Zelda meets Fallout, great game!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Warning (A few spoilers ahead) I won’t talk about gameplay or depth of the game, those are perfect as other reviews have said. Easily one of the best open world exploration games in years! For me it was the story that was the most interesting, a minimalist and bleak story about the aftermath and destruction of Hyrule when link failed to defeat Ganon. Link awakes a thousand years later to piece together forgotten memories and to find a way to defeat Ganon. It’s similar to when you leave the vault in Fallout only to find a few struggling villages and a landscape of monsters in a once beautiful world. I haven’t played a Zelda game since the N64 so this was a unexpected way to be introduced back to the series...almost feels like it’s been a thousand years since I’ve visited Hyrule :-) I was hoping to help rebuild Hyrule after defeating Ganon but I guess that’s what a sequel would be for. There is one town you get to help build and a home you can buy and upgrade, but it would have been fun to help even more places grow. That’s a minor complaint and just shows how much I want to stay in that amazing world. Only downside for me was the lack of music. You will wander for hours exploring and finding shrines and hidden treasures with not much more than the occasional piano chord or trill...then more silence. I get it, totally fits the theme of a place laid to waste, Fallout also has very little music unless you use your in-game radio. Music is only used when an enemy approaches and dramatic once it does begin. My favorite part was finally exploring Hyrule castle and hearing the familiar Zelda theme after waiting for so long. A game I won’t ever forget, and worth the price of a switch!

My New Favorite Zelda Game
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been following the development and news of this game ever since they first unveiled it via trailer. I was skeptical at first at how they would pull this game off. They claimed that you would be able to travel anywhere at anytime. Any place that you can see, can be visited. And when they said that you could go straight to the final boss from the beginning and bypass the entire game, I was blown away. Well, those expectations haven't failed me. This game is simply amazing. From the freedom of exploration to the combat system, everything feels so polished. The visuals in this game are stunning. I am very impressed with the sheer amount of detail that Nintendo put into this game. There are 120 shrines to visit in the game. These shrines are basically mini-dungeons with puzzles and rewards. I finally finished all 120 shrines today after over 100 hours of game time. And I still find new things in this game every day. The map is just THAT big. Even bigger than that of The Witcher 3 and Skyrim. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this game. The only faults I have found with this game is the areas which drop a bit in frame rate. Also, the weapons system which allows weapons to break. Though, this is a minor gripe since you find SO many weapons to easily replace the ones that break. I highly recommend this game to anyone who enjoys free-roaming titles such as Witcher and Skyrim. And of course, those who are fans of the Zelda series. This game surpassed my expectations two-fold. It's THAT good. I'm honestly worried about the future of the Zelda series. How can Nintendo top this masterpiece of a game?...

A breathtaking adventure
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Legend of Zelda is the one video game series I've followed since it began with the NES. In fact, it's often what leads me to buy a new Nintendo console and thanks to Breath of the Wild I now have a Switch ;) Breath of the Wild takes some of the best parts of Zelda (the story, characters, weapons, temples, side quests) and adds in some amazing new features (using stealth, enormous open world without restrictions, shrines, 'ancient' technology and enemies, runes [i.e. special powers], and new puzzles). The graphics are amazing and exploring the world of Hyrule never gets boring. There's always something new to find! The main story line is very compelling as well, leading you to many interesting places and challenges around Hyrule. Plus this game is seriously difficult. There are enemies that actually scare me when I see them, and fighting them is no small task. If you're unprepared you will not make it! Many of the shrines offer unique challenges as well, thanks to the features of the Switch and Link's new abilities like moving any metal object, or stopping time. About three weeks in now, and I still have much to do in this game. I'll reach 100 hours of gameplay fairly soon and I don't think I'll be finished by then. This is an amazing title and surely a new classic Zelda. It's addictive, it's gorgeous, and most of all it's really, really fun. It's well worth buying a Switch to enjoy this game.

Probably the Best Zelda I Ever Played
||Posted . Owned for 11 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A great game that I sunk the most hours I've even spent on a Zelda game. I never felt so much fun exploring and wandering around in a Zelda title. I'd prefer to give it a 4.9, but I can't so I'll do a 5. There were some some slowdown issues that honestly take away from the game. But its only in a few select areas. There is weapon degradation that is very divisive, but honestly I didn't mind it. What I did mind was no way to repair your items before they break. Also somewhat ironically, I wandered and did so much I was way too OP for the final boss. So I'll probably do Master Quest mode later. There was also division on the fact the game has 4 main dungeons before the final one, with a multitude of shrines that are basically mini dungeons on the map. Old school fans may be turned off by this-but the large world and frequent mini dungeons were fine by me too. All in all it's going to be hard for the sequel to top this game. I would certainly recommend it.

A whole New Adventure
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild retains some of the most treasured features of a Legend of Zelda game while taking you on a whole new adventure in this epic, open world game. The story is captivating and, in just the first few minutes of gameplay, you will be hooked! I am a mega Legend of Zelda fan with some of my favorite games being Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess. Breath of the Wild vies for top spot amongst them. This game will give you almost endless entertainment if you are an one hundred peecenter like myself. This game does not disapoint!

Excellent game
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this game after getting my hands on the sold out Nintendo switch. The game is awesome, my only complain was the frame rate dropping where various elements were present at the screen, but Nintendo put out a patch to solve this. Now the game is perfect. A lot of things to do and explore in the game. It may seem easy at the beginning but it sure puts a challenge when you continue playing.

Solid game for the Switch
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Game runs well in both modes. Plenty of content to play through. DLC available if you need more to do. Open world, play at your own pace game. Lots to do overall. Exploration is a big part of this title, as enemies are not densely populated. Game will keep you busy beyond the main theme with side goals that are completely optional. Great for hardcore and casual play.

The Elder Scrolls of the Zelda World
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.-A disclaimer- I haven't played Zelda since Oracle of Seasons, and Oracle of Time. I did briefly play the Ocarina of Time for the 3ds, but put it down due to boredom. -End disclaimer- This Legend of Zelda(LoZ) game is huge. It is open mapped, and doesn't have a time limit. So you can do what nearly everyone does when presented with a similar game... Do everything else, but the main storyline. You can surf/snowboard downhill on your shield (which will break it eventually), you can take selfies or pictures of the various wildlife/weapons/items..., you can solve the 100+ shrines(which are mostly puzzles), you can tame horses, you can climb the tallest mountains in Hyrule. Yes you can climb now, which means your movement is limited by only your stamina, and the weather, because rain will ruin your climbing day. Now on to some of the problems I have with the game. *There are 5 dungeons, which includes the one that Gannon/Gannondorf is in. *Weapons are flimsy. Some weapons will only kill 2 - 5 of the weaker monsters before breaking. One problem I've heard about is there is some frame stutter in docked mode, but there is virtually none in handheld. Overall the problems in this game do not outweigh all of the great features of this game.

Zelda's Wild Breath
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This game is exactly what I (or you, or anyone) would come to expect from years of Nintendo training, developing, and creativity for a new branch on the Zelda tree timeline. It's got monsters, its got big monsters, it's got even bigger monsters. Just when you think you've found nothing bigger BOOM A giant comes out of no where (sleeping on the ground) and you have to cross blades (or blade and a tree trunk) with a giant throwing stones and whole trees at you as you traverse the land of Hyrule. It has cleverly separated the dungeons into mini-dungeons as not to create the feeling of being stuck in one place too long, as there is so much to explore, see, do, and cook in this world. You'll be happily surprised at the vastness of this game in it's tiny presentation on the Nintendo Switch screen which just recently has been improved by our lovely quality controllers at Nintendo making what some might call some minor to mediocre frame rate issues. When presented on the big screen it will draw you in and make you feel the enormous power of the game and its artfully beautiful landscapes that seem like paintings of art more than a game. (Good thing there's a screen grab feature. Because I assure you once the Nintendo On-line goes live we'll be sharing some lovely photos.) Pick it up it's a great game!

Nintendo Switch's Holy Grail
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After releasing nearly four years ago, there, to this day, is no other game on the Nintendo Switch like "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild." Featuring an immersive open world with a ranking system where weak enemies grow increasingly stronger, armor upgrades, and special modifiers that enable stat boosts appear, the more you play the game, this breathtaking RPG sold me on purchasing the console alone. This title provides the player with what seems like an endless amount of gameplay, easily exceeding over 200+ hours to complete the game in its entirety. In-game, among a plethora of life-like details, you find most weapons are breakable; please note, that some of these weapons do not reappear--once broken, that's it! --So if you're a completionist, like me, make sure to follow a guide/walkthrough to avoid missing out. Hope you enjoy this masterpiece as much as I do. Cheers!

Best Zelda Game I've Ever Played
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First of all, I'd like to come out and say I try not to let myself become influenced by hype. More often than not, I'm let down by it than not, so I came into this latest Zelda title with a bit of apprehension. For the first twenty minutes or so, the game didn't quite "click" with me, and then all at once, it was just perfection from that point on. Breath of the Wild doesn't feel like a typical Zelda game. There are elements in place that will seem familiar—bombs and boomerangs, the Master Sword, the characters we've grown to love across all their reincarnations. But Breath of the Wild is also a breath of fresh air. It borrows from other action adventure titles, and does so without feeling derivative. Who would have thought that making a Zelda title more lifelike would give it such a sense of grandeur? You are going to have the Zelda purists who are upset with these changes, but if you're willing to take it for what it is, this latest adventure of Link explodes off the screen with excellent gameplay, a wonderful story told in a way that feels different, and a grand world that has secrets in every corner. I could not recommend this game more to anyone!

An evocative and exhilarating open-world adventure
||Posted . Owned for more than 2 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild’s sheer freedom and sense of adventure is a remarkable achievement. Right from the start, the vast landscape of Hyrule is thrown completely open to you, and it constantly finds ways to pique your curiosity with mysterious landmarks, complex hidden puzzles, and enemy camps to raid for treasure and weapons. The fact that you can tackle any one of these things at your own pace and almost never get pulled to the main path is liberating, but the way all of Breath of the Wild’s systems fit elegantly into complex light survival game is even more impressive. I’ve been running around for over 50 hours and I still have plenty of mysteries left to track down and lots of wonderfully crafted puzzles to solve. I’m in awe of the scope and scale of this adventure, and I often find myself counting the hours until I can get back in. The untamed, post-apocalyptic, techno-fantasy land of Hyrule is the main character in Breath of the Wild. Not only is it vast, beautiful, and filled with a diverse set of locations from grassy fields to craggy alpine mountains, but it follows surprisingly realistic rules that let you pull off solutions so intuitive that you might be surprised they actually work. The trees bear fruit, grass fields can be set ablaze, and even enemies and animals behave in a believable manner, based on the skittish and aggressive reactions I’ve seen in the wild. But the realistic touches don’t end there. Each object you encounter, from sticks to apples to rocks and metallic blocks, is made of a material, and those materials usually respond to forces like fire and magnetism as you’d expect. It all sets up a surprisingly fun and responsive sandbox to interact with, and one I’ve rarely seen executed so well in an action-adventure game. If you think something should work, it usually does, and that led me to all kinds of fun and hilarious experimentation. You can stand under an apple tree with a torch and bake the fruit into a quick-healing snack before you even pick it, or drop a metal sword in front of a weaponless enemy and watch it get fried by a bolt of lighting. Meanwhile, Link needs warmer clothes to survive the cold and flame-resistant gear to near the volcanic Death Mountain. It’s consistently amazing to learn how all of these systems interact with each other while you play.

Zelda... ON THE GO!!!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. What can I say that hasn't been said about this game? A likely game of the year winner on most lists improved by the simple but unprecedented ability to take it and play wherever you want...The game looks great docked (on your TV), but looks absolutely incredible in handheld mode. The gyroscopic controls can be a little wonky and this will affect you in boss battles and shrines but it takes very little away from such a finely polished, stellar example of a top quality sandbox style game. Some things about this game are divisive (weapons breaking, sparse storyline, too many typical Zelda conventions left behind, etc.) but what it does right is better than most games on any other system. Bottom line is if you've liked past Zelda games you need to give this a try, and if you like open world exploration games you will love this! Or vice versa. Oh yeah...AND YOU CAN TAKE IT ANYWHERE YOU WANT!!! I bought this for the Wii U last March and I am playing through it again on the Switch and still having a blast...Must buy!

Best Game of All Time - Seriously the BEST! A+++
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Wow, I can't put into words how much I loved this game! This is not only the best Zelda game I have ever played, but probably one of the best video games I have played over the decades. I have sunk in 140 hours and am still playing it. You can explore, find items, solve puzzles, fight enemies and monsters. There are mini-bosses, and 4 sub-bosses, and one big one at the end. There is so much to do, find, and concur. I just started playing more often again as the new DLC came out, and more is to come later this year. This game is gigantic. Almost too big. It is about $200 worth of game for $60. I normally feel 20 hours of play is well worth $60, but I have played 140 hours. I honestly think Nintendo needs to cut these types of large investment games in half and make a part one and part two. They would make more money and give them the ability to tweak things between the two. Although this game is very polished and has little to improve on. GET THIS GAME IF YOU HAVE A SWITCH OR WII U!

Lives up to the hype
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Zelda is an amazing game that redefines open world. The game encourages you to explore, giving you content and things to find in any direction you go. You can climb almost anything, making it so you define your path, not the level design. Puzzles are challenging in way that really scratches your brain just right, be it from figuring out how to complete them to figuring out how to completely break them to pieces. The combat is the one weak portion, it's okay at best. It's very much like zelda combat of yore, though you can do a lot more with the environment. Sure, you can swordmurder those jerks, but how about you climb way above them, magnet a door above them and squish them instead? This game alone justifies owning a Switch.

Pure Magnificent Art
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.*NO SPOILERS* This is a tremendously beautiful game, and you NEED to have it for the Switch. I love everything about this game, even the dinky parts like how weapons break and you have to adapt and you have to grind a little bit and how unpredictable it can be. Full disclosure, the console I had before the Switch was a SNES, so maybe, I'm blown away a bit more, but, you have got to have this!!!

An Amazing Open World Aventure
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is unlike any other Zelda game in the series not because of what it does but because of what it doesn't do. It doesn't force the player to follow a linear story from point A to point B. After the prologue of the game, the player is given almost complete freedom to do whatever they wish. If you want to run straight to Hyrule Castle and face the final boss with nothing more than a tree branch, then do so by all means. The open world and hands-off approach allow the player to make the adventure their own. Aside from a few missteps (such as limited weapon durability and a lack of conventional dungeons), Breath of the Wild is almost flawless in its execution and vision. If you intend on buying a Switch, then this is one title you need to play.

A great game for old and new gamers alike.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Despite being constantly impressed with the types of video games available today, I find that I rarely play any when I purchase them. However, I went out on a limb and purchased this one with the hopes that this would be different, and I can say that it certainly was a purchase well made. From the wonderful story, made possible by the array of great side characters throughout the game, to the ability to explore everything (want to jump down a cliff and see what's down there, just glide. Want to climb up to that tall peak in the distance, get there first and you can do it). The ability to explore anywhere you see, and the discoveries waiting for you in this game have given me hours of enjoyment thus far (I've barely explored the map as a whole). This is the type of game that'll make you fall in love with gaming, and especially to anyone who loves the series but desires something new in terms of game-play style.

Zelda goes back to its roots
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This may possibly be the best modern--overall even--Zelda ever made. It has the go-as-you-please exploration of the early games with the visual flair of the latest games. It doesn't waste time holding your hand. You can go wherever you please from the beginning--but of course if you haven't toughened/upgraded your hero enough you'll probably have a rough time against enemies. The puzzles are smoothly integrated for you to find. The map is huge. There are beasts to hunt, ingredients to gather, and horses to train. I can tell Nintendo really put some effort into this game, and a lot of resources. If you have a chance, watch the "Making of Zelda" videos in the news section of the Switch too.
