A Nice 2nd Act
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The 2nd act in the Hunger Games series is decidedly darker as the table is set for rebellion and revolution. The cast delivered some great performances throughout the movie. I appreciated the large canvas upon which this story is drawn. The filming was excellent. I felt that the screenwriters/directors were reaching a little too much in order to move the storyline from point A to point B. There is just a lot of story to be told in a limited amount of time. Despite that one criticism, I found the movie to be very engaging and time flew by. Too soon, it was all over. I just wish this movie were available in 3D.

The Best Hunger Games Yet!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm not a huge HUNGER GAMES fan and I thought the first film in the series was just okay. I didn't quite understand all of the hype. Then this second installment was released. HOLY COW!!! Man, this one was SO good and MUCH better than the first film. The action, characters, storyline, competition, etc, were all extremely intriguing and fascinating. I never read the books and I don't plan to, so I didn't know exactly what was going to happen in the film. It just blew me away with everything, especially the ending. Actually, the ending was disappointing to me . . . I never wanted the movie to end!

Great for the movie, not so much extras
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you want this DVD for anything other than the core movie itself, such as deleted scenes, you're out of luck. The only real extra bit on this is about five minutes of minor deleted sequences, each one no more than 30 seconds or so long. Amusing, but not all that great. Sure, it has an extra Divergent-related trailer, but that movie is out three weeks after this DVD release ANYWAY, so your'e not missing much there. This is great if you want a less expensive way to own Catching Fire that's still legal, but honestly nothing else. Though, it has a subtitles option, so that's nice.

Great follow up to the original
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The movie Hunger Games: Catching Fire is about Kattniss Everdeen and Peeta Mallark as victors from the 74th annual hunger games. After they both are caught up in the post victory tour, they find out that there is a revolution brewing and they are told they can only read from a carefully scripted speech. They also find out that they will once again have to fight again for their lives even though they were told that they were awarded immunity when they won the first time. The plot thickens at the end and we are left wondering who is on who's side and lives hang in the balance.

1 of Few sequels better than the original
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Never read the books so when I went in to see the original Hunger Games knowing as little as possible about the story I was honestly floored by the scope, the stakes, the superb acting and VFX. I was not prepared to see what Francis Lawrence would come up with while taking the reigns from the great Gary Ross. He uped the ante, raised the stakes if you will and delivered an even better and grander movie. Delivering on a promise that the original Hunger Games wouldn't be a fluke. After this movie, I am very much looking forward to the last 2 movies based on Mocking Jay.

New director, better film
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. What were the issues I had with The Hunger Games? The musical score, the shaky cam style, the lack of urgency. This is a world where teenagers have to kill each other to live. The first film just didn't get it right. Jennifer Lawrence is really one of the greatest actresses of today. She really displays how strong, yet flawed Katniss is. She hates what is but isn't quite willing to make the leap. When you cross the line into doing what's right, you take risks. The final film is not out yet, but for now, this is the best in the series.

Great Instructional Video
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When I popped in this movie for my wife and kiddos, we were anticpating a sequal to the Hunger Games. Somehow, we inadvertantly had a copy of woodworking with a Hunger Games logo on the DVD. While it was not what I had intended to watch, I must admit that I was quite taken with the craftmanship and techniques that the video had to offer. It is not often that I learn how to hand make a four post bed using only 18 tools, none of them electric. I must admit, that this is not a topic that I have ever looked into, so I was bound to learn something. All in all, I would rate this a 4 star movie. Truly impressive, and I will be down at the local Home Deopt tomorrow picking up lumber for my new entertainment system that I plan on hand making over the next month. I also may swing by Best Buy to pick up a new copy of this film for the family to watch while I work.

great movie to own in dvd/blu-ray/digital combo
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I always buy the dvd/blu-ray/digital copy combo pack. It is the best deal for the money! I watch the blu-ray in my home theater room and when travelling in the car, the kids watch the dvd of the movie on the portable dvd player. We put the digital version on my laptop to watch. The movie is excellent. The story's action and drama is so intense, that I have actually seen the movie 5 times already. I would recommend spending a little extra to get the combo pack of this movie instead of just buying the single dvd. You will watch the movie several times!

Good movie with some movement issues.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This movie is a really good movie and a good follow-up to the first one. It was a well made movie and had good action and story. I did have a little issue with it though. I felt like the movement of the movie was a little slow. It really felt like a set up movie. By that I mean that they were trying so hard to work on this movie and get it to where the next movie could begin. It made it feel needless in some spot because it was just leading to the next movie. When you have a big franchise with multiple movies in line I understand how you have to work through one movie and make it tie in well with the next, but in this case it happened at the expense of this movie not feeling like its own personal entry. I still enjoyed the movie though. I like the character and actors playing them. I would recommend this movie completely.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire Blu-ray Steelbook
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire Blu-ray Steelbook is nice rarer packaging. I didn't really care about it having the DVD version, because if one has a Blu-ray why even watch it in a worse video format? The movie is darker than The first Hunger Games, but that's part of what I liked about the movie. Also, it isn't all about action, though there is action in it. Character developement to me is also very important, which is why I also liked Captain America as well. I highly recommend this movie, whether or not you buy the steelbook edition!

Great Deal for the Blu-Ray if you can get it!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got this for a great deal I believe it was the day of release grabbing the special Steel Case on Blu-Ray for $19.99 - While it only included the Blu-Ray it was all I really needed with an UltraViolet code included as well. As far as the film, it is an obvious classic part of a series in some peoples eyes while as of this point (just 2 films released) this is the best movie from the series as of now (more movies to be released)... this film will get anyone that though the first Hunger Games was just "Okay" to start loving the series.

AWESOME
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This movie is fantastic. I read the books before the movies and was so excited to see it turned to movie form. I was so very happy with the first movie with how closely they followed the book. Like any other person I know book to movie can be difficult and they nailed it. With THIS movie they were consistent with the book to movie inconsistencies from the first movie and followed with it. I was so happy with how it turned out and have watched it several times since its been purchased. I would most definitely recommend this to anyone.

Wonderfully produced film!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. While the heart-wrenching and sometime violent story may not be for everyone, there is no denying that it is a gripping tale told beautifully in its film version. The acting is first rate, with remarkable performances from Hollywood's young A-listers (Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson) and time-tested film greats (Donald Sutherland and Phillip Seymour Hoffman). The futuristic world is realized is striking detail through scenic and costume design. Overall, this film is one not to miss for its emotional weight and stunning visuals.

Great follow up to Hunger Games.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Rarely go to the movies, as it is difficult to coordinate schedules with friends. So, I usually wait for the DVD to come out for the movies I'm interested in. I'm a big sci fi/fantasy/action movie fan. Hunger Games: Catching Fire, continues the story from the first one. Lots of good action. As for the story line, I was kept on the edge of my seat, as I could not predict what would happen next, especially the ending. The ending definitely left it open for the third in the series, which will be coming out soon in the theaters.

Entertaining movie, flexible media
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I liked the stories and appreciated the movies enough to add them to my growing library. I've decided to purchase only BluRays that come with an iTunes digital download as I still prefer having the physical media with the flexibility of also having it in a digital library and this disk fit the bill - and the price was right. Finally, I've been able to purchase each of four BluRay disks with the digital download for much cheaper than buying directly from the iTunes Store. Worth the purchase.

This is about the steelbook itself
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This review is about the steelbook. Not the film. There isn't a whole lot to say about the steelbook. The artwork is nice. But I would have like to have had a gloss matte mix on the finish. But that's just me. The build quality of these steelbooks is really done well. Scanavo has won the battle of the premiere packaging. Opens easily and the sides don't rub and there is no hinge in the classical sense to worry about. There is inside artwork for you collectors who don't open your steelbooks. Other than that. I can't think of anything else to say about it. Some will complain about the price. But remember this is a "collectible" and is made of metal. So it's going to cost more than the regular amaray release. But I did like the film as well. Really looking forward to last two installments. May even read the books now.

Great Steelbook Packaging and Movies
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased the steelbook combo with both films. The pre-order discount price was nice for both movies. Packaging looks great and came in the mail with no dents. Wish these steelbooks came with DVD copies of the films. I have not watched the Blu-rays yet so I cannot comment on the transfers. From watching the first film through a streaming service and the second in theaters, I believe the second film is more exciting; however, that is just my opinion. I have read the third book and look forward to the theatrical conclusion.

Better than the first in the series
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I never knew anything about the Hunger Games books until the movies came out and I am now a big fan. If you have read the books, there a few different story variations. There was just so much to cover in the span of a two-hour movie. I bought this movie to add it to my Vudu account even though I have watched it numerous times. The story progresses along at a nice pace and I don't recall any dull moments. I also own The Mocking Jay Part 1 and am eagerly anticipating the fourth and final installment of this movie series. I didn't really like how the last book ended and I hope the director expands the ending a bit to give more detail of Katniss and Peeta's lives at the end of the war. Hope that didn't spoil the ending for those that don't know how the book series ends.
