Tv not working properly. I can be watching a movie, I get a glitch in tv and the movie restarts or the TV will turn itself off! It takes a long pause before it changes channel. Takes agile to channel on.
Ask of this said, I think I got a lemon. I’m thinking about returning.

The TV is ok. But no matter what we have on,it eventually turns off without us touching it instead of just staying on. A bit frustrating,none of our other TV’s do this.

TCL Firmware Input Remote Control Issue

Hard pass due to incompatibility (wish I had not bought).
Solid picture quality and sound, but the Input control makes it a Poor overall.
Need a TCL firmware update for the 58S5F, fixing their Input control implementation so that it's compatible with other remotes.
I've checked a well-known, popular, universal remote provider, one supporting a large number of modern makes/models (including other TCL TVs), looking for something that could work with the TCL 58S5F (to change Input source) and FiOS, no luck there.
We have FiOS TV One (current generation FiOS, with companion FiOS voice remote) and use an external Roku device (current generation streaming stick, with Roku voice remote). We're stuck using the TCL remote just to change the input to FiOS (HDMI 2). Real PITA is that the TV does recognize the Roku, will change to that if you push the Roku control Home button, but it will NOT change to the FiOS HDMI if you press Menu/Guide/... on the FiOS remote, nor will it accept the FiOS remote Input button (pop up the inputs on the TV for you to select the desired one); you have to use the TCL remote just to switch the input.
Both Roku and FiOS remotes can be paired to allow power/volume/mute, just the Input command is not processed.
Going in I recognized this was a Smart Fire TV, but planned on using it in "dumb" mode, just use our FiOS and Roku controllers to turn the set on/off, change volume. and change between the HDMI inputs (from the FiOS remote).
No issue using precisely that FiOS remote control for Input selection with multiple other recent TVs, it's the TCL58S5F Smart Fire implementation that's bad.

It's an okay tv for the price -- but colors appear flat and black levels are dark gray. It was worth it for me to trade up to a full panel LED tv so I returned it.

It fails too often. Bad tv It always freezes when it's halfway through the movie. The same thing happened with the last TV, which I returned because of the same problem, and this one is doing the same thing.

This Tv Started Giving Me Issues Within A Week ! It Started To Lag & Delay Responses When Remote Was Pressed. Had To Press The Buttons Multiple Times For An Reaction. It Also Restarted (Signed Me Out Of My Amazon Account) Multiple Times. No Buttons Were Pressed When That Occurred. If You Can Deal With Those Issues Than Purchase. Not really impressed with the fire operating system lag from remote to tv. Have to wait like 10-12 seconds. Sound keeps stopping they did get that taken care of. Just not impressed.
