Great film . Didn’t realize it was gunna be the way it was , but def worth the buy . Reccomened !

For a film from '05 about exorcism and being able to portray a different angle of telling a story through law and order. You have to respect that. The contortions that Jennifer Carpenter put herself through was spectacular acting. All in all a great film to revisit and a worthy purchase.

Instant horror classic , modern day excorsist. Don’t watch alone

I want to comment on how the film appears in blu ray. It is absolutely astounding. The 1080p high def picture is crystal clear and the truehd audio will blow you away. This must be viewed with a 5.1 theater system. I have seen this film many times and the clarity in blu ray makes the courtroom scenes seem as if I am watching a play and the actors are in my room. The film does manage to expertly show the progression of Emily Rose's deterioration and if you view it with blu ray and a theater system the sound will have you on the edge of your seat and jumping out of your skin. (Important note, if you watch Dextar, it is great fun to see Jennifer Carpenter as Emily Rose. She is superb.) Blu ray allows the viewer to see the emotions of the actos much more clearly. Laura Linney is the attorney defending the priest accused of Emily's death and she is at first a self professed agnostic. But the film is largely about how the whole affair affects her. At the end she is very troubled and doesn't know what she is. But her life is totally changed. Even with all the great acting the film in my opinion belongs to Laura Linney and Jennifer Carpenter. As for the film THE EXORCIST was a story that had the exorcism and gore galore in the forefront with the story of its characters in the background. THE EXORCISM OF EMILY ROSE is about an exorcism with the strong story in the forefront. This is a 5 star film. We have three of the best actors of this decade - Laura Linney, Tom Wilkinson and Scott Campbell. These are hardcore actors and each tackles their role with strong intensity. If you want a standard B horror film with blood and gore this film is not for you. This film is an insightful, intelligent courtroom drama about a very unique case and it is scary, suspenseful, troubling and dramatic but for different reasons. Excellent film and even if you own the dvd you MUST purchase it on blu ray. It is a demonstration of blu ray at its best.

The nineteen years old Catholic college girl Emily Rose dies a couple of days after being submitted to an exorcism carried out by her parish priest, Father Moore. Emily believed she was possessed by six demons, and although authorized by Emily and he parents, Father Moore is accused of negligent homicide, since he had suggested Emily to interrupt the use of medications for epilepsy. In order to avoid a scandal, the Archdiocese hires the successful, ambitious and agnostic lawyer Erin Bruner, and the prosecution assigns the religious prosecutor Ethan Thomas. Along the days, there is a battle between science and religion in the court. There are some very interesting scenes in this movie, that find ways to express things in subtle and creative ways without spelling them out. And an incredible performance by Jennifer Carpenter. This is not a full-blooded horror movie, but definitely one of the most unsettling, disturbing and thought-provoking dramas, seeing Emily possessed is terrifying. Highly recommended.

The film is based on events which took place back in the 70's; the possession of the young girl Anneliese Michel, who was possessed by several demons. now I enjoy horror movies that are realistic and creepy. It has been a long time since I have seen a movie that really scared me. I watched this movie and was quite impressed. I actually got creeped out to the point where my boyfriend was sleeping on the couch and I still cuddled up to him! This movie is about law and exorcism. It back tracks through the eyes of another what happened with Emily Rose. There are parts of the movie that you are not expecting things to happen and you do jump. Other parts of the movie are just down right creepy and leaves you wondering "my this is based on a true story" and pondering "if" questions in your mind. I highly recommend you see this movie if you are like creepy movies! Just remember to watch it with someone lol

This movie is based on a true story that is supposed to test your resolve, and ultimately your faith. Emily Rose who was a ordinary teenage girl who was supposed to be the target of terrifying demonic attacks, but was she as many believe possessed, or just a moody teenager that did not get out much ,who need something else in her apart from demons?The choice is yours. as a film it does fall between two stools, half is a supernatural exorcist light, the other is a court room drama. Even so, strangely enough the film works, being able to be both scary as hell and gripping. Never is the film as disturbing as the Exorcist, but this has to be one of the best possession movies in a very long time. A very good and un-nerving thriller, that may not test your faith, but will give you something to think about after the movie has ended.

This film has could be called of the 'court room Exorcist', most of the story is told in vivid witness flash backs, I would highly recommended this film if you like strong character based horror supported by some really convincing acting. A disturbing account of demonic possession, this case had to go through the court system to save a priests liberty. The Blue-ray picture quality is good, but I have seen much better. This is not the best disc to add to your collection to show of the superior quality of HD but I would highly recommend this film!

I have never seen The Exorcist, so this is my first movie with exorcism and I found it quite bone-chilling at times. The fact that it takes a major religion and involves superstitions and strong beliefs to create the horror is what is an element that makes this movie strong. It's spiritually creepy. The lead actress does a great job as acting possessed and quite repulsive/scary shamelessly. It's convincing as her role as the possessed college girl.

This movie may not have those dirty bloody, ghostly scenes but it somehow scared me, its more closer to "could be reality" if you like to watch Catholic demons beliefs religiously go for it. I give all stars:) Have fun while watching it late nite.

Watch the movie and find out for yourself. This movie is more of a Psychological thriller with some religous elements thrown in than being a horror movie. That being said, it had its elements that were disturbing and spooky. Very well done and a good watch. Not too many extras on the dvd.
