    One of 2015's Best

If you want to see a different side to the housing crash of 2008 check this movie out. I had read the book Too Big To Fail which covers this same topic, but that book (and film which I haven't seen) took more of an inside look from the big boys JP Morgan, Lehmann Brothers, etc. as all the events unfolded. Though this movie is a great watch it can get your blood boiling just thinking about what the banks got away with during the crash. I highly recommend checking this film out.

This movie is heavy on exposition, teaching the audience about the housing crisis for 130 minutes, but never feels long. It's so well done that I have watched it several times and listen to it often when commuting. After watching it, yes, you will not understand everything that led to the crisis, you will not have all of the details of all the fraud, the lies, the criminal behavior, and the damage done to the world economy but you will have some of the broad strokes.

I'm not one to be interested in stuff that deals with the economy, finances, etc. But I did find this movie entertaining and informative. I really liked how it infused humor to this outrageous turn in history that was so diabolically unbelievable, it took humor to swallow the reality of what really happened. When I found this was made by the same group (director? producer?) that made Moneyball, it intrigued me even more, as that was another flick on a topic that you would not think would be entertaining (baseball stats).

The characters are incredibly complex and profound, despite the fact that the movie pertaints to the financial markets and bankers. It does a great job at explaining what caused the financial crisis (better than "Too big to fail" in my opinion) and shows a bleak, individualistic, short-sighted side of people which combined with "shadow banking" and gambling-like hyper-leveraged financial products results in an explosive reaction where everyone pays.

A very eye opening movie that makes it very easy to follow for those of us who don't understand real estate jargon or aren't really interested in it. Kept my attention the whole time with some some really solid performances. The. DTS X track doesn't really do too much with the added channels as this is mainly a dialogue driven film. I would of like to have heard a little more atmosphere throughout the movie but there was never any trouble with understanding the dialogue which was nice and clear.

Great job done by Bale, Carrell, Pitt and others. I have not read the book and was told things may be different from the book, but the historical context to one of the biggest financial crisis in our history was detailed enough through the actions of the traders/investors. The way the movie showed how they investigated all the fraud mortgages by going door to door was enlightening and yet disturbing how people got away with it.

The director ,screen writers and actors have all done a great job during a somewhat hard to explain and tragic story into something enjoyable. You will want to watch this more than once because there are several interlocking stories to follow. Both Steve Carell and Christian Bale do a great job at playing odd but like able versions of real people. The bonus material is something worthy and the reason to buy Blu Ray .

Adam McKay's transition to Drama is a success

The Big Short deals with four individuals who discover something wrong with the banks and the housing market before the enormous 2008 housing market collapse. Instead of using their insight to help out the government, they use it to get rich off of and bet against the general public to fail. Although the subject matter is no laughing joke, Adam McKay's direction makes this movie well paced and sharply executed.

Regardless of how accurate or how detailed its analysis into the 2008 recession, this movie has a great cast and ensemble acting. Cameos for explaining the various mechanisms is hilarious. It draws you in and once you realize just how badly behaving the Wall Street really is, you just can't ignore it or trust it again. Those bankers and investment gurus are just regular greedy folks. We need more movies like this exposing how our institutions are misbehaving.

Explains the fraud at the center of the 2008 financial crises in a way that's entertaining, numerous, and informative. This is not an easy subject to understand but the movie does a great job of explaining it in a way that even a novice can understand. Steve Carell turns in a great performance and proves he's far more than just a comedic actor. Christian Bale is also really good.

Originally I didn't like this movie when I first saw it. I thought it was too slick and smug. But after watching it again, I appreciate how it tells a complex and depressing story in an entertaining way. The great acting across the board doesn't hurt.

An outstanding and surprisingly entertaining angle explaining the hows and whys of the financial crisis caused by the collapse of the housing market. Deservedly nominated for a Best Picture Oscar. I must admit that even though I did not understand everything they were trying to convey, I did understand enough to get the gist of it and to thoroughly enjoy the movie. Highly recommended.

This movie dragged along in some places, not very entertaining. It might be better as a documentary on PBS.

The housing crisis .. uh, I mean The Housing Crisis which led to the Great Recession is becoming a memory to many and is barely even known to many twenty-somethings. The Big Short lays it out how runaway greed and lack of oversight nearly wrecked the world economy. It's a can't stop watching film full of amazing performances. My Best Picture of 2015.

Love that all these movies come with the digital now. Great movie! Well written and acted. It is very important that people understand this stuff, especially with current events. This is a very entertaining way to understand how the world of finance works and is manipulated.

This movie is really well done and has an amazing cast. The dialogue is sharp and the story keeps you on your toes the entire time. It uses creative ways of explaining the plot that are unorthodox. All in all this is a must see film in my opinion.

An all star cast puts together a great movie with a great plot. Millions were affected by the housing market crash and this movie shows another side to the story. Makes you really think and question. Never a dull moment in the movie and uses clever tricks to explain things that may be difficult to understand otherwise. A must see for everyone!

This movie is very interesting and exciting. A great film, a true story, well told, exciting, interesting, and something everyone needs to understand about how our financial world is set up today. Every actor ( Christian Bale, Ryan Gosling, Brad Pitt, Steve Carell) is perfect in their role, and the writing is great too. ABSOLUTELY WATCH IT!

I think what amazed me most was how easy it was for the bottom to drop out. The story told from the point of view for several different people with different motives, agendas and goals was well written and acted and while at times funny most definitely heartfelt about it's passions for the working man and his plight at the hands of banking. I learned a great deal and enjoyed it immensely.
