My brother-in-law introduced me to The Clash with the album LONDON CALLING, which is now my favorite CD of the few thousand that I own. I'm starting to pick up the rest of their catalog. This is a fantastic debut album. You gotta get the British version instead of the US version. The british version has a better track listing.

If I was stranded on a desert Island and could only have 3 Albums (I'm showing my age!!) they would be: 1. The Clash 2. The Clash 3. The Clash This UK version, of course. this was the way the LP was made, and has a continuity of sound the USA version does not. The remastering removes none of the raw - and I do mean RAW - production .... this is a plus. Joe Strummer's anger and passion come at you so fiercely that you can feel the spittle ejecting from the speakers as his raspy voice crys for justice in an unjust world. Surely, songs like "Career Opportunities" "Hate and War" and "Police and Thieves" are more relevant in today's world instead of less. If you get 1 Clash item ever, or for that matter 1 musical item ever, this is it !!! The penultimate in music with meaning.

WITHOUT THIS ALBUM! This is where the angst and intensity of the punk movement in England met up with more mainstream musical sensibilities. All of the songs' topics (American imperialism, joblessness, drug addiction) are every bit as relevant today as they were when they were written over 30 years ago. Every song is superbly well-crafted, performed, recorded and mixed: from the searing guitar lead of "White Riot" to the haunting back-up vocals in "Deny"; from the basswork during the guitar lead of "48 Hours" to the snarling vocal delivery of "Garageland", this album is simply brilliant.
