I find that most people either love Vince Vaughn or hate him. If you like him, this is a great film. If you don't like him? Get over it and enjoy this film. ;) Admittedly, Vaughn has had a few so-so/duds (The Breakup and The Dilemma come to mind), but this isn't one of them. The film itself has a good pace of humor throughout while moving the story forward. The Google internship interview scene is great, but so is the "on the line" one later on. Let's admit it, this film is typically compared, unfairly, to Wedding Crashers. That was a great film, but the only reason The Internship gets compared to it is because of Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn being in both movies. Put that comparison aside and just enjoy this movie for what it is.

Yes, this is that 2 hour Google advert, with the director of the Night at the Museum trilogy and starring the Wedding Crashers.... Not truly the best sign of things. I love Google, I like most of Shawn Levy's films though he doesn't blow me away with his efforts but does good work, and the Wedding Crashers is probably one of the most overrated comedies of the last ten years or so. I wasn't looking forward to it, and to my surprise it isn't that bad of a film. The best part of Wedding Crashers was the chemistry between Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn and it still holds strong here, but the screenplay needed a bit of work. Its the usual underdog film where they are salesmen who lose their job, only to get internships at Google though they know nothing about technology. So of course, they are set up with a ragtag bunch of computer geeks who must take on their stronger, better, smarter rivals and win jobs. Predictable to a fault, with a shoehorned love story and the accustomed growing mutual respect between the team and you have every other film ever made about underdogs. Still, it made me laugh, and was well acted with some solid direction, but it does drag in the middle and could have been trimmed to a solid 90 minutes or so instead of the 110 minute mark, but its still a good watch, just not a full price movie. The DVD PQ & AQ is of course strong, with a good stable and sharp picture (Digitally shot, style of choice Levy since Date Night) and the standard comedy soundtrack that has dialogue loud and clear and distortion free. Only the Blu Ray could be better. The extras are a let down, at least on the DVD but whats included is good. The main extra is the commentary by Levy, and as usually, is a very chatty commentator, who talks about how he got the gig, film locations, etc, things like that. A good listen for those who enjoy commentaries. The other major extra is the unrated cut, that includes a few scenes that could have worked in the film had it went for an R-rating, which it should have. Other than that, nothing else of note and must buy the Blu Ray to access the rest of the extras (A featurette and some deleted scenes and a few other odds and ends) and is at least worth a rental.

The Internship is another funny outing for Vaughn and Wilson. After the success of Wedding Crashers, it's great to see the guys together in another wacky outing. There are a lot of laughs and fun parts, but when you get these two together, I expect wall to wall comedy. The movie fell apart a couple of times when the guys aren't on screen, but over all it is worth the price for a lot of good chuckles and laughs. I hope for their next film together, they ramp up the comedy to 11!
