As a life long baseball fan (GO PHILLIES), who has been playing baseball games since Nintendo Baseball, I was extremely excited when I heard that Nintendo Wii was going to have its first true baseball game. I had downloaded the demo of The Bigs on Xbox 360 and truly enjoyed it. The bigger than life home runs, the 120 mph fastballs, to the sound of bones breaking when you bean someone, this game was the first non realistic sports title I had played since NBA JAM and NHL OPEN ICE and the folks at 2k7 really did a great job on their second baseball title of season. But, that was the Xbox 360 demo version; the Nintendo Wii version falls short in my estimation. I knew the graphics would not compare to that of the Xbox 360, but I did not buy a Nintendo Wii for its graphics.
What I was excited about was the ability to play virtual baseball in my living room and by virtual baseball; I mean swinging my bat (Wii remote) and throwing pitches (Wii remote) just like if I were on the diamond once again. Where this game falls short and becomes a disappointment is the sluggish controls and sometimes unresponsiveness of the Wii remote. The pitching is extremely hard to control, you need twist you had one way and throw forward for one pitch and then turn it the other way for another and despite sitting through the on disk tutorial TWICE, I could not get the pitching down. I chalked this up to just being a part of the learning curve. Well, I said to myself, Tamer, you were never really a pitcher, your strengths were always at the plate, so I stepped up to the plate as the best team in the National League, when not decimated by injuries, the Phillies and had the side struck out, only getting a piece of the ball 3 times. Again, I chalked this up to the learning curve. Next inning, I lead off with the 2006 NL MVP, Ryan Howard and 1-2-3 strikeout, not so unrealistic, but again the side was struck out and I thought to myself, this can not be just me. Well as frustrating as hitting and pitching is, fielding is much worse. I could not make a catch to save my life and forget about throwing to the right base.
In the end, I was very disappointed in The Bigs for Nintendo Wii. What was supposed to be a fun cartoonish larger than life baseball simulation, left this former little leaguer and current coach dejected and frustrated. Hopefully next year’s version will be easier to control and more responsive. But for right now leave the Bigs for Nintendo Wii on the bench.

If you're looking for a fun arcade style baseball game, then this is it for you. While The Bigs is fun to play and hit huge homers and rattle the teeth of the catchers, it is definitely NOT a sim game like MLB 2K anything. If you want a regular old sim game, wait for MLB 2K8 to come out.
In The Bigs you get the feel of an old fashioned arcade game, (remember NeoGeo?) and it's a great way to spend tons of your time. I've had the game 3 weeks now and have yet to play a "real" game. I've spent the time in "Rookie Challenge" building myself into the game and training to be a big Pro. It's great fun and is most definitely addictive.
As for the cons, well the pitching takes some getting used to and after playing a few dozen times, you get the hang of twisting the remote to throw different pitches. Running and sliding are easy, but diving and jumping take some time to get the hang of. The computer definitely knows how to jump since they rob about 60% of the homers you hit. It's cool at first, but gets pretty darn annoying after the 300th time.
All in all, it's a great game and is a ton of fun to play against other people and see their faces as you throw a 115 mph fastball right down the heart of the plate and they swing and miss it.

I couldnt wait for a MLB baseball game to come to the Wii. And I found out it was the Bigs, I have to admit, I was a little disappoinnted. I was hoping for more a sim style baseball game, but the Bigs is any except that.
Now, I knew before purchasing that it was an arcade style game. So I didnt take any stars away for that.
However, the game is ok, but not great. No online, poor AI, 5 inning games, etc. Fun to sit down and play for a few times. But when the computer robs you of your 5th homerun that game, it starts getting old.
I only recommend you buy it if you are a HUGE baseball fan and really, really want an arcade style game.

When i heard about the bigs coming out, I was like "cool, a baseball game for the wii!" so I rushed out and got it. It is fun from time to time, but it has its flaws which really hold it back. For example, runnning. To run in the bigs, u "drum" the wiimote, and hold down the direction of where you want to go. The only problem is, it seems VERY unresponsive. You often times see that instead of running past first base, you actually start headibng to second and not realize it! Or, you're right next to a base, but your player doesn't stand on it. Another thing which is bad about this game is the super catches. For example, you're at bat, you get thrown a meatball (an easy pitch) and you smash it! It's clearly a home run! But wait, an outfielder does a move and jump about 15 feet into the air and catches it! This can seem "cute" at first, but it starts to become annoying, pretty fast. On the good side, it is a solid Baseball game, where the pitching and hitting IS solid. So, if you're a big fan of baseball, go ahead! Buy it! But if you're not so much a fan, I'd reccommend renting it first.

This game is a lot of fun. Although base running is pretty tough and pitching the pitches where you need to curve your wrist are hard, the game is still a lot of fun. It's one of those games where you play every once and a while with your friends but have a lot of fun doing it.

The Bigs is one of my favorite games because I love pretending to be Albert Pujols. If you like baseball you'll love this game because it's got all your favoite players. It's just like swinging a real bat at the plate. My favorite part of the game is when you achieve a power blast while hitting.
