Good upgrade
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love all of the Powell/Pressburger films from this period, and this is amazing achievement considering the (wartime) conditions that is was filmed during. Propaganda is there, but not heavy-handed. It's a long film, but thank goodness, the shortened versions that used to be shown in the US are long a thing of the past. Definitely an improvement over the DVD, but just a reminder that a big plus is the Audio commentary featuring director Michael Powell with Martin Scorsese, Powell is a bit tough to understand, but was caught just in time (he died shorty after it was recorded).

Sublime
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is perhaps the greatest of the collaborations between Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger, which also makes it a strong contender for the greatest British film of all time. It shows a Britain coming to terms with shifting from Empire to the realities of the Second World war along with much more personal stories of love and friendship. Thanks to the Film Foundation, it has now been remastered and looks absolutely gorgeous. This disc is a must-buy. A classic in every sense of the word.
