I've always loved this movie. The plot is incredible and open to multiple perspectives of interpretation. Consider that all that all of the timelines presented may not be reality and only metaphoric. I am usually not big on watching the bonus features, but I am glad I did for this movie. Learning that there was nearly zero CG effects in this movie is incredible considering the intense, vivid imagery in the movie. Buy it, you won't regret it.

Saw this after having a very heartbreaking loss in my life and this helped me on the very long road to coming back and being somewhat close to normal after it.

The Fountain is a truly unique and beautiful film. It's an intelligent film--it requires your full attention, so that you can absorb all the symbolism, the spirituality themes, that are present in the story and process it, while your eyes and ears are delighted by the visuals and the hauntingly beautiful score.
There will never be a film quite like 'The Fountain.' It's a film way ahead of its time. And that's a good thing.

This movie portrays Jackman being more sensitive than other popular movie roles he has been in, such as the X-men comic book movie series or the films Real Steal and Van Helsing. Although he shows a more sensitive side, he still plays a strong hero. As he plays the various characters in three different, yet parallel, stories he makes you a part of his journey. As the viewers follow Jackman through his quest, they too, will find themselves searching right alongside him as he journeys towards his destination. The lovely Rachel Weisz, playing the woman Jackman is trying to save, is elegant and graceful in her role. Together, Rachel Weisz and Hugh Jackman make this low budget film become larger than life. With heartfelt storytelling and breath taking visuals this film is truly intellectually stimulating as well as purely entertaining, as it asks the age old question: “What is the meaning of life?” This movie is full of symbolism and metaphors which assists in telling the story and keeping the veiwer engaged. The visuals and graphics used are beautifully stunning. This movie is a treat for the eyes as well as an enchantment for the mind. The music has a unique sound and beautifully slips into the heart and hooks onto the soul as it carries the moviegoer along while the story unfolds.
I wish the movie was not so short. I wish there were more scenes throughout the movie or the scenes were longer in duration. Also, the ending left me wanting to see more. After this long journey, it all comes to an abrupt end. The ending was well done; however, I wish there was more to it.
I definitely recommend this movie to anyone. I absolutely love this movie. I would say it is in my top ten favorite movies of all time. I would love to watch it anytime, over and over again.

For those who wish to sit down and watch a movie and not truly engage in it, like vast majority of today's films, this is not for you. While visually pleasing to the eye, it also requires you to think, to understand the visual clues to actually understand the movie. Not all movies hand you the storyline on a silver platter, and this is one of them. But for those who DO like to engage a movie, to look beyond just what is in front of your face, soak in the visuals, the haunting soundtrack, and a plot that builds up right from the get-go, you will not be dissapointed.
While I normally never write my own thoughts about a movie, I feel that this one doesn't receive a fair chance. Too many folks out there have forgotten about what elements are needed to make a good movie when we bombarded with bland, all show and no true plot movies like Avatar, Saw, ect. ect.....they seem to over praise movies like those, yet totally bash on a movie like this.

MOVIE:
- Inspiring work from Aronofsky once again.
- Hugh Jackman demonstrates just how versatile he can be. The Fountain is arguably one of his best films.
- The story beautifully touches upon themes like love, death, existentialism, and obsession.
VIDEO/AUDIO:
- Some scenes don't look as good as others, but overall, the video quality is good.
- Clint Mansell's work sounds really good throughout the film.
EXTRAS:
- I love that Aronofsky's home video releases include documentaries of the making of his films. The 64 minute feature documents behind-the-scenes, interviews with Aronofsky and his crew, and even provides some background on the pre-production of the film.
- I'm a big fan of Hugh Jackman so seeing the bit with Rachel Weisz interviewing him is a treat.
- The Petri dish/macro loop is really pretty to watch. Love the music that plays along with it as well.
The Fountain is one of those movies I can't coherently explain, but I can certainly express my appreciation for this great work of art. Darren Aronofsky and Hugh Jackman make such a great team and seeing this movie only makes me wish that they collaborate some time again in the future. I'm a very proud owner of this blu-ray.

This is an amazing movie in every way. However, it is not made for people who do not like to think while watching a movie. Yes, you may have to watch it a few times to get the full story and how deep it actually runs, but when you get it, it makes you love the movie all the more. So, if you like movies with shallow plot lines that don't involve thinking, then this is not the movie for you. If you like the kind of movies that leave you in awe and can move you over and over again, then this is the movie for you. It is a work of art and very very unappreciated.
My only complaint is that I ordered the movie for a friend from the web site for Christmas and it arrived with a broken case. I think its mostly due to the way they packaged the movie.

I cannot express how much I love this film. Hugh Jackman and Rachael Weisz absolutely kill in this movie. It might be a bit too "artsy" for some, as the story can seem a bit abstract, but if you love FILMS with substance, beauty, pain, emotion, passion, vulnerability, love, dedication, a great story dealing with our morality and a life bigger than our own... then this is a must own. It is such a BEAUTIFUL film! The bathtub scene is so heartbreaking and brings me to tears every time I watch it! I actually didn't really care for the movie the first time I watched it, but I knew I needed to watch it again to "get it", and I'm glad I did, bc it is absolutely one of my favorite films ever. Love love love. Can I say that enough? Experience this film!

If you miss real cinema, movies that made you FEEL something, then this one is for you.
It is a bit pretentious, but it just has such a draw that you cannot look away. It gives you chills down your spine, and the soundtrack is one of the best I've ever heard.
If you enjoy movies that don't just hand you the story on a platter but instead make you think and make you empathize with the characters then you will like this one. It reminds me a lot of 12 monkeys, What Dreams May Come, and other esoteric movies like that.
The story actually comes to the conclusion that any buddhist will easily recognize...I will not spoil it though.

I dont know why people can not figure this movie out. Its the male lead in the future that is looking back at his past lives. the female lead is writing a story about the past. As he reads the story he pictures himself in those scenes. Then there is the story with him as a doctor trying to save his wife. its a heart breaking movie that for some reason never got the attention it deserved. I guess it was too complex for the MTV generation to comprehend. If you dont understand it the first time WATCH IT AGAIN!!! Its worth it.

This is just a beautiful movie. Awesome visual effects and captivating musical score. It requires repeated viewings to take everything in. Some may find it boring because there are times where there is no dialogue, but that's why I completely love it, a very different movie experience.
If you are looking for a typical movie like most films out there, this may not be for you. But if you want something different, something that draws you in for a visually stunning ride, then pick up this movie

This is an amazingly brilliant film! One of my wife and I's favorite movies! This is the immortal journey of one man who refuses to lose his soul mate throughout an epic 1,000 year period. This movie is very artistically dream-like, and very powerful. Hugh Jackman is fantastic in this movie. I highly recommend this film! Also, from writer/ director Darren Aronofsky, you should check out The Wrestler and Requiem for a Dream.

I'm not claiming to be overly intelligent, but such a divided film makes me wonder if it was too much for some to get. Not your typical hollywood blockbuster, kind of the opposite, but a thought-provoking, moving piece of work that, in my opinion, if you put the effort into it, you will get so much out of it. Be in an open frame of mind or don't even bother.

If you're looking for something artistic, and something to jerk your tears and reach in to your emotional side. This is the movie. Brilliantly made with a perfect mixture of present, past and out of body experience, this movie will blow your mind. I love it, and I definitely think it's worth the buy.

Ok i'm a hugh jackman and rachel weiss fan
and they are always good and they do the best job they can
but in the end an actoris only as good as the director and the
story.....so it is with some regret that i must say that for the most part this movie doesn't make much sense...
it's not logical or linear and there are so many flashbacks involved
you don't really know what is going on and by the time you figure it out
another flashback is happening...and if you can figure out the ending of this film please let me in on the joke because i'm still scratching my head on that one and this is not a new movie.....
