Hands down the best budget 4k TV!

So i bought this TV from a best buy store near me a week before thanksgiving. It was at a sale price of 400 and i decided not to wait till Black Friday because the 55 inch were not included in the crazy discounts of Blackfriday. And I wanted it quick! Now about the TV. This is a beautifully made 4k tv with excellent picture quality. The Roku system it comes with is absolutely incredible and that alone adds tremendous points in favor of this TV as compared to other smart TVs. The roku app on your phone lets you type into Youtube apps or other apps thru your phone and also has a remote feature. the TV itself does come with a remote too. You can also have a bluetooth headphone connected to your phone and then route the audio of your TV only to your headphones(Note that this does not work for devices connected via HDMI cable such as a cable box but It WILL work for the apps in the TV such as netflix, youtube, plex etc). Roku comes with tremendous amount of apps in its channel store and you can also add many private channels by looking them up online and adding a code into your online roku account, which will in turn install the channel in your TV. The setup of the TV is really easy. It does support ethernet and wifi both. It supports 5Ghz band wifi too but i had to set my router to 5Ghz channel 48 instead of setting it in auto to detect the faster wifi instead of just the 2.4ghz regular wifi, if you have a dual band router. The picture quality and sound quality is great for me. I am not a TV expert and sure, there maybe TVs with even better picture quality, but i watched a bunch of 4k movies on this one and even when i stood right near the TV, it felt as if i could just walk into the TV because it seemed so real! I am more than satisfied, I am very happy with the picture quality. The audio sometimes need to be set high on my cable box but I think that issue is with the cable box and not the TV. The Roku system is so good that i can't praise it enough. I can easily mirror my laptop or youtube from my phone onto the TV without having to change inputs for the chromecast. It automatically switches whenever i connect to the Roku through my phone or my laptop. You can even cast websites from your iphone with various Roku compatible apps on the App store. I can even use my APPLE WATCH as a REMOTE by using an app that can also be added into your apple watch!! Its incredible! The TV also autoupdates the Roku system. One improvement i would recommend would be adding a web browser which this TV does not have. If you don't want to spend a fortune but want a great looking picture on your TV then THIS IS THE ONE TO BUY! you will not be disappointed.

When I saw the price of this TV, my first reaction was to keep on looking. I had never heard of TCL, and a 55" 4K Smart TV with built-in Roku for $399.00 seemed like a misprint. I researched TCL and was surprised to find out they are the 3rd largest TV manufacturer in the world and has been in business since the 80's. I read reviews of this TV from many different places, and overwhelmingly people loved it. I went to Best Buy to look at it and was impressed. I bought it, took it home, and haven't looked back yet. Setup of this TV was very easy. The picture is very sharp, and the audio from the TV beats my Samsung hands down. With built-in Roku, it is an amazing deal. I am using my Harmony remote to control all functions of this TV, and so far, I haven't had to teach the remote any commands. This TV is in the Harmony database. I purchased a Mohu HD indoor antenna and plugged it into the TV. It scanned for channels and in about 3 minutes provided over 60 channels with perfect picture. I was able to easily hide channels I didn't want, and rename the others to a more understandable label. This week I am adding a 32GB USB thumb drive to the back, and this will allow for up to 90 minutes of pause/fast forward on live TV. This is an awesome feature. This TV is awesome. The picture is outstanding, setup is easy, and rivals smart TV's costing 2 - 3 times as much. My only complaint would be that the feet aren't as sturdy as I would like them to be. That being said, I have had no problems with the stability of the TV. I would definitely recommend this TV.

    5 star for Price Category

I try to review things based on the category in which I purchased them and the price. I also factor in my use case. In this case this is going into a 10x12 living room for primary viewing, and it sits facing a window. My parents (60 somethings) will be using this tv. This TV was on sale and the price was $430 out the door. At $430 for a 55" TV you will not find a better value across the board. Negatives first as these may be deal breakers for some HDR - It can process an HDR signal, it however actually looks worse than 4k content without HDR as the TV does not get bright enough with HDR on and it doesn't have a wide color gamut to have any benefit. At $430 on sale or even $460 when it is not on sale you cannot expect true HDR. However I listed as a negative since it is marketed as an HDR TV. I cannot find any other negatives for the TV as of now. Positives ROKU Interface - Very slick, very easy to use, navigation is a breeze and it is very responsive. My parents sometimes struggle with figuring out what input goes to what. ROKU makes this easier, when you label an input it doesnt say HDMI1, 2 any longer. It looks like an app and says CABLE BOX, BLU RAY PLAYER, VIDEO GAME CONSOLE, etc etc. It also shows you what is playing on that device at that time. My parents always know how to get back to CABLE because it says cable box and gives a preview of what is on the cable box. The apps are also very bright, and easy to find. Remote: Again keeping my parents in mind, the remote is very simplified with few buttons, and shortcuts to netflix and amazon. Simple is good Input lag: My parents could care less about this but I gave it a whirl anyhow, this tv is awesome for gaming. If you are looking for a TV and you care about lag first and foremost, I would look at this TCL first and foremost. 720 picture - Looks pretty good, fairly vibrant, isnt too "soft" 9/10 1080 - Very good 10/10 4k - 10/10 Judder - There is no judder one blu rays, I am sensitive to Judder and there is none from this source. There is a very faint amount of judder on cable sources, again mind you I am sensitive to it so you may not see it Overall if you are keeping your expectations in line, the size for the cost and absolutely do not want to spend $500 and up for a 55" TV I would be hard pressed to recommend anything else over the TCLS405

Great TV for Less than Half the Price of a Samsung

I was talking to someone at my work who had mentioned this brand when they were shopping for a TV. I had never heard of TCL before, so I started looking into them as well just to look, and I couldn't believe the price I was seeing for a large 4K TV. I never thought I would own a 55" TV, but here I am with an excellent 55" TV, and I didn't have to break the bank wide open to get it. Picture: *The quality of the picture on this TV is great. Crisp Colors, doesn't get blurred at all when a dark scene occurs, and great for watching sports as well! Price: *This TV is worth every penny. Believe me, if you are looking at this one next to a Samsung, go with this one! You will not be sorry. Why spend $1000+ for a Samsung with the same specs (if not fewer features) when you can get this one for $400, and then you could get a sound system and/or a new gaming system for the same price as you would pay for the Samsung TV by itself? ROKU: *I love the ROKU feature. I had a ROKU stick for my other TV, so finding this one with ROKU built in was a no brainer as I can now watch my whatever I want on either TV. LOVE this feature! Overall, I would have to say that I love this TV and am very glad I purchased it. I've only had it for a little over a week, but it has been wonderful so far! If you are in the market for a 55+ inch TV, you should definitely go with this TCL. In a word, it is AWESOME! You will not be sorry!

The first TV I watched was not even in color. Now, you need a college degree to understand how they work. Don't bother, just buy this one. After you unpack it, write down the phone number on the sticker on the back, and call it. The people who answer are the best. They'll get you up and running and they are very patient. After set-up, sit back and be completely amazed. No TV at any price is nicer than this.

Upgraded from Toshiba 1080p which was also purchased from Best Buy. I can immediately see the difference in picture quality. Lots of picture adjustment options. Smart TV controls seem fast (some TVs can be slow to navigate menus), starts up fast from standby. Can power on TV from phone if you can’t find the remote. Only drawback so far is the Roku remote doesn’t have a headphone jack like a stand-alone Roku does. You can download the Roku remote on your phone and connect headphones that way. Overall satisfied with the product.

Price and others reviews were the reasons for my purchase. Already had one TV which I added Roku and loved the service. To get Roku built in was a bonus. Setup was straight forward and adding options as receiver , DVD and HD antenna was easy. Adjusting the picture quality and options showed a difference and allows you to fine tune for your viewing preferences. As a value buyer, this has been a amazing buy.

The value on this TV does not get better. This was $200 cheaper than the black Friday deal with the same specs. We originally planned to get a Toshiba, but when we went to look at it in person, the picture was remarkably bad. This TV is beyond crisp, HDR and 4K which is not common at this price point. The built-in Roku functions great and I’m surprised at all the free channels they have. Even Tetris!

This TV is a steal for the price. Linked up to my wifi no problem, making streaming Netflix and Amazon very easy. 4k picture is great, although I can’t compare it to any more expensive models as I don’t have any experience with other brands. Only complaint I can think of is that the remote is very small. My daughter has lost it twice now, haha.

    Price vs Performance is Excellent

I opted for this model because of the overall value of features. I wanted a 55", HDR, 4K but had a limited budget. I was not disappointed. The overall performance is excellent. The Roku interface is easy to navigate and adds useful features. The picture quality is very good especially for the money. The biggest lack is the blacks which are the hardest hues to reproduce. They get muddy in some scenes which may decease some of your watching enjoyment if you are super critical of picture quality. I originally had the P405 but the picture was unsatisfactory when watching the darker scenes. I also purchased an enhanced TCL remote to add the headphone jack and voice commands which worked very well. I was very disappointed to learn that these 2 features will not perform with the enhanced remote on the P605. It seems that the P607 which is in limited distribution is necessary to get the headphone jack on the remote and voice command features to work.

I'll start by saying I'm really picky when it comes to choosing things. I looked at many reviews before settling on this one. If you are a tech enthusiast, a gamer, or just someone who wants a great picture for your movies and TV shows, you'll be satisfied. This TV has great colour, brightness and sound overall. Sure you could spend more and always get more, but this one doesn't disappoint. You won't suffer light bleed, poor contrast or other nuances that are often problems with cheaper sets. I play a lot of video games so low response time was a must. It's advertised as 15ms but in gaming mode it feels cleaner than that even. Definitely quick enough for me to play competitive Overwatch comfortably. I also do a lot of video editing and the colour accuracy is sufficient. I haven't run any of the programs to specifically test this but it looks nice and I have a pretty well trained eye from many years editing video. As a smart TV it is snappy and we'll functioning. Boot time is essentially instant and the is no lag from remote input to on screen response. Netflix easily streams in 4k with a stable connection. If I had one negative to say, it's that the remote sensor is on the bottom of the screen which makes me have to aim over the lip of my desk while on the couch. But otherwise this TV is amazing both for entertainment and productivity.

Love this TV. It replaced a 50 inch TV that wat destroyed by lightning. Best thing that happened because the picture on this is far superior to the original one. It is comparable to my $500 Vizio QLED, maybe slightly better. Just be sure you go through the settings while watching any video because it arrives in the power save mode and you can only change picture settings while watching a video. I have two negative comments regarding the video but they are not severe enough to warrant less than 5 stars: 1. When a scene goes fully dark there is noticeable splotchiness across the screen - appears to be backlight bleed. This is not noticeable at all during normal viewing. 2. When the picture settings are adjusted for good blacks, some videos that contain indoor scenes seem to be darker than intended. The sound out of the built-in speakers is decent but I paired mine with a Yamaha sound bar. The TV can control the sound bar's power and audio level by using an HDMI cable connected to input 1 but you will need to detect the sound bar through settings / CEC. The built-in Roku works very smoothly, connects to Netflix and other apps quickly. During the initial setup you can select which apps you want to download and which apps you want to appear in the apps menu. What impressed me most about this product was the TCL customer service. On two occasions I found it necessary to call their customer service line. Both times the call was answered quickly and my questions were answered accurately. The agent stayed on the phone and walked me through the settings menu and waited until I was sure the problem I was having was resolved.

I love my Roku TV. the price, value, and set up was amazing. I plan to get rid of my expensive satellite tv service and go Roku whole hog. The TV is sleek and the clarity and color is as good or better than a TV we purchased 1 year ago for $1,000+. We have this in our bedroom therefore making it a theatre room with amazing sound and color when relaxing in bed or watching the news early in the morning. Again, simple but advanced features with easy set up. Fantastic price. I had no issues with the remote as some reviewers may have mentioned.

Overall this TV is probably the absolute best budget 4K TV you can buy. What I loved most about this TV is how simple and responsive the User Interface is - when you want to snap between Netflix and the Home menu, there’s very little wait time. Scrolling and searching using the remote is very easy. The reason why this TV is so price friendly, is actually 2 things: First, the backlight isn’t as bright as higher priced 4K models. If you’re in a normal room without a crazy amount of natural light, it performs just fine. But if you’re in a room engulfed with natural light, or windows without curtains, it could be a little difficult to see the screen through the glare even at the highest backlight setting. Secondly, the other reason why this TV is so price friendly, is the sound. It’s not horrible, however there are many times when watching Netflix that I need to turn the volume up to around 50, and sometimes 60, just to hear properly. This issue is easily fixable, however, by purchasing a decently priced sound bar. Overall the picture quality is amazing! The price is boarderline comical because of how cheap this TV is and you’re getting 4K HDR. And this TV’s “ease-of-use” is perfect. If you’re looking for a 55” 4K TV for less than $500, I would absolutely tell you to consider the TCL 55S405!

Saw the reviews and needed to replace a 9 year old DLP. Figured it’s worth the risk with the 5 year protection plan being $80. First tv had some weird lines go through it. Exchanged for a new one that’s been perfectly fine overall it’s a great value. The picture looks great, especially compared to my old TV. 4k Netflix and VUDU look awesome. Haven’t done a 4k blu ray yet. Just do yourself a favor and spend the $80 on the service plan. For $480 you have a great tv that’s guaranteed for 5 years.

Great value bang for the buck I have one, and think Ill go get another for the bedroom. I paid 75 bucks less at Target, Walmart also has them same price. Im sure Best Buy will price match. Roku built in, no issues easy set up, made just as good as any other TV these days, the remote is a Roku remote which I like, I wish it was the remote with headphone jack in it. 55 inches is plenty big enough, its not worth double the price just for 65 inch in my opinion. Check Taget and walmart price and then have Best Buy price match it.

For the price is pretty amazing. It is a bit glarey from angle if you are watching it from the side. I had it for two weeks and I was going to return it for a smaller tv because it is in my bedroom and I watch tv a lot from the side. The picture is a bit whiteish but I realize I had to change the picture settings because it was on low and you can change it to movie or vivid mode and it makes a big difference. Also it was on dark mode when the tv came but I changed it to brighter. Picture looks great now. Also the sound can be changed and it makes a difference. But sound from the tv needs improvement. When watching a movie with guns, the shooting sounds are very loud, but when people are speaking in the movie it does not sound as good as can be! I am very happy with the tv now after the settings are changed. Also the remote control is a bit awkward. I have a tv antenna plugged into the tv to watch local channels. For the first couple of days the channels were on the right channels, but now the channels are 5.2, 7.2, 11.2. Instead of the main channels 5.1, 7.1, 11.1. The roku remote doesn't have the numbers on the remote so I can't press the channels in. I had an insignia 40" roku tv before and it was good for 3 years but stopped working.

This kind of TV at this size and at this price can't be beat. It's easy to set up and looks pretty good. My only gripes are that the remote seems to work only at certain angles, the image has a slight blue tint unless you're directly in front of the TV and my TV in particular seems to have a couple of dull shadows at the top of the screen. However, this is minor, probably temporary, and no LCD TV is perfect. All in all, I'm satisfied.

This TV looks good, sounds good, and seems to function well. I like the ROKU interface. I honestly couldn't tell you much about how spectacular the picture quality is compared to other TVs of similar quality and/or price, but for our moderate streaming speed, it seems to have a nice, clear picture. I'd never heard of TCL before buying this TV, but I would recommend this particular model to friends, especially for the great price.
