One of the worst movies made for kids. Mine still watches it occasionally. Buy zootopia instead. I wish I could get my money back on this one.

I liked this movie a lot, makes me wonder why the Critics said that it was terrible movie, or didn't make for long in theaters, my point of view it's a good one

    Finding your Roar

What if? That’s the beginning of this film with its spectacular scenery, a beautiful soundtrack, an exciting story and so much more. What I really love about this film is the animation. A good 20 minutes of the film is dedicated to looking at the scenery, which is incredible. The design of the landscape, with its hills, valleys, mountains and rivers is truly breathtaking. This movie is not all comedy, there is quite a bit of drama. In many scenes you feel touched by the characters and even pity them. The whole plot is a large and exciting adventure which allows for some mild action. There is a bigger moral to the story which is “discover your voice.” Disney has focused on that in its “Find Your Roar” campaign, encouraging kids everywhere to “find your own voice or ‘your roar!’” The story starts when an infamous meteor hits the Earth. Millions of years later, a dinosaur named Arlo is separated from his family and home. He goes on a huge adventure to get back home, which involves enemies, friends and more. The story is dramatic and takes turns that surprise the audience multiple times. The voice acting is excellent in every role, making characters sound alive, personable and full of energy. One of my favorites is Butch (Sam Elliot). Butch is a T-Rex and a pretty cool one too. Sam makes him seem menacing and dramatic, but still friendly, even a bit funny at times. In the Blu-ray version, there are a dozen special features, including an option to listen to commentary throughout the film from some of the creators, including storyboard artists and editors talking about the process they used to make the film. A perfect example of this is when they discuss how they based the terrain on the western United States. The special features also include deleted scenes and some cool interviews. My favorite scene is when Arlo meets the T-Rexes. He and his companion, Spot, are running away from scavenger birds. They see a dinosaur in the distance and plea for help. It turns out they find two powerful T-Rexes and the T-Rexes assist Arlo and Spot to get to safety and on with their journey. The staging in this scene is intense and dramatic, especially when you don’t know if these giant carnivores will be more dangerous than the birds. This film is most suitable for ages 6 to 18. Younger kids may find the more intense and dramatic scenes way too frightening. I give it five out of five stars for its beautiful animation, emotional voice acting, an intense story and smooth editing. Reviewed by Gerry O, KIDS FIRST! Film Critic. This film was great. Probably the most underrated movie of the year. I never cared much about animated movies but after seeing this one by chance i was blown away. The visuals were stunning and captured the American west like no other film i can remember. Every inch of the landscape is rendered to absolute perfection. The characters, while cartoon style, were also rendered nicely. Their facial expressions, combined with a gorgeous score and environment, are what told this story. The story line is familiar, but fresh. There are alot of good lessons to be learned for younger viewers... the importance of family, friendship and 'making your mark' in life. Overcoming your fears was a huge theme in the film. Looking back on my own childhood i feel i could really relate to Arlo's character. There was one scene in particular that had very little dialogue but was perhaps the most beautiful piece of cinema ive seen all year. Im not an emotional person by any stretch, but it nearly had me bawling. There's alot of negative reviews saying this film was "too serious" or too "scary" for kids... Those reviews are more a reflection of a generation of over-protective parents who want their kids to grow up in a bubble than they are a reflection of the quality of this film. It is rated PG, and as such, there are some scenes that might be intense for kids under 7, but to be honest, kids under 7 wont appreciate the best parts of movie anyways. Rest assured, there's nothing in this movie that wasn't in Bambi or Land Before Time. Not every movie is supposed to be silly. A good film invokes every emotion... which this one does brilliantly. With theatres stacked with marvel spin offs and Michael Bay explosion flicks, its was refreshing to see a film with emotion and heart in it once again.

    Decent Pixar Movie/Spectacular Animations

I don't understand why people say that this movie is horrible. I would have originally given this movie 4 stars. Its not the best Pixar movie as far as story goes but it's still a good movie. The best part of this movie however is the graphics. Which is why I gave it 5 stars. MY GOD. At times you will LITERALLY believe that the scenery is real landscape with cg animation on top of the picture. It looks that real. I've seen some awesome animated movie graphics but this is leaps and bounds ridiculously real looking. And if you have a 4k upscaling tv or receiver it really makes things look like they shot on actual locations. The only downside is that Pixar did not give the actual characters the same detail and clarity. So it kinda looks weird to see the cg dinosaurs in such a real life looking environment.

This movie blew me away! My expectations were kinda ...meh...but soon Arlo, his family and his mysterious little friend had not only my 4 year old daughter enamored, but also my 1 year old son was glued, and he never gives the television screen the time of day. My husband and I were both enchanted by the movie too, we all love this story of sweet Arlo. Awesome storyline, and epic work put in this movie. Bright, brilliant scenes and an impressive design for the layout and format of the blu ray disc.

My 3 year old loves this movie and went through a phase where he was watching it twice a day. Had movie for quite some time note and he still asks to watch it about once a week, which isn't bag because I like the movie too so I don't mind shooting through it with him. Really good mix of comedy, action, and emotions.
