11 Years Old and Still Kicking

I originally got this back in high school for the SAT and AP Tests that allowed calculators, and never looked back. Compared to the TI-84+ this does everything. There are only 2 cons as far as I can tell, and that is you can't use it on the ACT (which requires the TI-84 but has way easier math problems anyway) and certain college math departments prohibit them. I went to one such college and every math teach I ever had I walked up to the first day and asked for permission as long as I showed my work and they were all fine with that. I'd have to rate this the best school supply I ever purchased considering it's allowed pretty much everywhere, and if you are taking physics often required, I've had mine for 11 years now and it still works. Only put it away once I was forced to use my company software. TLDR You can use this on the SAT, AP TESTS, and 99% of college all for less than the cost of a textbook.

I bought this to replace an older model TI-89 that was no longer working. I use this for Calculus and Physics. It has some different features from the older TI-89, but I was able to use it for my purposes straight out of the package without having to look at the manual. I do think that these things are a bit overpriced. I was also not crazy about the curved layout of the keypad, but I am getting used to it. I do not like the home screen, and I think that after all these years, the screen quality could have been improved. I like the calculator, but I am rather unimpressed. I would never have upgraded if my old one had still been functional. I just needed a graphing calculator that could do integrals.

    Amazing Product

I received this product summer of 2005. The capabilities of this product is seemingly endless! When it comes to math, this calculator far exceeds the capabilities of my old TI83+. It can solve your calculus problems in a jiffy, and it has the ability to do enough math functions to satisfy a high school or college student. If there is anything lacking, there are websites where users can upload calculator programs and games. The battery life on this is simply amazing, I recharge my batteries perhaps once a year. Now that I am no longer taking math, I use still use my TI89T as a calendar, and note taker. It also stores all of my phone numbers, which came in handy when I switched cell phones. In other words, this calculator can do almost anything you want it to do!

Why are they still priced so high?

Ti-89 has had a monopoly on the calculator market for a very long time, and it shows in their lack of new developments or price decrease. if you think about the technology that is inside them as compared to todays standards of growth. Calculator ti-89 $153 12mhz processor 188kb ram 2.7mb flash ram 100x160 display ipod touch 4th gen $230 700 mhz processor 256mb ram 8gb flash? memory 960X640 display Plus the fact that the ipod touch can do 80 billion other things. Now, granted that a lot of what you are paying for in the ti-89 is the software of the calculations, but those calculations and programs really haven't changed that much in the last 15 or so years. Yet, I still have to buy a ti-89 as fear of using an ipod touch or phone to cheat. I still don't appreciate being gouged.

Great features and somewhat easy to use. But I will say this for any students: I made it through all of college as an engineering student without ever using one. If you're good at math you won't need it. If you're bad at math it won't make you any better, it's just a crutch. Half the time you're not allowed to use fancy calculators during exams so your crutch has now ruined you. They also open up the door to cheating since you can write and store all kinds of things in them. If you're dedicated enough to read the instruction manual on how to use the calculator and then spend all that time writing your cheat sheets into it, just learn the material to begin with. you'll feel much better about yourself when you do well in class.

I had one for nearly 7 years before it broke, and had no problems during that time. This one is a replacement for it and I love it just as much. I am an engineering student in college and I would not have been able to get through the coursework without this calculator. It is intuitive to use, and very powerful with excellent battery life. This might be a little too much if you are just doing basic math classes so you would probably be better off saving your money, but if you are going into something math and science heavy, this calculator is worth every penny

This is an amazing calculator that is capable of performing most advanced calculations. Can be used in conjunction with an optional USB cable in order to upload data points and programs. This has same functionality as TI-92 minus the full keyboard. I had no problem using this calculator on test or exams, but I would recommend checking with your Professor/Teacher prior to purchasing.

I purchased this after giving my TI-83 to a sibling. This calculator is light years ahead of the 83. The screen is sharper, there's more memory for storing programs, and there are many more functions than my old graphing calculator. The TI-89 has helped me so much with my college calculus & physics courses. Texas Instruments has really outdone themselves with this.

Finally upgraded my smart phone from an old htc to a Moto G6. The technician was excellent and helped me get the new phone set up. Answered all my questions and was very friendly, patient, knowledgeable, and efficient. The phone has more power and ability then I need now, but as the kids teach me how to use it, I can expand my abilities easily.

This calculator has everything you need. I am just starting college and thought this calculator would be too advanced for basic math classes, but it is great for algebra and all the higher level math classes. This calculator is great and gives you all the functions you need to boost your confidence in math. The solve function alone on this calculator is worth the price. If you buy this calculator you will never need to buy another one.

The Ti-89 has many time saving features. Foe physics, math, and any engineering field, this is a must have tool. Solving multi-variable equations, linear algebra matrices, or differential equations takes half to a quarter of the time. It does take some time to get used to all the functions and how to impliment them using the correct syntax, but well worth the learning time.

The beauty of this calculator is its symbolic capabilities. It can integrate/differentiate and perform standard operations symbolically. I use it for my mechanics classes and upper-level math courses and 'til this day has not brought me down. Compared to the Ti-nspire, you don't have to charge it, the body is far more rigid and robust, and most significantly (imo), it feels like a calculator!

The price should keep most people just looking to add and subtract away, but if you're in calculus, this is the one for you!! Features FAR beyond the TI-84+, and better screen resolution and battery life. I used this one for three years in college. GREAT calc! Good investment for students, I still use mine!

Had this calculator and used for Calculus 1,2,&3. I had a tab break on the battery connector and had to replace after three years and purchased same model. Very happy with it and after I figured out the layout of the menus, it was very user friendly. It has more functions than I will probably ever use but will handle everything I need it to do.

It's a great calculator for engineering and math based problems, but if you are used to the TI-84 calculators used in high schools, it will be a struggle adjusting to it because all of the buttons are in different places, so your muscle memory will betray you for a while.

I bought this calculator for my wife however she needed different one. Nonetheless, I have owned this calculator personally before and I would recommend to and claim it to be the best on the market for anyone studying or using math - basic Calculus or higher. It should be noted though that this calculator can not be used on the ACT or SAT.

this is a great calculator for a college student. The TI 84 will not have all of the features needed in college level courses. So if your a high school student and you want to plan ahead, I'd just go ahead and get this one, the TI 89 and you should be good for years. Advanced enough to include calculus and physics functions as well.

This calculator works very well. I bought it for a AP Calculus class, and it works just like I want it to. Its graphing capabilities well exceeded my expectations. While it is slower and heavier than the N-Spire CAS, it is still a great calculator. You can get lots of useful applications too. I recommend it for anyone In high school.
