It's a scary movie. Not the corny bloodbath scary movies.

Classic haunted house story, with great directing.

As the first in the conjuring films this one leads the future of the franchise if there's one. After seeing the conjuring 2 I wanted to see what was the first movie about. I found this too was a surprise at every corner as you could sense something was going to happen to scare the wits out of you. Sometimes it did and other times it didn't thanks to a very smart director who made this movie very suspenseful from beginning to end. Some scenes are scary but overall it was worth the price I paid which was on sale. Definitely recommend this one if you like movies dealing with ghosts and evil spirits.

Phenomenal horror movie. Eery sets, great utilization of the dark, phenomenal sound (must be experienced in surround sound or with quality head phones). There are very few "cheap scares" and barely any blood/gore. There is a constant state of trepidation throughout the film, and the true horror comes from your imagination conjuring up images of what's happening off of the screen (which is often a result of the terrific audio). If you're a horror buff, this is a must see. If you can appreciate a good film in general, this is still a great movie. Don't think it can't be a quality film just because it's a horror movie.

This movie has all scares that a good horror movie needs to be a classic ... this film is very well made by the guy that brought you Saw [James Wan] he has become a master of horror with this entry ... the movie itself is about a family that moves into a house and strange things start to happen ... but this is not the same old story ... It is a real good ride of a movie a lot of edge of your seat moments and also a lot of jumps ... the blu ray has a ton of extras that help tell the true story behind the movie ... well worth a look ... if your a fan of real horror you wont be dissatisfied ... Highly Recommended !!!

This movie received great reviews from both critics and moviegoers. James Wan made a masterpiece with the first Conjuring and may have even outdone himself with the sequel that is equally as scary. Great story, characters you can relate to, and lots of scares that will make you jump. I rarely buy blu-rays since I have netflix but this was a must-have for my home collection.

I really liked this movie for several reasons, 1 being it's a true story. 2, it's not your typical horror/thriller movie. 3, it had a storyline a meaning behind it. It's not just some nonsens put together. 4, good prevails over evil, God wins and doesn't look weak as so many Hollywood movies like to portray Him to be. It's a really good movie and I believe it's worth seeing and owning. It also is a reminder that the evil one and his demons live on this earth and want to destroy God's people whether they believe in Him or not and He is always there to help us if we just call on Him.

I don't usually go for screamers and scares, but this movie really brought you into the story. They didnt just concentrate on scare after scare, but anger, sadness, frustration and then all-out crazy fear. Great story line, well-acted, and just right on scenery and environment. I truly felt immersed in these characters lives, which is very hard to come by. Highly recommended!

In the day and age of the gorror (as opposed to horror) films it is fantastic to see a movie that has the jumps and genuinely smartly moments. Not since I saw the exorcist when I was a small child was I this afraid of a movie. On top of it all I used to live very close to where that house was in Rhode Island. The scares were scary, the cast played the roles to perfection. All done without a single gory scene. I love this movie and will watch again and again.

"The Conjuring" is a high class horror film, its hard not to be scared by it, we care for the characters and the story is compelling enough to make you feel interested the whole time. I loved that it takes place in the 70's. This film it's made to become a new classic in the horror genre, not only because it's quality, but because it's fright factor. "The Conjuring" is an exceptional piece of film that pulls all the right stops to frighten the audience, leaving a lasting impression on your mind as well the recently tired genre of horror.

My wife and I are into scary stuff. We LOVE watching scary stuff, playing scary games, etc. I suppose this tolerance for scary stuff makes it hard to enjoy something unless it scares you, but the Conjuring truly surprised me. It did a great job at keeping us entertained, making us want to see what happened next, It is a great film if you are looking for some horror in your life. Enjoy with a date or by yourself. Also, it is only rated R for horror there are no wear words or anything like that. (in case you were wondering)

This movie is great for horror fans and fans of scary, tense movies. The plot is based on "true events" based on the exploits of the Warrens but are wholly fictitious unless you are true believers. The script is well written, the acting is good, the scares and the shots are good. For horror fans or fans of the genre it is a truly well put together film. It is a fun film to watch for those who like to watch scary movies and is better in groups. Although by yourself it can be scarier. Recommended on the atmosphere alone.

I love a good horror story, and I absolutely love TRUE horror stories. This one fits the bill! I watched the weekend before halloween with my two teenage boys, and we all jumped at least a time or two during the movie. I scared my 15 year old with some reenactments from the film for the next week (think of Dad coming in your room after lights-out and banging his head on your closet door - you'll know what this means when you see the movie). I highly recommend this movie to anyone who likes paranormal, true stories!

This movie kept my interest and definitely had some "scary" scenes; it's worth watching if you love scary movies.Believe it or not, this thing earned the R rating; now don't get too overhyped or anything, the R rating was for suspenseful and intensely "scary" scenes; not usual gore scenes, not really for language either. Personally didn't jump in my seat or want to cover my eyes (though many scenes are quite chilling), but plenty of people around me did. Acting was ok to pretty good, Cinematics were about the same. Not anything visually stunning. All in all if you like scary movies, definately see this movie.

Sometime in the late 70's or early 80's, the definition of "Horror" movie went from "scarey" to "gory". While I enjoy a good gory horror flick, I long for the days when a film just outright scared me. The Conjuring was one of those movies that wasn't bloody but did create an atmosphere of fear. If you're looking for a pretty good way to pass a few hours in the dark, this movie will definitely work.

The Conjuring was a dark intense horror film with great camera work. The director from this film also directed Insidious (I believe). Acting was great and the scary scenes were not the typical ones you see in most horror flicks. Based on a true story, the movie is well made. There are at least 3 scenes where I got chills all over my body (and I don't easily get spooked). The camera work was amazing just like in Insidious but I thought this movie was scarier.

Anxiety and terror felt. That about sums up what this genre is all about. It's been awhile where a movie doesn't depend on gore, and violence to get the audience involved. Conjuring takes a step back from all the current trend of scare movies and puts fear back into film by not only sound effects but the lack there of. Sometimes silence in film can be just a scary as the POP OUT of nowhere scream or boom, Seriously it's worth a watch and if your a fan of the genre it is most definitely worth adding to your collection.
