    Great Value for the Money

I have a TCL55US57 (no longer making) that I bought in Feb 2017 and I just bought this TCL55S405. It is not a true 120hz refresh rate like the 55US57, but is close in comparison with this TV. Some reviews come down hard on this point (the refresh rate), but I don't think it is that significant as to deter people from getting this TV. I also have a SONY 65" 4K (120hz naive refresh) and a Insignia 50" 4K (60hz native refresh) NS-50DR620NA18 as well. It is better than the Insignia, but not as good as the Sony. However, I paid $1100 for the Sony and $399 for the TCL. The color and maximizing the backlighting make up for this deficiency on the TCL55S405. It is a great TV for those on a budget or don't want to spend a lot of money. I love the ROKU feature and wish more TV manufacturers had this capability. I don't have cable or satellite TV. I stream with ROKU. I watch a lot of sports and you will like this TV for this purpose. The TV does a good job of up-scaling shows and sports from 1080 to 2160 (or getting as close to 2160 as possible).

No other tv comes close at this price. Awesome picture, Roku apps perform almost as quickly as they do on newer Apple TV generations.

By far the worst remote control I have ever used. If you can get past the very low tech remote, the picture quality and features of the tv are well worth the price. The audio is rather poor also, but paired with a soundbar that problem is rapidly fixed.

While this set isn't going to compete with an LG OLED, as the owner of both I can say that for the price of this Roku TV ($400) you're getting way more than you have any right to expect. The built in Roku alone would cost you $100 if purchased separately. Though the set did require some calibration to get it looking great out of the box, I absolutely love it and have zero complaints. Well, maybe one: HDR content is dim if you're watching television in a bright sunny room. This set performs at its best in dimmer environments.

    A Pretty Good Bargain

This kind of TV at this size and at this price can't be beat. It's easy to set up and looks pretty good. My only gripes are that the remote seems to work only at certain angles, the image has a slight blue tint unless you're directly in front of the TV and my TV in particular seems to have a couple of dull shadows at the top of the screen. However, this is minor, probably temporary, and no LCD TV is perfect. All in all, I'm satisfied.

I did some research before I chose this TV and I agree with the reviews. This is a great TV for the price. The picture is nice and clear and the colors are bright. Setting it up was a breeze with onscreen, step by step instructions. The one downside is that I wish there was a way to sync the Roku remote with my Direct TV remote because the volume is on the Roku remote and I need the other for channels, recording, etc. Otherwise, I'm very pleased.

I was looking at Doorbuster deals and ready to pull the trigger on a Samsung. But, I just can't impulse buy. Must. Do. Research. It's a burden I live with! So, I jumped online and discovered several reviews that rated the TCL as a best value at the same price point as the Samsung. I had never even heard of TCL. More research. More positive reviews. Especially from other Best Buy customers who had bought this same tv. I took the plunge and I couldn't be happier. The picture is exceptional for the price paid!

This is one of the cheaper 55 inch TVs out there with 4K. I didn't buy it for the 4K, but the picture is impressive. Other reviewers have commented about the small Roku remote without any number inputs, but I have been using my cable remote so it is not an issue. It was easy to set up, and you can change the settings so cable comes on automatically when the TV is turned on, instead of the default Roku menu screen. All in all, a good value.

TV part great - bad for wall mount.

The TV and features are surprisingly good for the price - however - the location of the screws for wall mounting is terrible. The holes are way down low on the back of the TV - which causes the TV to mount MUCH higher than it should be. Because the mounting holes are so low - there's no real "wiggle room" for moving the brackets up or down or else they'll show underneath the TV. In my case the recessed wall plugs I installed were exposed because of the height of the TV on the wall. I ended up returning it and go a Samsung that has the mounting holes in the center of the back of the TV which allows you to adjust the mounting brackets up or down. I didn't realize how low the bracket holes were on this TV or I'd have either addressed my recessed plug locations on the wall or simply bought something else. Just hoping someone with intentions of wall mounting this particular TV sees this and either accounts for the weird locations of the holes or looks else. If you only want to put the TV on it's legs and on a stand it would be great for the price. Wall mount - no so much. :(

This tv has everything needed to cut the cord. It's easy to use and intuitive. The picture is good - better of course than the 6 yo tv it replaced - and in addition we can play video games on it without the lag the old tv had. So,it's a good multipurpose smart tv that is a great price and a great size. The remote has shortcut buttons to Sling tv, Hulu, and Netflix, which is also handy. We paired it with a JBL sound bar but the volume was fine without it.

I have both the 49” and 55” version of this tv now. I do have to say the 49” does have a noticeable better quality to it. But the 55 isn’t bad. I use this as a desk tv paired with the kilipsch 2.1bt speakers and it works and sounds great. I do not regret my purchase at all @ $400 and would buy again.

This is my 3rd TCL Roku TV. Each time I've gotten a new one, it was to go up a size. I currently own the 50 and 55 inch and previously a 3? inch. I've never had any issues with any of them, they are solid TVs that are easy to use and look great. I almost went with another brand this time, just to switch it up, but changed my mind after reading reviews about how the TV goes black constantly and you have to restart it. For the price, this is the best tv out there!

this thing looks AMAZING to me. I'm upgrading from a 9 year old Vizio LCD TV and have no complaints at all about this TCL. The price was great and the picture looks fantastic compared to my old set. Yes, obviously you can see the difference when comparing a $350 (price I paid for it) TV to a $1300 one, but if you're even considering paying a grand for a television, then you're not considering this one at all. I'd highly recommend this set.

Price match Target and Walmart, they are cheaper.

Great value bang for the buck I have one, and think Ill go get another for the bedroom. I paid 75 bucks less at Target, Walmart also has them same price. Im sure Best Buy will price match. Roku built in, no issues easy set up, made just as good as any other TV these days, the remote is a Roku remote which I like, I wish it was the remote with headphone jack in it. 55 inches is plenty big enough, its not worth double the price just for 65 inch in my opinion. Check Taget and walmart price and then have Best Buy price match it.

If you can catch this on sale, it is a lot of TV for the money. Good picture, solid sound and most smart functions (except mirroring). As others have said, the remote is a small Roku, but I am usually using the cable remote. It comes with the Roku screen as the factory default when you turn it on, but you can change that in settings. At $379, it’s hard to beat for a 55 inch TV Right now.

I bought this TV at a great price, and was excited because I read good things about TCL. I thought I was getting a really good deal. The picture was nice, the OS was responsive, the remote and app very easy to use as well. So why the one star? Well, less than a year after I bought it, it stopped working. It no longer displayed picture. The issue is most likely it needs new backlights, maybe a new motherboard, or both. If you look online, a lot of people had similar issues. I contacted TCL directly and they were giving me the runaround so I gave up. I still have the TV, maybe someday I'll fix it. I've been using my 10+ year old Samsung Plasma since then. It's old but it gets the job done. No fancy HD for the moment though

Have only had it up for about 1 month but really a great set for the price. I bought it to use outdoors. Figured for the price, I can replace 4 of these before spending the same amount as 1 outdoor rated TV. Biggest fear was if the sound would get loud enough without a sound bar, and happy to say the send gets plenty load for my outdoor living space. Picture is fantastic, although I have not tested the 4K capability.

Was looking into getting a 55" 4k TV, was deciding between a comparable LG and Insignia, luckily I went into the store and the sales rep showed us this option which was priced in between the other 2 options. Setup was super easy and navigation with the Roku system is simple. It's very light and the sound is surprisingly good. I'm sure you could spend more and get a better picture but for the price, this is great.

This TV looks good, sounds good, and seems to function well. I like the ROKU interface. I honestly couldn't tell you much about how spectacular the picture quality is compared to other TVs of similar quality and/or price, but for our moderate streaming speed, it seems to have a nice, clear picture. I'd never heard of TCL before buying this TV, but I would recommend this particular model to friends, especially for the great price.

There are better TVs but they are much more expensive or make compromises in one aspect to make it better in others. This tv has 4:4 croma sub sampling and low latency witch makes It great for consoles and as a pc monitor witch I do. The roku also nice and make the ui realy easy to use.
