Excellent 4K UHD Smart Roku TV

I have had this TCL Roku TV for over a week now and so far, so good. After narrowing down my choices to three TVs (Vizio P-Series X 2020 model, Sony X900H 2020 model, and TCL R635 2020 model) I decided to pull the plug on the TCL Roku TV. This 75R35 replaced a Samsung 65” KS8000 tv in our family room. First things first. This in not a high-end tv and you do not pay for high-end (Name Brand) pricing either. However, for a budget 4K UHD Smart tv, you are getting a whole lot of value for your money. The picture quality of the TCL Roku TV is as good or even better than the Samsun KS8000 in some aspects. The reason I got this TCL Roku is because I wanted a 75-inch screen TV with eARC capability, and the fact it has Roku built in and since I am a big Roku fan this wa the right TV for me. I do not care for HDMI 2.1 at this moment because it will be at least 5 more years for new technology to take advantage of HDMI 2.1 connectivity. I am mainly using this tv for watching movies and sports, and occasional video gaming. The picture quality out of the box is impressive in my opinion and it gets even better after fine tuning the picture settings to room characteristics and personal viewing preference. My family room is bright with white color walls and ceiling and the TCL 75R35 tv gets bright enough to display a beautiful, clear picture. The TCL tv has excellent contrast and quick response time. This tv, does not have blooming, light bleed, or dirty screen issues as others have mentioned. This tv produces deep blacks as advertise. Local dimming works great on this TV. Content in HDR10 and Dolby Vision look amazing using default picture settings and you can always fine tune the default settings to your personal preference. Keep in mind you can improve the picture quality by doing a little fine tuning yourself or professionally calibrate the tv if you want to spend $250-$300 extra. The TCL 75R635 is an excellent 4K UHD Smart TV at this price range.

This is a very very impressive tv. I would say it beats Samsung’s q70t tv which is more expensive. The color is incredibly vibrant, black levels can be superb (almost like an OLED), and man does this tv get BRIGHT. Up to 1000nits which is... bright to say the least. There is slight color banding when you view a panning sky for example but you have to be looking for it to notice. Speakers are, while not Soundbar quality, pretty good. I still prefer roku over something like Google tv or risen or webos so this tv gets that right, but that’s my preference.

Excellent Picture - Not allowing IR Remote Control

The TV is as advertised and has good blacks. My problem so far, is both the remote that comes with the TV(no ir control) and even a separate Enhanced Voice Remote, are both completely locked out for "controlling IR on audio device", such as a sound bar or some other IR device right when you pair it to the Roku TV. There is literally no option to control IR or setup IR on a different Enhanced Voice Remote purchased separately which of course online is the recommended way, but something is wrong with the Roku TV OS in the remote menu blocking the enhanced voice remote from setting up IR Control. When I use said above remote with a different Roku device in the house, it offers the expected pair with TV/IR Sound device options under the remote options just fine. I think this is a huge oversight and possibly just a bug with the embedded Roku TV OS vs. a normal Roku streaming stick or ultra. It was heavy of course and pretty difficult to handle up high on wall to mount so don't get a cheap mount or you will have a hard time. I will say in regard to blacks, that there is still a slight halo around dark background with white text. This has never bothered me on ANY tv, but I figured since people obsess over this, I should mention this. I notice it on the Dolby Vision Roku channel, with the Dolby Vision logo itself in top right, which also occurs on Netflix Dolby Vision titles at the start in top right of picture. However in real content, I never notice any white halo around black background with light objects.

I cannot boast enough about the picture this TV delivers, plus the built-in sound is quite ammazing! you MUST get a very good quality HDMI cable though and make sure you use the arc HDMI input. Otherwise, the display is only going to be as good as the device you connect to it. We mounted this tv high up above our mantle, angled it down in a bright room and it STILL looks great. It does seem a bit heavier though than what's listed in the specifications, so make sure you have a good mount. The value and what you get with this TV seriously cannot be beat. To have the same with Samsung or Sony, I imagine you'd have to pay triple what you pay for this.

I recently purchased a 75 inch TCL Series 6 and I feel compelled to leave a positive review to show my appreciation. I used to believe that I was a VIZIO fan for affordable TV’s. After hearing about the TCL TV’s multiple times for the past two years or so, and after seeing them on multiple best TV lists, I decided to purchase this TV on a recent pre-Black Friday deal. I paid $1,299.00. I’m so happy that I made this decision! This TV is light years beyond anything that I have owned previously. The blacks are pretty much OLED level to my human eyes! The brightness is perfect no matter the time of the day. I played PS5 on it for the first time and WOW. Blown away at the colors, the contrast, sharpness, as well as the brightness. I am a HUGE fan of TCL now. I feel like a kid on Christmas lol. This is also my first experience with Roku. All I’ve known is Google up to this point and I’m blown away by that as well. The simplicity of the controller makes it extremely user friendly. The software runs smoothly without any hiccups or hesitation. All the YouTube reviews & articles online we’re spot on! This TV is an amazing value for the money! I seriously believe this TV could rival sets at higher price points. I couldn’t be happier honestly.

After doing tons of research we bought this tv. I really wanted to love it based on it's specs. I still might later, and I'll update this if it works out. The good: It has a great picture, as long as it's not HDR content. The bad: - Ours is defective out of the box. There's a box about 3" square that is darker than the rest of the screen. Right below that is a mirror box that is lighter than the rest of the screen. They aren't there when you first turn it on, but show up after a minute or two. Sometimes they swap positions. - HDR content is very washed out. It looks like someone turned the contrast way down and the brightness way up. - Sometimes the sound just stops for no apparent reason. Within a minute of this happening, the TV reboots. - The remote is pretty much useless. There's literally no channel up / down. Hopefully your cable / satellite / av receiver / whatever remote can operate the TV. Because of the size, we can't easily return / exchange it. It took a LOT of convincing (far more than it should have) but Geek Squad is coming out today to look at it.

The picture quality is great in this 75inch screen. The colors seem to jump out at you! The only problem I had was with the remote control, it doesn’t work had issues with it from the very start when I took it out of the box. Not a good device have been using the Roku app on my iPhone. TCL needs to do better to enhance its remote control.

    TCL 75” 6 Series

This 75” TV is out second TCL that has been installed (a third is waiting to be installed in our owner’s suite). I was not that familiar with TCL until I started researching TVs in November 2020. I missed the Black Friday and Christmas and Super Bowl sales because I couldn’t make up my mind what I wanted and what I was willing to spend. I was all set to buy the LG OLED CX series TVs for our bedroom and kitchen. As I read about potential burn in and lack of brightness, I started to rethink my decision. The LG appears to be a beautiful TV in the store and has great reviews, but I’m not sure it was right for my rooms. As I continued to look, the TCL 6 Series kept popping up as one of the best TVs for the money on CNET and Consumer Reports. The mini-LEDs and full array dimming are the primary features that lured me in. I think it has all the features and connectivity that I need to watch TV and some movies. I’m not a gamer, so all of those specs/speed that gamers are looking for don’t matter to me. If you are looking for a nice TV with an awesome picture at a reasonable price, I don’t know that you can beat the TCL. Back in the days of tubes, I always bought Sony, if I could afford it, and my family room TV is a 65” Samsung that has been great. I am hoping the TCL lasts and performs as expected. If it does, I will be a very happy customer. It is a great looking TV!

I put this TV in my living room over the fireplace. I liked it so much I bought another for my flex room. I use both with fuboTV, Netflix, YouTube and so on. I am not a huge tv guy in clarity and 4K, just a regular person who watches tv in the evenings. It has a great picture when watching movies on Netflix. Even watching regular tv on fuboTV it has a good picture. I had big plans on buying a sound bar, but I’ve been very impressed with the sound on this tv, so I’ve scrapped my sound bar plans for now. I do not play video games but I bet it would be awesome. Made in China.

Fails to deliver on promises features

Can’t give this more than three stars. There is an issue with variable refresh rate (vrr) at 120hz. Setting this up causes severe gamma flickering every 20 seconds to a minute on both nvidia and amd video cards. Also the screen will just cut out for 3-5 seconds every 30 minutes or so when using 120hz refresh rate. There’s also this weird line that appears at the top of the screen at 1440p. These are universal problems with this television (not just my tv). You won’t notice them if you don’t use 120hz or a 1440p resolution but these issues make games unplayable at 120hz. It must not have been fully tested by tcl and I was ghosted by customer service when I brought the issue up with them. I suspect it’s a processor issue and doubt it will ever be fixed at this point. Otherwise it’s a good tv overall and provides a great picture. Would be best in class value if it did what it said it does. I’ve noticed more and more electronic companies promising/advertising features and failing to deliver without a bundle of issues. This is a worrying trend if it continues. Buyer beware.

Watched every YouTube video and read every Cnet article and this TV was on the most "Best"/Top 10 lists..Movies/Sports/TV/PS4 all look amazing. Movies from the 80s look like they were made this year and anything in 4K looks like it happening in your house. Just takes a little time to fine tune the settings. Roku is easy to setup/use.

Otherwise great TV plagued by panel defects

    |
    |
Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed.
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Cons: *Defective display on two separate units (see photos) *Remote doesn't have any customizable "quick launch" buttons or headphone jack (like the deluxe stand-alone Roku units do) *Doesn't switch the A/V receiver to "TV" input automatically when any app is launched (like my old Samsung and new Sony on the same receiver did) Pros: *Outstanding picture quality (aside from the panel defects) *VERY bright screen (Dolby Vision looks exceptionally great on this set) *Great picture control of many elements from each individual source *Momentary visual confirmation (that can be turned off) of the TV receiving a Dolby Vision signal *Easy to access input ports even when the set is flush-mounted to a wall *Very customizable menu layout *Detailed feedback from the set about the capabilities of an A/V receiver plugged into its eARC port (and ability to modify) I really, Really, REALLY wish that both of the sets that I purchased (the second was an exchange for the first defective set) didn't have the panel defects that they did. The television was otherwise superb. I upgraded to a 75" from a three-year-old Samsung quantum dot 65" display (which is now serving duty in the game room). I've never seen a set with this high of a dynamic range...inky dark blacks and painfully bright highlights with ZERO color washout. I'd not owned a television with Roku previously, and despite my not liking the menu at first, it quickly grew on me and I miss it now. I wound up getting a Sony 900 series as a replacement, and its picture quality is just not as good, but since it doesn't have defects the TCL sets had, I'm keeping it. Here are some details about the panel defects. Like other reviewers, my set was plagued by an almost "bullseye" pattern visible on monochromatic screens or horizontally scrolling scenes. A household member who's completely oblivious to picture issues gasped and said, "What's that?" when viewing a horizontally scrolling scene, so it was VERY bad. A tech support call to TCL resulted in their advising me to return the set, which I did. My second set had exactly the same problem, although not as severely as the first. The second set also had a problem in the upper left-hand and upper right-hand corners in that one local dimming zone at each appeared to not be able to dim as darkly as the rest of the screen did, resulting in "large, bright corners" on darker scenes. I returned the second set as well. I also found that shining a bright flashlight at both screens with the set off resulted in what appeared as a topographical relief map, which suggests some sort of lamination problem. When shopping for replacements, another giant major retailer told me, "There's a reason we don't sell TCL any longer", and their quality control issues appear to be why. Please don't by this TV...you'll save yourself a bunch of hassle and headache.

First want to start off by saying I first purchased the 55” inch version and should have known. That one had issues right out the box but was resolved by returning and getting a different one. Professional reviewers of the Tv tout its color accuracy and black levels for the money but I just don’t see it. TV randomly went into what I called snow mode which was only rectified by doing a factory reset. Panel has banding and blacks are incredibly inconsistent. Currently trying to rectify with TCL customer support, will keep updated. The TV is still in return window but “75 inch is so big have no way of getting it back to the store.

Gigantic burn-in blob from design flaw/overheating

Very disappointed with this TV. I've had other smaller TCLs in the past which have been fine, but I would strongly advise against buyinga large TCL. I bought this 75-inch model, and after less than 1.5 yrs of casual use, a gigantic green blob formed in the middle of the TV (see pic), making it extremely distracting to watch. [For reference: The picture on the TV is a snow scene where all of the shot should be white. The green you see is the TV burn-in.] From my research many others have reported this issue - it seems to be a design flaw that (at this size of screen) where the TV does not circulate/vent heat properly, leading to large burned in blobs (typically green and in the center of the screen). Very disappointed in TCL and Best Buy, because after hours of back and forth between the two, and spending $2k on this "long term investment", I was told that nothing can be done and I have to eat the cost for this damaged TV. Since this is a common occurrence with TCL TVs - and seemingly a design issue - I would expect TCL to own up to it and refund thier customers when this happens. From now on I will be staying far away from TCLs!
