The Danish Girl, based on a true story, is a ravishing love story of self discovery. Yet with all the great costume and set design and an incredible performance by Eddie Redmyne, it's lead actress Alicia Vakander is the show stealer! Alicia's heartbreaking journey to stand by the love of her life and truly accept and assist her husbands transformation is one of the most endearing yet painful and emotional performances I've witnessed in quite some time! It's no wonder she won her Academy Award for this performance.

This movie turned out to be great. Mind you it's not for narrow minded people or young children but it's a unique view of a married mans life during his rise from interest in being a woman on his way to actually becoming one. All of that goes on well before people were anywhere near our current level of acceptance of transgender now a days. If your into movies that push the boundaries and have complicated emotions this might be for you.

Didn't see this until I picked up the BluRay at Best Buy. I can see why this film piled up the nominations. It's VERY well written and VERY well acted. But it's not for every taste, and it's a bit predictable in places. Still, Definitely worth a look. Looks great on Blu Ray, good set of special features if you want to dig more deeply into the story that inspired this film.

Heartfelt, controversial, emotionally engaging film about a male who transitions to a woman. That this true story takes place nearly a century ago is a remarkable testament to the human spirits determination to rise above the mores and prejudices of the day. Like all good films, our empathy is engaged toward the characters. In this case a husband and wife whose lives are changed forever.

The Danish Girl tells the story of the 1st man who did whatever it take to feel himself. Trap inside a mans body for so long but being Lili his entire life. This Film its hard broking and sad, because you can see how society hasn't evolved since the 1st man who change his "body" to a women.

The Danish Girl is a beautiful period film based on a true story: the first trans male to female operation in history. The movie has stunning costumes, sets, gorgeous cinematography, and an enriching score. The acting is top notch. The Danish Girl had many award nominations and wins during it's theatrical release.

THE CAST SYSTEM OF PEDIGREE AND FAMILY STANDING SHOWS IT'S UGLY DEMEANOR. A LOVE STORY BEAUTIFUL EXECUTED, WHEN THE MAIN CHARACTER NATASHA TRIES TO FIND LOVE AND PURPOSE IN LIFE. ALL THE ACTORS HAVE TO GO THROUGH THEIR OWN DIFFICULT TIMES TO FIND THEIR WAY. GREAT CLASSIC RE-CREATION.

Eddie Redmanye is one of the best actors of our time. His performance is definitely Oscar material. Alicia Vikander is a revelation as the wife of the first documented transgendered person. Definitely deserved her Oscar! Great acting, great story, great movie of courage!! A MUST SEE!!!!

Redmayne should've won the Oscar for such a spectacular performance, but, hey, Leo's been waiting a long time. LOL! Beautiful heartwarming inspiring movie through & through. I'm glad we're seeing some more TLGB history.

This is one of the best pictures I have seen in a very long time. Eddy's acting and portrayal of this character was amazing. No wonder he got a Academy Award! This story is one that will last a long time in my memories. Well written. This really is a must see!

Great period costumes and a subject matter tabooed for far too many years. From my perspective it demonstrated the birth of a new era that unlike my own desires portrayed a view into another's life and time in a poignant manner.

Almost all of the acting is splendid.The most important sense we gain from this long movie is the strength of character of both Gerda and Einear/Lili as played with consummate skill By Alicia Vikander and Eddie Redmayne.

This was a beautifully done movie, and Eddie Redmayne and Alicia Viklander (forgive me if I misspell that!!) were outstanding in the retelling of a story that could be clipped from the headlines today. So very glad they made this movie

The acting in this film is absolutely spectacular, but story itself did not do much for me. I sadly felt much more for the wife than I did the "husband" based on the way they presented the narrative.

I've been waiting decades for this story to be told in film. Historic for my culture. Learning about or our modern pioneers, with all the hatred showed today it was refreshing to see her so excepted.

This movie was an inspiration to artistry and the real lives of Gertrude Wrengner and Her Husband going through a life changing/anatomy altering experience from being a Man to the first Woman in Transgender Surgery!

A superb film about the struggles of one person to become the person inside...Of caring, emotional love and support. Accurate historical references and depictions are spot on. Superbly acted and presented.

This movie is amazing and hits home for lots of people now days. It will have you smiling and laughing then in tears. The actors and actress are very well picked, and fit the roles perfectly.

Eddy Redmain is perhaps one of the greatest actors. In The Danish Girl, he portrays the man who becomes the first transgender male to female. Great story beautifully portrayed by two great actors.
