read the book a long time ago and loved it. So glad to see it being made into a mini-series or perhaps it will be a continuing series? At any rate it is excellent. Dark themes and not for the squeamish. Caleb Carr did write a sequel to The Alienist titled The Angel of Darkness so there is fodder for at least another season and the concept can be further expanded. This reminds me a bit of The Knick, another historical drama roughly set in the same time period.

Just loved it. That cast is great, the sets amazing , costumes fabulous. I really enjoy period pieces. While I’ve not read the books I thought this was well done. Keeps you guessing. It’s like stepping back in time when forensic science was beginning .

Watched this when it originally aired and had to add it to the rack as soon as it came out on BR. Hard to believe it was filmed in Hungary because it totally passes for turn of the century NYC. Not for the kiddies, though.

I have to admit, for me it was had wrapping my head around the way these characters are played in a outrageous way, but the story and plot line works all the same. Keeps your interest up.

Quality of the series is awesome. But the series is a little slow.

A wonderful series. Sharp storytelling, great characters and costumes. An American version of "Ripper Street" in a sense. You feel like you are in the time period with the recreation of 1890's New York.

The Alienist is a solid show. It’s keeps you intrigued and is very mysterious. I highly recommend watching this show. I can’t wait for the 2nd season (Alienist: Dark Angel) to come out.

Great season and movie. Can’t wait for the second season to buy. It explains how serial killers can kill without leaving evidence.

This was a good show well done good. Peace interesting plot like how they did it definitely interesting on the aspect of the story

Bought this for my father’s birthday. He was very happy and couldn’t wait to watch.

Characters were stilted and unbelievable (Luke Evans was OK), especially Sarah who had absolutely no personality unlike the character in the book. Can't believe Caleb Carr signed off on this total ruin of his book.

As anyone knows who read the book the subject matter is harrowing. Was rather disappointed in the acting - Luke Evans was great as usual, Dakota Fanning gave for the most part a very wooden performance (not like Sara in the book who had more spark) and wasn't particularly impressed with the actor playing Kreizler. Stevie's initial connection with Kreizler was never gone into which left out an interesting story (and why in the book he was referred to "The Stevepipe)." Ted Levine was very good. Think people should read the book before viewing the series and if they can't be prepared for violence and gore and of course the usual phony and unconvincing sex scenes. But overall good.
