Battle of the Five Armies is the weakest entry

The Battle of the Five Armies battle scenes are reasonably exciting, and several strong character beats help pull it through to the end. Fortunately, it has an excellent video presentation and powerful DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 surround track. Bottom line? The Battle of the Five Armies is a decently engaging three-star amusement park ride, but be warned: the more you scrutinize, the deeper you look, and the closer you examine all the moving parts, the more dissatisfied you're likely to become. And it isn't long before that dissatisfaction breeds disappointment

I would rate this movie as very good but not great. If you have not seen the other two Hobbit movies then do not start with this one as it doesn't offer much explanation of the characters or plot - it just jumps into the story. If you have seen the other Hobbit movies then you will like this movie as it ties up all of the plot. it has lots of action and is true to the Hobbit story line. It does not break new ground though and is mostly action sequences. I recommend watching this movie with a big screen TV, a loud surround system, & a big tub of popcorn!

This was a great ending to an awesome series. I know that a lot of people didn't want to watch these movies because their favorite character wasn't in them. Let me just tell you The Battle of the Five Armies and both other Hobbit movies stand on their own and could be your new favorites!! Get them all in 3d at your local Best Buy today! You won't be disappointed!

The final chapter for the Hobbit

I really liked this finale to the Hobbit series even though a lot of it came not from the book, but the mind of Peter Jackson. Be aware there is an extended version coming. I like to have both to compare the versions, but some people only like the extended versions. 6 great movies, although these didn't get the accolades the Lord of the Rings got, still great stuff.

If you have seen the other Hobbit movies or LOTR movies you know what's in store for the audience during the final installment; big battles, lots of CGI glory and some fantastic visuals. The Blu-ray copy does not disappoint, I would not buy the 3D version mainly because of the change in frames per second that makes the 3D effect very disorienting and uncomfortable.

    Great movie... unless...

... you read the book. The Hobbit movies have been Hollywood 'ized' to such an extent that it is actually laughable in many places. Tolkien junkies will no doubt cringe at many of the plot gaffes found throughout the movies. However: If you have NOT read the book, and you enjoyed the LOTR trilogy, you will find a ton of things to enjoy. In particular, this, the final installment, will blow you away in places. Either way... it is worth buying.

I did not prepare for this movie by re-watching the prior 2 films... MISTAKE - I really think you need that context fresh in your mind to enjoy this; it is, after all, the climax. I did not like the first third of this film because the others simply weren't fresh in my mind. Once the battle starts I couldn't help but get into the film. My criticism was too much CGI...WAYYYYYYY to much CGI... the orcs that were actors made up looked and moved 100X better than the mo-cap guys. There were some scenes that I couldn't abide such as a battle scene with Sauruman, Galadrial, Gandalf and Elrond fighting the ring wraiths and Sauron X Men style - which must have been made up... I can't conceive of this scene ever having been in any appendix materials connected to anything Tolkein ever wrote... over all I enjoyed the film despite myself. I am hoping that a second viewing in context fixes my problem with act one and/or that the Extended Cut is an uptick from this... that being said the only extended edition that was not an improvement over the theatrical cut IMO was Desolation Of Smaug.... I will also say that I am starting to question if Peter Jackson has anything left in the tank... Hobbit is OK overall but not even close to LOTR... AND his style is getting to be dated. We shall see.....

A fitting finish to one of the greatest movie sequels ever made. Love, hate, loss, and gain, it is all in there. How can you resist Evangeline Lilly? Showed that it was more than just an action movie. The last song was terrific by Billy Boyd, who was actually one of the actors in the movie, but did his best part at the end of the movie with "The last goodbye".

My copy is 3 days late because of ordering online. I'm disappointed in Best Buy's ability to ship by in store release date. Anyway the movie was super freak'n awesome. I gave it movie of the year. The characters gave a award winning performance and the action was great. Special effects was good also. Incredible ending to a incredible trilogy. Id say a must buy .

Adequate entry to close out the trilogy

If you own the first two entries into this trilogy, then this will close out the saga adequately. The Smaug storyline was resolved early, and the rest of the movie led into the climatic battle. There were some extra hooks added to help bridge the gap between the two different trilogies, which were appreciated, but the ending felt unfulfilled. Once some key moments occurred, if felt as though the story jumped ahead to hurriedly wrap up the movie. As far as packaging, I am not a big fan of the steelbook, but it was cheaper than the regular packaging.

Compared to the Lord of the Rings trilogy, the hobbit movies had a noticeable lesser quality in CGI. The 3D version only made it more obvious.

This is by far the best of the hobbit trilogy. It directly starts off where The Desolation Of Smaug ends and completes Bilbo's tale. Tons of action that keeps you glued to your seat. If you enjoyed the first two then you will love this.

Assuming you have seen the LOTR movies and the previous 2 Hobbit films you know what you are in for. The battle of the five armies has lots of battles, great music and is great for fans of the fantasy genre. Steel book is great, love getting these things. Unfortunately if you are a fan of 3D you will not get that version of the movie in the steel book edition.

The work that Peter Jackson has done is excellent, as usual. Tells more than the book itself, but fills in the details with a good story and full of action. As in The Lord of the Rings, he brings in much barely written about from the Appendices, staying as true as a film adaption could to the original story. When will he work on stories from the Silmarillion?

It was great to see the extra footage on this third set as I did not buy the first DVD I waited till the extended version came out it's great to see and great to watch. I would say go ahead and buy this movie if you like extra footage and love action-packed movies And it is the last of the movies from the hobbit to finish a good three set series .

Each episode of the Hobbit Trilogy trumped the previous one and the final one did not disapoint. There was just enough action, emotion and humor to bring the journey to an exciting and emotional close. The special affects and new characters were always first rate with first rate actors creating a world of fantasy filled with anger, camaraderie and emotion.

So the Hobbit series is the inferior LOTR, however that means it's still better than most other stuff out there. Its a fitting end to an OK series.

As a LOTR fan, I wasn't entirely thrilled with the Hobbit trilogy. That being said, when taken on their own, and not compared to LOTR, they aren't bad at all. After all how can anything having to do with Middle Earth not be great!! Anyway, a beautiful with an amazing battle scene that you should definitely check out.

I have always been a fan of The Hobbit. I enjoyed this movie series just as much as The Lord of the Rings series. The graphics didn't seem to be as good as the LOTR series but the content, acting, and directing was just as good. Peter Jackson, once again, took me back to my childhood and I fell in love with the characters and story all over again!

I really don't have much to say. I saw all three int he theater. Was going to get the box set but I had to get The Desolation of Smaug for my son to see. So I needed this and An Unexpected Journey to complete the set. I still may get the box set in Blu Ray :). I liked them all but the last two are my favorites with this being the BEST (to me anyway)!
