I am not a horror fan by any means, but when a big studio horror movie scores an 85%+ on Rotten Tomatoes and makes more than $40 million on its opening weekend, you don't have much of a choice but to check it out. And man, this movie scared the s**t out of me. Frightening and haunting but cinematic and artful, this film pulls no cheap tricks. Every second of The Conjuring is dread and will give you legitimate, up-all-night scares.

I am a horror fanatic and I am always on the hunt for a truly scary movie. I have not found one yet altho this movie was very good! The first 45 minutes I knew there were parts that would scare "regular" people so I was starting to think it was just another movie for me. But then.....it did get a little scary so I was very impressed. I definitely recommend it. The acting was great and the whole story line was pretty good. That doll was freaky!!!!

This is one of the best horror movies I've ever seen. It's not just a horror movie but it has a good strong story too with great characters. It has lots of creepy elements that build good suspense. The characters actually feel real and have great chemistry with each other. Good horror movies are far and few between but this is definitely a good one. I would recommend to anyone looking for a good horror movie.

Of the best movies about ghosts and possessed houses. Its 80 'movie atmosphere leaves the viewer ripping their own clothes off their nerves. With its focused and simple plot, it makes you part of the family and makes you suffer as much as the characters.

THE CONJURING is the most effective thriller I've seen in many years. It genuinely leaves the viewer spooked out. It is based (to an extent) on a true case and that only makes it all the more haunting. Great acting from everyone, great cinematography, and a good spooky story make this one of the most memorable horror tales in years. The extras on this great Blu Ray include current conversations with the REAL Lorraine Warren and members of the family who were haunted and terrified for many years as they lived in that house.

Horror may be the toughest movie genre to actually pull off a great film. Think about it, if you were asked to state your favorite movies, almost nobody would say a horror film. Somehow, James Wan was able to pull off a fantastic movie. Great suspense, a great score, and very intense moments sprinkled throughout the movie make it one of the best horror movies in a long time.

My wife and I love horror movies but we don't get scared by many, her more so than I. But this movie, the way it plays to the audience, based on a true story, and that you can't see the evil, really does start to freak you out. I jumped a couple times. Its a very well done movie! Highly recommend. I also recommend the sequel/prequel in the theaters, really good!

First off this movie just feels really high quality, not like the low end junk the horror genre is normally subjected to. And yes it's a jump scare ghost story but it's done so well it won't matter if parts are clichéd or not. Make sure the crank up the sound to envelop yourself in it. Highly recommended.

I didn't expect this movie to be as good as it was, it was clever and scary! It was like two stories in one, the story of Annabelle and that of the haunted house, intertwined around 2 paranormal investigators and a typical family. This movie made me eager to see the follow-up prequel called "Annabelle", which was just another B movie that I recommend you avoid.

The acting by Lily Taylor is incredible and Director James Wan puts a great spin on this true tale of a New Hampshire haunting. Wan definitely did his research and incorporates many camera angles to draw the viewing into the dark visuals and feelings of the characters. I did not find the movie as frightening as it was billed yet I did find it suspenseful and definitely worth the watch! I was lucky to get this at an awesome price during the Black Friday Doorbuster sale this year!

Never saw this coming. I like ghost stories with great atmosphere and tension and this movie delivers. It does not rely on gore and jump scares to carry it and you get sucked in to the story before you know it. It was creepy and scared me a number of times throughout. That is the sign of a truly good movie. Also, see Insidious 1&2 as well (directed by the same person).

The Conjuring takes the time to build the characters really well but where most films make that boring, this one makes some of the character building sections some of the best parts of the entire film. The direction is so clear and controlled and expertly executed. The interviews with the real people the story is based on was really good and a very nice inclusion.

Movie was great. Scary surprises and great acting. The special effects were very scary and real. The characters were great and the actors were perfectly selected. My faborite part is the music. The music makes it so much scarier and its very different. Love that its based on atrue story of course. No typical exorcism head spinning stuff. Very different.

I had watched a couple youtube videos of the oldest daughter giving her accounts of events that happened to the family, and I had to see this movie. I watched an interview with Lorraine about this movie, and she stated she was very pleased with the movie and stated the events were portrayed very well. I bought the movie and really enjoyed it. I now want to learn more about Ed and Lorraine. I highly recommend the sequel, too.

James Wan is probably one of my favorite horror directors. He just knows how to make a good horror film, and that is exactly what The Conjuring is. It doesn't rely too much on jump scares, which most films do today. It also has a good atmosphere that near the end was successful in creeping me out, which is hard to do after watching so many horror films.

With all of those bad horror films out there, this one is a huge relief. New twists mixed with the classic shock scares throughout make this movie a must watch. It is VERY CREEPY, especially being based on a true story. PLEASE WATCH ON 4K TV WITH A SURROUND SOUND....INCREDIBLE EXPERIENCE!

Went into this one with low expectations. After being surprised by Insidious, I wasn't sure James Wan could go 2 for 2. I was surprised again. The scares and jumps were top notch. The plot was thin in spots, but was able to overcome that. I thought Lily Taylor did a great job. She was convincing as the tortured mother. Sound and picture were very good. If you have a good system, turn it up and get the most out of the jumps. Recommended.

I absolutely love this movie! Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga are great as Ed and Lorraine Warren helping a family being tormented by demonic beings. Worth watching over and over again!

If you want to see a truly SCARY movie, but not a GORY movie, then this is the movie for you. It is rated R because it is truly scary. You will jump several times! It is a great story and great cast. The director, James Wan, wrote and directed many great scary movies already (Saw and the Insidious movies). Highly recommended purchase!!!

A well done horror movie that will make you jump from your seat numerous times. The plot is based on a true story and has a good pacing that will keep you engaged throughout. Rated R, but not for too much violence, nudity, or profanity. Just good scares, which definitely says something for itself.
