My version was black and white. Wife enjoyed the movie more than me, but it was worth watching, worth buying. Nice cinematography, a little slow at times.

I remember I really liked this movie when I was a child, as well as the TV series with Hope Lange and Leo G. Carroll. I was disappointed seeing it again, though. It's not nearly as charming as I remembered, and even for the time period kind of an average film. The haunting aspect was glibly glossed over in an unartful way. Rex Harrison seemed a completely normal human except that sometimes some people couldn't see him.

I like older films but this one was just a bit on the downer side for me. It had some lighter moments but the Captain and her were always going at it verbally that it got a bit old after a while. I know it is a classic but I just couldn't get into it like a Davis or Crawford movie. It all wraps up well in the end if you believe in ghosts, which I don't but it makes for mild entertainment though.

I gave this movie as a gift, but had the pleasure of watching it with the giftee. So ok, it's a sort of romance movie and I'm a guy so I'm supposed to shy away from movies that don't have an explosion a minute, but it's an honestly good movie. It boasts wonderful performances. Gene Tierney is a delight as usual, and so is Natalie Wood in one of her childhood roles. I'm not fan of Rex Harrison, but he portrays Captain Greg so well in this movie that I forgot about the actor and thought only about the ghostly Captain Greg. Well worth the price, it's a movie the entire family will enjoy.

The spirit of a grumpy, yet quite dead, sea captain, played by Rex Harrison, inhabits a sea-side cottage which is rented by, a young and beautiful, GeneTierney. He lets her become aware of his prescense in the hopes of scaring her out of her lease. She surprises him by her lack of fear of him and a relationship soon develops through which they mutually learn to "live" with and begin to "enjoy" each others company. An unexpected and tender love story ensues that will span eternity itself.
