As crazy as this sounds, I did not see any of the Hobbit movies in the theater. I am so busy with life that movie theater trips rarely make it into my schedule. When I do have the time for movies, I usually go out and buy them and watch them in the comfort of my own home. Anyways, I have all three of the Hobbit movies in Steelbook Blu-ray edition. I love Steelbooks, and all three of these editions for The Hobbit match. This edition came with the Blu-ray with the movie on it, another Blu-ray with special features, and then the DVD version on a separate disc. I do not recommend anyone settle watching this movie on DVD. Even on my 40 inch Sony LED, the difference from DVD to Blu-ray is astonishing played on my Xbox One. I can only imagine how great this was in theaters. One day soon I will upgrade to a 4k set so I can't wait to re watch all these on possibly 60 incher 4k screen! Peter Jackson never fails though! 5 stars all around!

The movie arrived in a sealed case. However, when opened, the movie DVD was not properly secured in the case. It was able to move around and possibly get scratched. It didn't and it played without any problems. Just kind of weird that the disc was not snapped into its place. This have never happened before with any disc I received in the mail. Could it have popped out during the shipping/handling process, maybe.

These movies aren’t nearly as good or feel as epic as Lord of the Rings but they are still pretty fun to watch if you are a big fan.

The definitive cut of the Final Chapter

The Extended Edition is truly the definitive version of The Battle of the Five Armies, and a welcome improvement over the already entertaining, but incomplete feeling theatrical cut. The battle in question is given a greatly needed extension, so now all sides get equal screentime (with a few new interesting orc troops added to the fray) and it just feels more fleshed out. Everything in the movie has more time to breathe and it still flows perfectly. The final chapters of the appendices on the last 2 discs of the set are very informative and a beautiful and bittersweet farewell (try not to tear up during the tribute to the late and great cinematographer Andrew Leslie, I dare you) to the Middle Earth Saga, which remains one of the finest fantasy stories to be put on screen. For any fan of the Middle Earth Saga, this release is absolutely a must-own!

    Hobbit's is Nice!

Yes, yes, yes, I know there are people out there who really were offended by Peter Jackson's creative input on The Hobbit (whether it be the first movie or the last). Legions thought Jackson a heretic! When The Hobbit & Lord of The Rings became an "in" thing in the 50's & 60's, the general public couldn't understand the stories much less all the names of characters & places that would be so pivotal to the beat of the story. Some didn't know what the phrase "Frodo Lives!" meant as found scrawled on the most amazing places from subways to rest rooms to sidewalks! I can't really defend Jackson, but I can say he took a chance to make The Hobbit storyline more interesting to a broader audience thus gaining new readership and a deeper appreciation of all things Tolkien. To that I say "Bravo, Peter Jackson!"

Despite being a Hobbit fan, I was disappointed in the theatrical release of the final installment, The Battle Of 5 Armies. The battle itself seemed incomplete, the trailer included scenes that were not missing and a few other parts of the movie were generally lacking within the theatrical release. However, the extended edition bridges all these gaps for me and I really had little to complain about so I highly suggest getting it. The battle was the most effected in a positive way by the extended edition. I surly enjoyed the extra scenes of Gandolf in Dol Guldur as well as Galadriel. My only complaint (with both theatrical and extended editions) is that all the main characters such as Azog, Bolg, Dain and his Dwarf army and Thranduil's Elfin army should have been actual human beings instead of CGI.

This was a great close to the the epic Hobbit movie saga. Stunning cinematography and graphic displays, making monsters and the entire story come together! While there was some holes in the end in regards to a lack of closure in my opinion, the story itself was sound and tied up the movies themselves. The movie was filled with amazing action, monsters and more. I know that with all of the action I was wondering how they would finish up this trilogy. Also, you wonder how the main villain will be taken care of...but you have to bide your time to wait and see what happens! In the end, this is a great movie that you will love watching! Also, get ready to turn up the surround sound as this movie has some amazing sound effects too!

The end of The Hobbit Trilogy is everything that was expected, and then some. Even as the great Dragon Smaug destroys lost of Laketown, but is then killed by the bowmen, Bard. Thorin Oakenshield slowly falls into the insanity of "Dragon Sickness", and threatens war against the survivors of Laketown, and even against an army of elves, until the arrival of Azog the Defiler and his massive army of Orcs, Goblins and Bats. It then, like the title, becomes The Battle of the Five Armies (Humans, Elves, Dwarves, and Azog's two armies). The end is a bit sad, but still, an incredible way to end the Hobbit Trilogy, and it leads right into the Lord Of The Rings Trilogy. Excellent!!!

Much better than theatrical. R rating adds higher stakes, initial cut was too short.
