Peter Jackson's first dip into big-budget FX before Lord of the Rings, The Frighteners is a mixed bag of wacky ghost humor and rather grisly violence. Jackson said he always wanted it lighter but the studio pushed for a more violent Halloween picture. Michael J Fox is fantastic, crossing the line from comedy to emotional drama perfectly. As for the disc, boy this thing will give your sound system a workout! Great playful score too. Some of the CGI is dated, but it still works. And the real treat is the 4+ hour documentary on the making-of.

Michael J. Fox plays a psychic paranormal investigator using real ghosts he "sees" to scare profits from fake haunts. An actual ghost is set to making a killing as death itself, but how can a psychic stop a killer that's already dead? Directed by Peter Jackson before doing 'Lord of the Rings', this non-stop action comedy touts plenty of horror actor veterans with a surprising plot but sadly too many jump cuts. Produced by' Forrest Gump' director Robert Zemeckis and scored by Danny Elfman of film 'Beetlejuice.'

I saw this after seeing Ted. It also came with movie cash to see the movie Oblivion. Overall, It seemed like the producers put a lot of time into this movies. It was created in the 80s but the special effects were kind of cool.. Things have changed but it's still an entertaining flick.

I had seen this movie many years ago & found it quite funny, i ordered it through Best Buy, i laughed throughout the entire movie once again.

Peter brought Michael J. Fox to New Zealand to film this crazy and for it's time the most cutting edge film about ghost! Oh, how I love this film I remember as a kid...
