Great movie that went on sale when LEGO movie 2 came out. Everything is awesome

I love this movie! It is very entertaining and has a lot of good funny moments.

I loved The LEGO Movie [Blu-ray] [2014]. It has great characters and story line.

I did not see The Lego Movie in theaters, but I have only heard positive things about the film so I took the chance purchasing the blu-ray when I saw it in store. However, I believe that if I have seen the film before, I probably would not have purchased the blu-ray. Rated 4 stars as a compromise between the 5-star animation and the 3-star writing. The animation is phenomenal and a treat, and I'm sure true LEGO fans could spend hours analyzing each frame to admire how true the animators were to the swedish plastic bricks. However the writing -- specifically the style of comedy and the quality of the characters -- left me underwhelmed. I understand comedy is a matter of preference, so I would say if you enjoy Will Pharrell movies then you would enjoy The Lego Movie. This is not because Will Pharrell is in it (he is), but because the comedy has predominantly improvisational feel, backed up by awkward interactions. It did not appeal to me as I prefer my comedy a bit more structured (I feel The Lego Batman Movie leans more towards this style, and I did find that film more enjoyable). As subjective and personal as comedy may be, I feel the main character is incredibly boring. Like, intentionally and primary to the plot boring. As in, boring is his most important characteristic. I've heard many say that Batman steals every scene he is in -- well that's not hard to do with a main character as bland as this. Though it's impossible to separate that aspect from the message of the film itself, I feel that The Lego Movie suffers for it.

Got free ticket to the new LEGO movie with it. This original one is better. 4-stars for “everything is awesome” and novelty of concept at the time.
