I enjoyed The Great McGinty, though in my opinion the better Preston Sturges films are Sullivan's Travels, The Lady Eve and Unfaithfully Yours. The film opens in a bar located inn an unnamed Latin American where McGinty begins to tell the story of his escapades, one fraud after another. Then one good deed "ruins" his life. The screenplay, like most of the work of Sturges, is well-written (it won the Oscar). But overall, while I enjoyed the film it was not wowed by it.

Preston Sturges' comedy about election fraud and political corruption remains as relevant today as it was when it was made.
Excellent home video presentation from Kino Lorber.
