I remember growing up and receiving Zelda (the gold cartridge) for my birthday. I spent hours and hours playing that game. Death after Death, trying to find all the hidden locations (back before we had internet to look everything up). Zelda games since have been great but haven't brought back that feeling of exploration and discovery. Now BOTW has arrived I feel like a kid again. From the excellent graphics to the tight gameplay and open exploration I feel like Zelda has come full circle. This game has everything you want in a Zelda. Challenge, discovery, and loads of quests to do. The graphics, while cell shaded, are excellent and fit very well with Zelda. If you have a Switch, you have to get this game. It's a game that is worth the price of admission for so many reasons. I have tons of time in this game so far and have only scratched the surface. Highly recommended.

A masterpiece game, you can't go wrong with this one. As always, it's a Zelda game which doesn't fail to meet high expectations. A huge amount of gameplay is available with numerous side missions which will keep you busy playing this game for at least 40+ solid hours.

Not only is this the best game available for the Switch, it may very well the best game I've ever played on any console. The attention to detail in the game is outstanding and there are multiple ways to tackle challenges. You can get creative in how you deal with enemies. You can chop down a tree and roll the log down a hill to cause some damage or stop time and launch an exploding barrel. You can even light your arrows on fire which opens up new possibilities. The story is amazing and there are many side quests to do. There is certainly no shortage of content. The only issue is that there are occasional frame rate drops when entering a forest or an area with a lot of grass. It only seems to happen when the Switch is docked. In handheld mode, the frame rate is pretty consistent. This doesn't impact gameplay, but it's noticeable.

    The hype is warranted...

So I'm a fan of The Witcher 3 on PS4. I recently purchased the Switch for my kids but they don't like to play on it because they are infatuated with their iPad and Minecraft. So I was reading all the reviews about this game and how much hype surrounding it. I've also seen the youtube videos and still could not decide until today I made the purchase and let me begin by saying this isn't a full game review BUT I will say the money spent on this game was worth it! (I have Bestbuy's gamer's club discount at $47.99) - NO GAME IS WORTH MORE THAN $50. Sorry but it's insane to see how games are priced at $60+ these days.) The initial review of this game is that after having played over 100 hours of The witcher 3 excluding the expansion packs so far, I am quite overwhelmed with the witcher 3. The battle system and inventory system is just staggering and has a steep learning curve. So you must invest a lot of time. But with this BOTW game, the learning curve is not even close to being like the Witcher 3. The entire summary so far in my progress of this game is that it's fun to play and keeps me coming back. BOTW lacks the amount of details compared to The Witcher 3 but I am having a great time playing with my kids watching by my side. In fact it's more fun to play than the witcher 3 because it's much simpler and the inventory system is vastly smaller than the witcher 3's. Let's talk about the graphics - I have zero issues with the graphics and in fact it's actually a very artistic and beautiful game! Don't try to compare the two because it's completely different and BOTW in it's own style is great but the witcher 3 has it's own style and is superior as well. Overall with my current progress (which is still early in the game ~4 hours in), I am impressed enough with this game to tell people who are The Witcher 3 fan's to try the game out you won't be disappointed. BOTW is just fun to play and I enjoy exploring everything in this game. It seems The Witcher 3 is open world as well but somehow it feels linear and repetitive (go here come back do this and go back to the beginning, repeat it, etc). BOTW is just easy to play and I haven't touched a Zelda game since SNES days. That's a LONG TIME AGO. I am happy with this game and I can only imagine if Nintendo made a true Zelda game from scratch using Switch hardware instead of porting from the Wii U - this already is impressive considering it wasn't designed on the Switch in the first place. So if you are wondering if this game can hold up to The Witcher 3 - I'd say it can and I find myself playing this more; because it's family friendly, it doesn't take complete focus as you need in the Witcher 3, and you don't need to spend so much time like you do in The Witcher 3. I usually get in the Witcher 3 game and less than 1/2 hour I am already drained because there's just so much to explore and do sometimes I just get tired and quit. With BOTW I can just load it up and play and it's something special with the way Nintendo produced this game because it keeps you attracted and coming back. I don't have any issues with weapons breaking because you just go off and find more weapons. I love the bow and arrow and the entire game is just "fun". The load times are not atrocious - it's not lightning quick like in the new Sonic game but I don't have any issue with load times. In fact coming from The Witcher 3 on the PS4, anything less than that game is heaven, lol! Overall I am happy I bought the game and I can say without a doubt you will enjoy the game. The hype is warranted and I can see myself playing until the end! Nintendo can keep making games like BOTW and for sure I will say the Switch will live on a long time. It's not always about graphics power on a console; it's all about the software!

Zelda: Breath of the Wild may be Nintendo's best game ever. Nintendo has created their biggest world ever and there is so much to do in it. From crafting to hunting to adventuring there is fun to be had around every corner. Tons of collectables, items, new powers too. But what really sets this game apart from other Zelda games is the openness of it. See a place you want to investigate? Well, just go to it! There are few obstacles, and most of them can be overcome with the right items (in the form of buffs you craft). Almost nothing is off limits. There is some slowdown when played in TV mode which I've experienced, but nothing that would stop me from playing. This is not only a great Zelda game, but should set a new standard for content in open world games in general.

If you are on the fence about this, you should just hop on over. Hands down the best gameplay in a Zelda game. The game is designed to encourage exploration and it feels amazing the entire time. Even if you havent been a Zelda fan in the past, I'm sure you'd love this game. It has a brand new story that is uninflueced from past games while including a lot of callbacks to past characters and locations. The combat is simple, yet forces you to have stratigy and good timing. Theres a reason metacritic has this game rated at 97/100 because this game will keep you captivated for hours and hours.

This is hands down the best Legend of Zelda game! For the first time in the series, there is voice acting and a unique story unlike many of the games that have come before it. The Open World is enormous and no player will have the same experience due to the plethora of different approaches one can take to complete objectives and side quests. The amount of exploration in this game will cost you hours upon hours and from the graphics to the gameplay, the developers have outdone themselves and this game is a testament to just that. Quite frankly, I believe it will be very challenging for the Next Zelda game to top this but I have no doubt the next game in the series will deliver!

This is the greatest game ever made. No question. I don't even know where to start reviewing this game. It has a fantastic and touching, and sometimes heart wrenching story told in the most amazing way. The gameplay is simple and satisfying, and just works. The exploration is unlike anything in any other game, ever. The artstyle fits it perfectly. It has horses that are amazing and make you hurt inside if they die. It has dogs. If you get the wolf link amiibo, you can have a little wolf pet. If you can only buy one game for the Switch, this needs to be it.

I was blown away by breath of the wild, I went into it with high expectations and it met them. The world and gameplay blew me away with a sense of freedom unrivaled by any open-world game I have played. The story line while good takes a back seat to the exploration and discovery aspect of this game. The various shrines and puzzles were all fantastic and only 1 out of the 120 shrines was frustrating in an unfun way. While I would have liked to see a little more enemy variation and larger shrines they are minor gripes that detract very little from the gameplay. I finished my first play-through with just over 90 hours in the game and intend to play again on master mode. If you have a switch this game is a must have.

So... This game is massive, there is ALOT to do... It is the most challenging Legend of Zelda game yet, with very few tips and almost no guidance as to where and how you should take your adventure into Hyrule. I love the puzzles, some are a little challenging even for Adults. The primary game is open world and it takes a while to get from point A to point B... Sometimes it's a little too big and takes too long to get around at first. Long loading screens make the game seem tedious when you fast travel. A lot of unforgiving combat scenarios make fighting monsters challenging as well. This game is really designed for a more patient and mature audience although young children can enjoy the game.

I have been let down by the past few Zelda games from the Wii and DS games but that ends here. Zelda Breathe of the Wild is an amazing games that while it does have some getting used to once you get over the hump the game becomes one of if not the best Zelda game. The downsize of some area's being too hard to at the start of the game, weapons break and finding some of the shrines can be no fun. Once you get past those you will find one of the best action adventure games around, it does not hold your hand but thrusts you into a world that you wont want to leave anytime soon. The game is worth your 60 dollars and while maybe not everyone's cup of tea if you give it a try you may fall in love.

Let me start out by saying that Breath of the Wild is one of Nintendos most revered, most complete, and more extraordinary games to have come out in recent years ..With all of the original Zelda comparisons...in some years Breath of The Wild may be considered one of the best games of our generation. Im lucky enough to have had my childhood experience with the original..and also played Ocarina of Time. Previously, Ocarina of Time was my favorite Zelda, but now Breath of the Wild takes that crown. The combination of original the Zelda's open style go anywhere gameplay...with modern combat that includes magic, projectiles, sword play , and use of the environments creates an amazing masterpiece. Breath of the Wild has massive environments that may appear barren at times, but as you play, you will discover treasures, secret areas, shrines, and stumble upon mini bosses. The most rewarding gameplay mechanic is that the game allows you to explore and discover various things. The player can discover small towns, enemy encampments and even areas that not only have mini bosses but an actual boss. The game does have several side missions, but it does not bog you down with mundane fetch quests. The player truly can literally go anywhere in the game. What I loved about this is that I did go out and take on enemies that were to strong for me and encountered bosses that were too challenging at first, but was able to escape the area and discovered some shrines and cooked different items to become stronger / level up and then came back to the area with more knowledge of combat and strength. The shrines feature numerous puzzles that require you to use link's abilities as well as combat tests that truly teach you how to play the game better. The voice acting may be out of place at times and some characters may not leave a lasting impression. For the most part, the main characters and a few side characters are great additions to the story. The story is not revolutionary, but it does get the job done. The art style is great but definitely hides some issues very cleverly. There is beauty to be seen with some breathtaking moments. The frame rate does dip low in some areas , but this doesn't negate the marvelous experience of playing one of the best games created by Nintendo. This is one game that every gamer should experience playing.

Breath of the Wild has taken the formula of the previous Legend of Zelda games and expanded it into something majestic. Weapon choice, exploration, horse taming, climbing, flying and swimming. And that's just within the first 30 minutes of the game. There is so much to do and experience, I find myself just wandering for hours on end before returning to the mission at hand. The controls are pretty easy to learn, and the difficulty can vary depending on your exploring habits. If you stick to the main story it's pretty linear. However if you are like me and wander off the beaten path, you can and will get hit hard by some of the enemies out there! Highly recommended!

Nintendo knocked this one out of the park! As a kid I laid on the floor with graph paper and colored pencils and mapped the entire original game and mazes. I can't imagine how long it will take me to become that familiar with this amazingly huge world Nintendo has created for Breath of the Wild. One can be enthralled by any aspect of the open format; Tired of exploring? Just stop by the fire and spend some time cooking. Wander, hunt, cook, fish (hee hee I fish with bombs) fight, collect or run away! Great game. I am a treasure hoarder though so the only bad thing I can say about the whole game is that cry a little when I break a good weapon.

Overall a great RPG. Has a high difficulty to the game because it doesn't auto assist with everything. Amazing story, wide areas to explore with lots of different side quests and rewards for exploring, and no leveling system which is nice you maybe a little more powerful later due to more health but no like real power leveling except on your sheikah slate and its small upgrades. This is a good benefit because if you defeat a hard monster you get his gear which helps tremendously. The only downside is how quickly weapons degrade but If it wasn't for that you would be to powerful all the time.

I was late to the Zelda Breath of the Wild game by a few years... "better late than never." I'm an old school gamer. How old? Original NES and the gold cartridge The Legend of Zelda old... man, that's old. I've played my fair share of Zelda games, and skipped some all together. My favorite Zelda game of all time is A Link to the Past. I compare any new entry to ALTTP. With BOTW being more of an open world type of game, so I didn't expect much of a story driven experience, and well, I was kinda right. The game itself is beautiful. The overall design, character designs are some of the best in the series. The music and sound effects complimented the graphics. It was one of those "feels like being in the game" experiences that I hadn't felt in a good long time. Not only are you swinging weapons, but you're also picking up food, and eating to survive. You can literally traverse to any location by land, climbing, or swimming, or in some cases, shield skate boarding. The sense of freedom is what made this feel like the original Zelda. The temples are challenging, the voice acting engaging, and the story was surprisingly compelling. I've only played about 20 hours, and I've enjoyed every minute of it. The controls handle well on the Joycons, with the random drifting that comes with using Joycons, but nothing I couldn't get used to. I have never played Ocarina of Time, Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, or Skyward Sword... but something about an open world Zelda game made me think of the original NES and the SNES version of the game. Now, almost 3 Nintendo console generations later, I got to try my hand at another Zelda game... Now I have an itch to go and try out the other ones too... dilemma dilemma. Overall great game, DEFINITELY try it.

The reviews really don't lie. This game is a 10/10. Everything in this game is so thought out by the creators. Compared to most games, you will be wowed by the attention to detail in every aspect of this game. It's one of the most immersive games I've ever played. It's truly open world and there's no linear path that you have to follow, but their is one if you seek it. The player freedom for me is the best feature in the whole game. You can get lost for hours in this game without advancing the story and you still won't be bored. There's just so much content. This is a must have for any Switch owner even if you're not familiar with the series.
