The Hunger Games book series is phenomenal and I feel very underwhelmed after watching this movie. It does not do the first book of the trilogy justice, leaving out quite a few details. The 2nd movie has a new direction and was done much better.

I'm not the only one. Read all the 1 star reviews. Blu-Ray Had loss of sound, skips, at one point it even froze my Blu-Ray Player. Moved to other room, same issue. I had to finish enjoying the movie by watching the DVD version, which let's face it, shouldn't have to happen. Now that I see that others have the same issue, I plan on contacting Liongate for either an exchange or just for them to send me a new Blu-Ray Movie and Special Features Disc. Especially that I paid for an unwatchable disc. Away form the product itself, the movie itself is fantastic. Definitely give it a watch. The "I would recommend portion" below, I recommend the movie, but I do not recommend this version.

Double check that this is the movie that you want. It had been incorrectly labeled as Catching Fire (movie 2), when it's actually Hunger Games (movie 1). I didn't notice until after I opened and started playing it

I'm a big fan of the series (books and now the movie) so i decided to buy the collector's edition instead of just the regular blurays. BIG MISTAKE! The price isn't bad. For $10 more, you get the box, a paper weight thing and dvd copy of the movie. BUT, like some of the reviews here, the bluray movie keep on freezing right in the middle. I tried playing it on 2 players because i thought my player was messed up. But i wasn't the only one having this problem. Best buy should have a solution for this because I checked to see where I can have it exchanged for a new one (hoping a new one would actually work!), but it was all sold out everywhere. I hope they just change the bluray disc.

I was hoping to be entertained and on the edge of my seat...disn't happen! Disappointed.

Bought the box set and tried playing the Blu-ray movie that evening. The disc began skipping and stopped play all together. I returned the movie and the salesperson and I opened 3 more boxed set movies and tried them...they all had the same skipping problems. This appears to be manufacturer defect. Best Buy ended up refunding my money. They should be pulling these off the shelves if you ask me. Bottom line...don't buy. Whoever manufactured these discs screwed up big time. Don't know how many manufacturers were used to mass produce the discs but...Best Buy got the junky release!

I probably didn't enjoy it as much as I should because everyone made such a bid deal about it. It was "ok" to me. Now the second one was awesome!

I bought this on the day it came out for my son's birthday in October, my wife and I decided to give it to him early. Good thing we did, we started watching it and about an hour or so into it the Blu Ray started skipping. So i returned it the next day to the same Best Buy I bought it from and we started watching that one, and it skipped in the same place also. So returned again to a Best buy 100 miles the other direction and watched it tonight. Surprise Surprise, it skips as well. Haven't watched the DVD version, but I wouldn't suggest buying based alone on the fact the Blu Ray doens't work.

I was very disappointed that this was the only way to basically get a BluRay Combo Pack. To bad the packaging and extra's don't live up to the quality of the actual movie. I would like to know who thought this would be better than your traditional Blu/DVD Combo pack!

I won't get into the saga of horrible customer service at Best Buy trying to exchange the Blu-Ray disc in this set. To put it mildly, I don't want to return to the store ever again. The set itself is nice and the DVD works great however after two sets the Blu-Ray still does not work and the special features disc is questionable. Best Buy will not switch out the Blu-Ray in this set with a 2 disc set for some reason so I have no idea if the 2 disc set works any better. The poor rating is strictly for the Blu Ray and the issues, the movie is great except that I have to watch it on DVD only.

had potential for being great but stopped short by not having enough engagement by the star. however, I would watch it again and recommend it to other.

The movie is very good and I am just walching the Blu-ray now. Best Buy's Special Edition Collector box set is garbage. The 4 DVDs are in a "CD case" size cardboard case; not in blu-ray boxes. The giant cardboard box it comes in is 90% empty and the useless souvenir it comes with is all scratched up. I wish I had just bought the regular bluray edition. It's going back to best buy or in the trash.

Having seen the movie and read the first book I have to say woooooow this is a huge rip off of battle royale, the book and movie. Same premise, goverment forcing kids to kill each other in a game... The author claims she's never heard of battle royale but the similarites are too great. Even Stephen king noticed it... Don't buy this movie and go watch an infintely better one!

I really liked it in the theatre. It is not a movie that is as good on the second go around.

I can't stand how this movie was filmed especially during the action scenes. Wish they had used a different director. The character of Katniss is annoying in this one. I really do not like this movie. If there's ever a marathon of the Hunger Games movies, I always try to skip this one.

Great movie to own, don't need all the fancy packaging.

I bought this as a pre-order and the first time I watched the blu ray disc in my Samsung player it jumped scenes, pauses, and skipped thoughout the movie. It even jumps, skips, and pauses on my blu ray rom which is LG. Best Buy will not switch the discs with the regular blu ray when returned to the store that does not have the exclusive box set. By reading the other complaints with this blu ray box set I think Best Buy should replace the discs with the regular blu ray or recall the defective box set. Buy the regular blu ray edition skip the Best Buy exclusive.

This movie was originally released with a second disc. All of the Extras were on the second disc. This new Steelbook only has the movie disc, so you don't get any Extras at all.

The actual movie is a good movie. It's the blu-ray discs that will not play. I have a LG player with updated firmware and it pauses during the movie where I need to turn off the player and restart it. The blu-ray discs do, however, play fine on Sony products (PS3 and 2-year old Sony player with updated firmware). I did not try to take back the discs since I know it's a special edition and most stores won't replace discs unless they have the exact set in-store.
