I was inspired to get this after I watched a live show of Tommy James performing some of his greatest hits on youtube. All of these songs were present. As a fan of the 60's (I'm only 27), I decided to get it and haven't regretted it.

There wasn't a single song I wanted to hear from Tommy James and the Shondells that wasn't on this CD. A really good representation of their hits, took me back to the innocence of the 60's.

Yet another great CD at an affordable price! I plan on checking the lowest price CD's on my next visit. Great music!

This CD is a greatest hits compilation of the band Tommy James and the Shondells. And what a surprising number of great hits! From the opening riffs of Hanky Panky (1966 fun music with amazing beat and a playful lyric twist) to the blusey downbeat of Draggin' the Line (1971 - complete with horn section) these 12 songs are a pleasure to listen to. Surprises include I Think We're Alone Now and Mony Mony, but the real delight are the pair of songs from1968 - Crimson and Clover (what amazing use of echo and Crystal Blue Persuasion. Have fun.

Tommy James and the Shondells had two phases in their career, and both brought forth popular songs you didn't forget. On this CD the pop-rock phase is covered from Hanky Panky((1966) to Mony Mony(1968). Their sudden 1968 turn, to what the album notes call psychedelic "relevance", is covered with Crimson and Clover through their fading away with She (1969). Tommy James had one more solo hit (#4) in 1971, Draggin' The Line from the album Christian of the World, which appropriately is the last cut on this CD. A mark of good music is how many later artists do covers of your songs. Tommy Jame's songs have been covered by such stars as Joan Jett, Billy Idol, Tiffany, and I thing Bon Jovi screwed up one or two. If you're a fan of the great songs of the '60s, this CD is a must.

I've always liked Tommy James and the Shondells. The essentials has all their best songs on it. I Highly recommend it.

I consider myself somewhat of a musicologist, and I'm always looking for music to fill out my collection. At this point, I could start my own radio station, and never hear the same song twice in a year. I bought this CD because my mother had a 45 of "Hanky Panky" that I wore out as a child, but I had forgotten how many hit songs that Tommy James and the Shondells actually produced. And they're not just pop hits, they are quality songs with great lyrics and great music that have been covered by many other musicians who recognized their impact. This is truly a "Best of..." collection with very few clunkers, if any.

Several classic songs ,some I don't remember, all in all a worthwhile purchase.
