This is an updated version of the old B&W version of the same title. I like the neat twist at the end which is significantly different and refreshing from the original. Call me old fashioned, but I still prefer the original which is why this got four instead of five stars.

A surprise plot for a science fiction movie in that the environment takes a role in the salvation of the Earth as an alien race believes to save the Earth, the human race must be exterminated.

A perfect example of a movie that should never have been remade. Murky , unsatisfying remake of a classic that was better left untouched ! Only saving grace is that a copy of the Michael Rennie 1951 original is included in this 2 disc set.

I love that both the old and new version are included. Personally, I like the old version better. The new version is ok, just not the same though. It is a good buy for what you get!

While the re-make is newer and a little different in filming the movie is an overall good purchase

Good movie to sit back and enjoy. Don't forget the popcorn.

Good sci-fi w/ suspense film. Good acting from Keanu.

I did not realize when I ordered this disc, that I was going to get both the original version of the movie I ordered and the remake. That was a nice surprise.

This thriller does not disappoint with twists and turns to an amazing outcome. It is a must see!

It's a decent remake of an old classic movie......

I was very disappointed that the plot for this movie did not stick to that of the original classic movie. The acting, special effects, and the imagery were very good; however, they did not make up for a disappointing theme and/or plot. The main theme of the original classic was centered on the violence in the world at that time. The threat of nuclear war being extended into space was something that Klatu's federation of planets could not tolerate. Klatu's mission was to communicate with world leaders to make peace with one another and to stop all world violence, first of all, and then back that up with the ultimatum stating that if earth continued on its present course of violence it would be reduced to a burned out cinder. The original character Klatu was an exterrestrial human being and not an alien lifeform living in a cloned human form. This new version changes all of that for the worse by making it a political statement about the earth's enviornmental problems rather than the message it originally intended to convey. I strenously object to these changes and I feel that it is a tragic mistake to remake classics for this purpose. I perfer that all of these classic movies be remade in a manner that is true to the orginal plot without remaking them into a comedy or as some sort of politcal statement, contrary ot its original script. There are several recent original movies which have focused my attention on the urgent status of our enviornment and my favorite one is "The Day After Tommorrow". The enviornment message is for new movies. This film maker had crossed the line when the plot and storyline departed from the orignal. In my opinion this movie is not a remake of the orignal movie and should not be counted as such. I'm sure that there are science fiction screen writers out there who could do a much better job of writing a better, more up-to-date, and more accurate version of the original "The Day the Earth Stood Still" rather than this newer Pseudo or counterfeit version. My advice to Hollywood is that they should never butcher or desecrate a classic film in this manner ever again.

When I heard that Hollywood was going to do a remake of the 1951 Classic, The Day the Earth Stood Still, I was thrilled. 50 plus years have passed and the technology that Hollywood has now is so advanced. I thought that with current Special Effects and CGI that this is going to be a Blockbuster movie. Instead Keanu Reeves probably got paid 20 million dollars and Hollywood turned out a dud. This could have been a Blockbuster if Hollywood would have been more creative. It's worth watching once, that's it. But if you want this DVD for you collection, wait. It won't be long before this DVD is in the Bargain basement DVD bin at a store near you.

I remember seeing previews for this in the theater and thinking it looked great! It was a good movie but the modern special effects are all that made it better than the original.

Great movie if you like special effects or Keanu Reeves, like the original 1951 movie it feels a bit anti-climatic. However overall it was a good movie.

This was a outstanding movie with great CGI and a nice plot. It did not follow the exact same story line of the original movie and it was very fresh. Plus you get the original film on DVD.

There was no suspense or thrill to the movie. It just didn’t grab my attention. Very predictable. Couldn’t wait till the end.
