watching all streaming movies, which greatly enhances the watching experience, using TV speakers alone for TV news reports. We definitely recommend the Roku operating system. The greatest con of the TV so far is the annoying remote, which is smaller and flimsier than the older Roku player remote we had been using before. Navigation within the system is much more inconvenient than the older Roku remote. Our long range satisfaction will be determined by the longevity of the set. I have far less confidence in the longevity of all brands of the new TVs, due to all of the more sophisticated design features, and the goal of competitive pricing. I normally never buy an extended warranty on any product, but went with the 5 yr warranty for my peace of mind. Overall, at this point, we are happy with our purchase and would recommend this TV.

Well worth the $480, even if it wasn’t on sale. The base stand is wider than I expected so it’s just barely hanging on my desk. Wish it was more narrow. The reason why I bought this TV was because of the deep blacks while watching dark scenes. It’s perfect for the amount of money. The colors are vibrant and I’ve read that it wasn’t bright enough but I disagree. I’m not trying to get a headache in a darkroom. The OS is kind of slow and clunky but I’ll use my PS5 from now on.

I am VERY happy with this tv overall, fantastic color, contrast, and most importantly price. The only major issue I've found is that there is a horrible choppiness with video playback through the built in roku streaming. I connected my home theatre pc and same thing, Unwatchable, played with settings on the tv to no avail. When I changed the video out settings on my pc to force 60hz output it fixed everything. So in short as long as you feed this tv a 60Hz signal (most modern consoles will be perfect for this) you're getting an $800 experience for almost half the price. Pros: Build quality and finish Beautiful color Local dimming is fantastic Incredible price Cons: Glossy screen and relatively low brightness means that you'll need to max brightness and close blinds if your space has lots of natural light Soap opera effect Unwatchable with less than 60 hz feed Corners are slightly off with the backlight

So far, I'm really impressed with this TV. We have a couple of OLED TVs in the house and they're superb. But this QLED TCL is surprisingly close to them and at a far lower cost. Colors are vivid and blacks are deeper than I thought they would be. And having Roku built into the TV is super convenient for the way we watch, with virtually everything streamed. All in all, a very nice TV at a great price.

I got this TV for it's picture quality (with local backlighting) and the smart OS. I've been an owner of Roku devices for years now and I've always been impressed at how long they continue to update devices. I wanted to make sure I'd have a TV that wouldn't be forcefully obsolete in 5 years and figured Roku would be the best company to make that happen. Moving to the picture, my last TV was a budget TV and the difference is enormous. Blacks are truly black thanks to local backlighting and colors/brights really pop (too much tbh, had to change picture quality settings a bit). I also like the multiple picture modes as I can change it to movie when I want more muted/realistic lighting and colors and change it to sports when I want clarity over anything else. So far very happy with this TV. Sound is also impressive, however I use a receiver with speakers connected to it so I've only heard the TV's sound a little. (But the support for HDMI eARC is also great!)
