I was a bit skeptical about this game because I saw that it had black bars during the entire duration of the game. I thought that this would take me out of the immersion of the game, but it felt like I was playing a horror movie once I started to play. I decided to buy this game when it went on sale at my local Best Buy, and I'm glad I did because this game is great. It has great sound effects, great graphics (once you get past the goofy ambulance scene at the beginning, and now they even recently patched the game to remove the black bars and make it fullscreen, so it looks even better than before. Thanks for putting this game on sale Best Buy, because if not, then I probably wouldn't have experienced this game yet. I highly recommend that you guys buy this game.

Different gameplay than is customary this day in age but The Evil Within has enough story and puzzle elements to get your money's worth. I love the dreary atmosphere. I'd recommend this game to anyone!

These are my only two problems with the game. CON - Performance Issues First things first: this game doesn't run too well. On PS4, its framerate is below 30 most of the time giving it a slight stutter when the game gets hectic. CON - Instant Deaths This is more of an annoyance. Certain situations result in an instant death for the player. While it adds to the challenge and it never appears too often, it's certainly still frustrating to get killed with one hit time after time. PRO - Fun gameplay with an interesting setting. Game is made by Shinji Mikami(Resident Evil) and it has very fun design. The art direction is awesome and genuinely creepy.

I haven't had a chance to play very much, so far the graphics are great but the game is very difficult even on a medium setting. Requires stealth and I need to adjust my gaming style.

I haven't played through the entire game yet, and there is a reason for that. The graphics are awesome and the storyline is very compelling. However, due to "artistic" reasons the screen aspect ratio is 2.35:1 so there are large black bars at the top and bottom of the screen; which not only makes the screen smaller on your TV but causes the game play to suffer because you are unable to see at certain angles. You can't change the aspect ratio unless you are playing on PC. The game is fun enough to get past that though.

Got this during blackfriday sale. Honestly i was expecting more from the man responsible for the resident evil series. The gameplay and atmosphere/setting are very similar but this game is difficult. Not a dark souls kind of difficult that penalizes you for being unprepared, but a "hey theres a boss battle coming up. They are bullet sponges and by the way take no ammo or health refills" type of difficult. Plus the weird forced aspect ratio is tough getting used to. C

I love Horror movies. So the idea of 'playing' a horror movie is beyond awesome. The original Silent Hill games creeped me out so much I had a friend play them while I watched. The Evil Within is definitely a great addition to the Survival Horror genre and the increasing trend / influx of those kinds of games. It has a solid storyline which is important (even if it may be far fetched at times). Replay value is moderate, but you will enjoy (and fear) every minute you spend with The Evil Within.

Aside from the graphics, this was a really great game. The -1 start is specifically for the graphics. My girlfriend plays it more than I do, but I love to watch. It's like watching a horror movie with non stop action. This game really challenges a gamers patience as you are forced to sneak around which can be relatively time consuming, which I do not mind. I can't wait to start playing this game again but I have way too much to choose from at this point. Great horror game at a fair price.

I was pretty excited when this was announced, being a huge fan of almost everything Bethesda has released. However, horror has never been their style so I was skeptical how it would turn out. Well, they managed to make it work. Definitely one of the better horror themed games released in recent years, I miss the old days of games with some real spook factor but that could just be me getting older and desensitized. Fun game, definitely worth the Black Friday price I paid for it.

This game is really good so far and is pretty gorey. Not recommended for younger kids as some of the content is pretty disturbing. The story is good so far and almost had a silent hill feel to the gameplay.

It is an extremely sick and gruesome game however ...I would def. Recommend this game to horror fans :D Graphics are insanely on point and great story line. Bought it as a gift and they love it :D.

I like the story line and how scary the game can be at times. However, certain parts can be difficult.

The game has a dark and creepy feel similar to Resident Evil 4 (one of my favorite survival horror games). The frame feels inconsistent and the black bars on the top and bottom of the screen can be distracting at times. The auto-save is not very good so get used to backtracking quite a bit if you die. Combat is fun paired with a great upgrade system. - PS4

Visually appealing and the story is pretty good. The scariness of the game will haunt you!

Pretty decent game and challenging. The atmosphere is intense and the mechanics work well.

First off, this is one super bloody and intensly violent game. Second, the story and characters fit the games' overall twisted world, and I love how solid the overall game feels. However, I'm not a fan of the camera or the combat. The visuals aren't exactly next gen, but that's not a big issue for me, as the game offers plenty of bloody and disturbing images. Overall the game is very solid and just in time for Halloween.

Before I purchased this game, I saw people's reactions and I thought it was over dramatic. After playing this game for a few days on a 55" TV in the dark with stereo speakers, I don't think anyone can go to sleep so calmly. I played this game for about a week, and I can honestly say that this game gives me the thril,a and chills and excitement. As scary as this game may be, I really enjoy it. I play this game on hard to get the full experience. This game can be put to normal, but once it's on normal, it cannot go back up to hard. So I've decided to play it on hard until I canno longer handle the scare, lol.

The Evil Within, Oooohhh boy!!!, I got hooked since the moment I started reviewing videos about The Evil Within, this is an awesome game, horror and zombies are among my favorites, but this one has been one of the most terrifying games I've played. I usually play it at night just for the fun of it. Great storyline too. Is the kind of games that once you've finished you want to start it all over again.

If you like Resident evil games I think you will really like this game, It's a smart well designed game with tons of horror elements. The story will keep you wanting to play the game since it's a very mysterious game.I took off one star because the game could have been a little more polished on the frame rate department, luckily is only a small portion of the game in the begging.

If you want a easy fun game this is not it. I got it when the price came down do to the reviews of other customers. It is a great game just very hard. The people who made this game made it this way. I enjoyed it a lot for the price of $20 bucks that I paid I would buy again. At $60 I would have been a little made do to the difficulty of it. But overall I would give a 8-10 stars.
