Mr. Roberts, played by Henry Fonda, is the story of the interaction and buffer by Mr. Roberts between the crew and the tyrannical captain ably played by James Cagney. This somewhat sad video is tempered by the antics of Jack Lemmon as Pulver.
No Time for Sergeants is a comedy that pokes good natured fun at a backwoods boy, played by Andy Griffith, and his experience drafted into the army. The army is not ready for Will Stockdale (Griffith) and his patriotic good intentions.

No Time For Sergeants is flat out funny. Watching Andy drive his Drill Sergeant crazy is hilarious and so fun. Cameo by Don Knotts is terrific. Mister Roberts is more than a classic especially for anyone who has ever been in the military and has had a bad commander or anyone with a pencil pushing boss. Jack Lemmon and Henry Fonda show why they are legendary actors and John Ford why he’s the master director. You just can’t beat movies like these.

An amazing transfer starting faithful to the original feature film media.
This remastered HD release of the Academy Award Winning Fonda, Cagney & Lemon feature film adaptation of a Broadway show looks as though it was filmed yesterday with a clean transfer with an excellent reproduction of accurate colors and black levels.

Mister Roberts looks great in blu-ray. I love the HD quality for this iconic movie. I couldn't find it in HD to stream online on my smart TV (it's only in SD on the Vudu app and the Amazon Prime Video app). When I saw Best Buy had Mister Roberts on blu ray, I bought it as soon as it was in stock.

Seeing the interplay between the four key actors makes this film well worth it. Jack Lemmon won a well-deserved Oscar for best supporting actor for his role as Ensign Pulver. But the heart of the film involves Cagney as the captain from hell and Fonda as Lt. "Mister" Roberts who does his utmost to foster the welfare of the crew. There is both humor and drama. The ending grabs you.

Movies made at an earlier time were much better that many that are made today. No fancy computer graphics but just good acting and story lines.

Even though it was before my time, this movie was one of the first movies I watched when I was a kid. Everyone works great together in this movie and James Cagney is AWESOME! Teaches some memorable lessons about life, death, and how it's ok to challenge authority, even in the military.
