I never played the origina. It's new to me and follows a very easy, casual gamer path. It's a pickup and play game for a few minutes to an hour at a time. I don't feel compelled to rush through it like with the original Zelda games.
Basic is not a bad thing. the graphics are eyecatching and the controls are easy to use like the other zelda games.
If you haven't played it and aren't looking for much of a challenge I suggest you pick this one up.

I’m glad I picked up links awakening I love the cute art style,,,, I enjoy it’s game play even if it’s a lil easy, but it really is a game for all ages~
But what I like most is how easily I lose track of time when playing^^

I've been on the market for a Nintendo Switch for the past 2 years, but I've been hesitant/on the fence about it because of the lofty $300 price tag. However, this past year, with the release of Legend of Zelda: Links Awakening, I just had to relive the experience that I once had way back when I played this game on the Nintendo Gameboy. So this past Black Friday, I decided to just go for it. This game is awesome! It is just as fun as the original, just the way I remembered it!
However, with regards to the console, I have other things to say. After reading product reviews and other blogs, I quickly came to realize that Nintendo had just recently released an updated Switch with better hardware. And by hardware, I mean the battery. The original model included a battery which held a charge for 2.5-6.5 hours. The game system that comes with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, is likely that original model. The newer model is the exact same switch, from what I can tell, however it comes with a better battery. The newer batter can hold a charge from 4.5-9 hours.
The unfortunate thing regarding the newer model is that currently, it does not come with a game. But, I decided to forgo getting a free game with a worse battery and instead purchased the new model. The important thing to know when shopping for a Switch is that the outside packaging (box) doesn't tell you which battery you are getting. So if you just grab one off the shelf, you won't know just by looking at the box if it is the old model or the new model. However, from what I have read online, you are able to tell based on the first 3 letters of the serial number. On the bottom of the box, locate the serial number. For the newer battery, look for the serial number that starts with XKW (not XAW). XAW is the old model, while XKW is the new model.
Additionally, if you are buying an open box/used switch, you can tell which model you are getting based on the MOD number on the back of the unit. When looking at the back, look for where it says MOD, if you want the newer model, you want the HAC-001(-01) model. If it says the MOD is HAC-001, that is the older model.
While you are essentially getting a discount by purchasing a Nintendo Switch with a game included at the same price as a Switch without a game, I personally think it's much better to get a console which comes with a longer battery charge.

Awesome game. Well designed with amazing story. Never played the original or dx versions which made this game all the more exciting. It's not a long game by any means but extremely enjoyable. I would recommend it to anyone who owns a switch.

Played the original gameboy in the 1990s as a child. Played the gamboy colored version as well. && now we are revisiting to the modern updated version of links awakening. Blown away by the animations, bringing back the feels and the relationship I had with the zelda game. The magic is still there, even better. Thank you, Nintendo & Best Buy.

Link's Awakening is over 20 years old, yet by simply adding a beautiful new art style and leaving the game as is, it is still fantastic. It's a classic and the switch version is the absolute best way to play this game

The Link’s Awakening remastering brings everything from the original Game Boy game and makes it better. Unfortunately, it doesn’t have much of anything that the original didn’t have, meaning no new dungeons or endgame content. Newcomers are certain to spend more time in their first play through than us veterans that remember most of the puzzles, but the quality and nostalgia alone are more than enough to justify the price tag.

If you played the original Game Boy release, be prepared for a flood of nostalgia. While this isn’t the longest Zelda game, it scratches the dungeon-puzzle itch and deserves a place in your collection!

The game itself is wonderful. Brought me back to the game I played on my Gameboy as a child and wonderfully redone for the modern Switch console.
Leaves something to be desired performance-wise, which is very unlike most first-party Nintendo titles. When you change areas, the FPS drops pretty heavily and pulls you out of the immersion. Nothing gamebreaking and would still recommend. Hopefully it can be patched to fix.

My 8 and 39 year olds are having a blast. Looks amazing on 4k tv. The kids call it a vintage game? I can't say much else for the gameplay, sorry. Overall, the 8 year old and the 39 year old both love it.
