The movie was very good but its nothing new that we have not seen before in other tellings of life during slavery times. I will say the movie moved a lil fast thru some scenes and didnt give you a lot of depth to some of its characters. I understand that trying to bring a actual character to screen without much source material can be challenging. But would have loved to see more into the lives of some characters. Also its worth a look at how things could have changed for this country by the acts of the people in the film trying to overcome oppression. Still gives a sense of the struggles my ancestors had to go thru.

Movie tells the history and suffering of Blacks during slavery. And how one man, Nate Turner refused to accept the status quo. He lead the first revolt by slaves, although it was successful, it helped established the underground railroad.

This is an EXCELLENT movie, especially from an historical perspective!! I would highly recommend it to anyone. It would be very good to show and discuss with your children and the history of the United States that led to the Civil War!!

This is a great movie that provides part of our American history that everyone should know and learn about. The extras were also very educational and informative. This movie can be used as a teaching tool as part of a history course.

This young black director outdid himself. I don't ordinarily listen to the directors commentary, but did this time. Glad I did. He is really on point and did a good job in telling / showing a very difficult piece of American history.

I heard so much about this movie I had to see and create my own opinion. After watching i, I sat back and tried to understand the outrage. There wasn't any more cursing, use of the N word then Quentin Tarrantino. The movie itself was enjoyable and a pleasant surprise. Very graphic and very detailed. Overall it was worth watching.

This is a great movie. One of the few films that actually has the unapologetic spirit of brave intelligent American Africans! Plus it has no inserted white savior. Respect to Nate Parker! Much respect & Rest In Peace to Nat Turner!

A moving and enlightening depiction of strength, perseverance, and love for ones self, family, and culture. Though not totally historically accurate this is a great movie to peak young children's and young adults interest in American history and a great way to encourage them to delve into research on other historical events!

This is a great film that looks into the life of Nat Turner. It sheds light on his upbringing and background (parents and wife). It also shows the horrible conditions that slaves during that time endured. Overall great film!!!!!

A very good perspective on a untold historical event. I was enlightened and had a broader view on how injustice can spiral into violence of infamous proportion even among deep convictions to love thy neighbor. A RUDE AWAKENING

The story of Nat Turner had been taught in schools but it has never been seen like this! The desire for freedom drives this movie and should be watched by this generation of black people who have forgotten their history.

I have done a lot of research on Nat Turner, so I was already familiar with his story but this movie was very well done, even though it was pretty underrated by critics. It's definitely a movie everyone should check out.

My wife and I were able to see this movie in our local movie theater and were happy we were able to purchase it at a good price from BestBuy and we are looking forward to watching it as often as we want.

Powerful film... It's based on the true story Nat Turner, and the "based on" part is always important to keep in mind. While it may not be 100% historically accurate in every single frame, the spirit of the film and of the era it represents is definitely there. This film is important for all people to see.

Really good film. The talent on display from the lead actor/director is impressive. Worth a watch for sure. This story about Nat Turner’s life was gripping.

Purchased to watch for a report in a American studies course - this movie is GRITTY and you'll definitely cringe! But the movie evokes emotions and makes you think.

The original movie of this title was one of the Ku Klux Klan’s traditional recruiting tools, so it is great to see an African-American director reclaim the name tell the story of the oppressed.
