If your in to fantasy movies the Hobbit is a great trilogy. Haso a good plot, plenty of action, and good special effects. Be sure to watch them in order as it is really one long movie cut into 3 parts. No closure to anything. The movie just stops and the next one starts where the previous movie stopped.

Lots of action, but not really true to the book

First, let me say that I've thoroughly enjoyed another foray into Middle Earth. The movie trilogy has been entertaining and high quality. However, for a diehard Tolkien fan, there was too much deviation from the book in this story for me. Even the original trilogy was more authentic. Too many non-canon characters (Tauriel, anyone?), and there was really no need to drag this into a trilogy. Two movies, maybe, but not a trilogy. Anyway, I did enjoy it overall and I'd watch it again.

Good, but not true to the book or series

If you have never read The Hobbit or the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, then by all means watch the 9 hours of Peter Jackson's "The Hobbit", including "The Battle of Five Armies". There was lots of action, adventure, romance, scares, and thrills, and the special effects are amazing. If however you are a fan of the books, these movies add many extra characters and subplots that did not exist, and draw out the story to much longer than it would have been if it had been true to the novel.

A fitting end to a mediocre trilogy.

The Hobbit Trilogy has been a mixed bag. Mostly overstuffed, overly stylized, but with some fun scenes. Peter Jackson is barely able to keep his needlessly sprawling story together. It would literally take less time to read The Hobbit than to watch these three films. This final film is nothing more than a protracted battle sequence to wrap the three films up. It's thrilling at times, but it's mostly tedious. Bilbo as a character takes a backseat to all the action in the film and that's kind of a shame seeing how this series was supposed to be about his journey. Somewhere along the line, PJ forgot That The Hobbit in question was Bilbo and that these movies were supposed to be his story. He was clearly more interested in making a Lord of the Rings prequel than an adaptation of The Hobbit. All that said, none of these movies are without their moments and can be enjoyed for what they are.

    Great story but...

The biggest complaint I have with Peter Jackson's vision of the Hobbit is that it never should have been three movies. Lord of the Rings= 3 books three movies, Hobbit=1 book 3 movies. It should have been a maximum of two movies. Because of this, there are too many slow spots that never should of been included in a movie format (i.e. sing a'long at the table). The third movie was the best one of the three, but again, it should have been the second and final movie and not a trilogy.

I don't have a 3D blu-ray player but love the 3D cover which is awesome. Haven't watched all the special features but the extended version fills in a number of confusing gaps the theatrical version didn't have. The movies flows a little better and I would highly recommend only ever watching this version.

Great action adventure family movie. 3D is just icing on the cake. Highly recommend. Very long movie as is every single episode in this series. You'll need to watch the entire series (6 movies altogether from Lord of the Ring to The Hobbit trilogy) to really understand the plot.

The Epic Conclusion to the Hobbit Trilogy

The Hobbit Trilogy concludes in this fantastic Steelbook set. It features a matte finish with good inside and outside artwork. The film itself looks amazing on Blu-ray, and is a fun ride from start to finish. I can't wait to see what is added for the eventual Extended Edition later in the year. Highly Recommended!

    Not The Books

The Hobbit Movies are not the book, the book has a better story arc that makes more sense. However the movies are epic with nice effects and decent acting. In other words, if you're expecting the books, you'll hate them, on the other hand if you just like well-made, high-quality movies, then you'll like them.

A rousing end to the Hobbit Series, which I actually enjoyed more than Tolkein's original tale-- too many dwarves, I said of the book. In the films, they have differentiated personalities, so that helped me like the series better. The battle does drag on awfully long, but a satisfying conclusion to an epic tale. I counted armies of elves, dwarves, men, and orcs. I presume the fifth army is the magical force of birds and wizards? No matter, a very enjoyable series!

Better than most critical reviews, but I did see the filler scenes which just detracted from the overall plot. I thought the early plot was diluted to the point that I gave up trying to understand it all. Maybe I'm not a deep LOTR fan IDK. Overall this movie got better towards the end and I enjoyed it overall

The bluray quality is awesome. Not much else to say about a bluray disk. The movie itself leaves me disappointed when compared to how well the Lord of the Rings trilogy were done. The Hobbit trilogy is manipulated beyond what Tolkien intended. Peter Jackson should have stuck with the original storyline.

"The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies" isn't exactly like the book. It keeps to the main story line and essence of Tolkien's book, however; and I love watching all 3 movies, as well as the trilogy, "Lord of the Rings". Great characters and portrayals, spectacular scenery and action, ultimate true story line.

First off, the actual Blu-Ray/DVD itself is fine. Packaging as expected. Physically the disks work. These things were as expected. The movie itself was ok. Color me confused, but I always figured a battle with a dragon would be epic. I was barely comfortable by the time it was over. The rest of the movie was fine. Having read the book, I knew where it was going. Much like the other Hobbit movies (and Lord of the Rings)...visually, it was beautiful. At least there's that.

The Hobbit's trilogy was really good. I really enjoyed this last one because everything came to the conclusion. The good guys won and the bad guys lost. Most important the Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit offer some great artistic film - the colors and the locations are awesome. Definitely worth acquisition.

The final chapter in the Hobbit saga bring it all to a gigantic action packed finale. The wonderful characters we have come to know through the three films all have great moments to shine as this particular adventure comes to its end. The set pieces and effects are as big and amazing as ever. Enjoy !

Very well done , and excellent finish to an amazing Trilogy . Leaves off almost perfectly for the beginning of Lord Of The Rings , Fellowship Starts . Will miss Gandalf , Bilbo , Thorin and all the characters . Cool battle between Lady Galadriel , Sauron and King of Elves with Sarumon and his 11 deamons .

I have been a fan of the J.R.R. Tolkien books for a very long time and to see them on the big and little screen has been great. This the third part of the 'Hobbit' has been put to the screen in a great way. I liked the movie very much and hope to see more of Tolkien's and Lewis' books put to the screen.

This was a great trilogy. The Hobbit tries throughout to mediate between opposing factions. The dragon appears in the second part of the trilogy, and he is great. The Battle of the Five Armies is the exciting conclusion. It is full of action and twists...a great end to a great trilogy.

Well, this is a good movie overall. It really needs to be watched with #2, _Desolation of Smaug_. The actors are all great. Richard Armitage was excellent in his role. While I love Jackson's adaptations of Tolkien's works (both LOTR and Hobbit trilogies), he really stretched The Hobbit out way too far. The ending is very abrupt in this movie, which I didn't like at all. Anyway, if you're a Tolkien fan and/or a Peter Jackson fan, you'll most likely enjoy this movie.
