I purchased the Best Buy Exclusive 4K + BLU-RAY + DIGITAL "THE LITTLE MERMAID" STEELBOOK, and Wow! The steelbook is absolutely beautiful featuring the art of Paige O'Hara (Belle, of "Beauty and the Beast") and as far as video and audio, I truly don't know how it could get any better! Crisp and clear with the color timing correction makes this Disney classic pop right off the screen with very vibrant colors and detail. The music numbers and action sequences are heard clearly and distribute in all the right areas of the surround sound system. Loaded with special features and overflowing with information, this Disney Signature Edition is a must-have! Movies Anywhere gives you a UHD 4K Digital Copy as well! Highest reccommendation!

The 1989 classic that got Disney animation back on it's feet. Love Sebastian & Ursula is one of my favorite villains. The Oscar winning music. Now, let me pick apart this 3 disc set. Only the 3D disc has art work on it. They started this last year-cheap discs with no artwork from the film. Cheap. And, the recent thing they input when you use pause instead of the film just pausing things are going on. Kind of defeats the purpose of "pause" right? Only new extras of interest to me was the part with Jodi Benson (Ariel) at Disney World. There was NO new making of segments, just old segments from previous releases of the film. But, yet the unnecessary tradition of having some current musical artist redo one song from the Oscar winning soundtrack. NEVER have watched or listened to those on any Disney DVD or blu ray release. A great film that stands up the test of time as a Disney classic. Just remember the little things wrong with the 3 disc set I mention above.

As it is one of my most favorite Disney movies, I had very high hopes for the long awaited Blu-ray release of this film. I am very happy to say that this one, (as is true with most Disney releases) was well worth the wait. Yet again Disney has presented us with a pristine version of a very beloved film, and has stocked it to the gills with bonus features to satisfy you desire for more under the sea fun. I do have to say that while I enjoy watching the 3D conversions of older Disney movies, it isn't exactly my preferred viewing method. That is not to say that Disney has done a bad job of converting them to 3D. They actually have done a quite good job to be honest. I just like to watch it exactly as I remember it when I would take my little brother to the theater so we could watch this in the theater. I think I took him to see this six different times! So as special as this movie was to me, the Blu-ray release was highly anticipated, and was definitely worth every penny. Disney does an amazing job with their Diamond collection releases and this one will make a very welcome addition to the collection.

I won't going to too many details about the film because if you don't know what this movies about you're probably in trouble! However I want to focus on the 3-D version of this movie. I was actually pleasantly surprised by the 3-D in this film. Don't get me wrong, it's not the greatest 3-D you've ever seen but my expectations were pretty low going into this movie especially when you consider Disney's hit or miss ability to remastered these films. You can tell that there was some effort put into the 3-D version and there's some pretty good parts throughout the film to take advantage of this, others are just depth. Again I'm not saying this is one of the best 3-D films of all time. It's good considering Disney's track record of 3-D on these remastered films. If you have some gift cards or certificates that you're looking to use up you might want to invest them in this film and up being a bargain!

Unfortunately, I've watched this movie more times than I'd care to admit. Between younger sisters, Rita the Lionhearted and Maria the Sillyheart...and now my lovely daughter, Olivia the punam, and son, Michael the Dumbfounded, I've seen it well over 100 times... That said, it is a wonderful children's movie. Great music, great story...just good clean fun for kids... However, I do have some issues with Ariel's strategy regarding her 'bargain' with the Sea Witch...I mean there's alot on the line here fish-face!!!...yet she makes no further attempt to convince Eric that she's the mystery girl beyond making a silly motion to her throat...you gotta draw things in the sand woman!!!!...make pictures in the wall...make a singing mermaid sculpture out of your mashed potatoes...something!!!!...and Eric can obviously understand Sebastian...that's how he knows her name...couldn't that smug little crustacean have had a sit down with him??? But I digress...maybe I've seen it too many times...

    Charming hand-drawn instant classic

What a charming film! So cool to see hand-drawn animation again, complete with some human-made flaws (Ariel's face is drawn inconsistently in some scenes). But Ariel's naivete and charm, brilliantly voiced by Jodi Benson, quickly draws you into her story. Then, by the time you reach the musical numbers, Part of Your World and Kiss the Girl, catchy songs weaved perfectly into the story, you can't help but be reeled in (pardon the pun). But be aware that initial pressings of this film featured an error in the editing towards the end of the Part of Your World number. It's a little minor and most folks probably wouldn't realize the editing error. But Disney have fessed up to it and will send you a replacement by contacting them. Here's a link on the Disney.com site with the full information. http://www.disneystudioshelp.com/detail_Mermaid%20Replacement__SUPPORT__S.html

This is the property that generated the rebirth of the animation at Disney. A deceptively simple effort that reveals great depth in composition, casting, music, and giving the public what they needed at the right time. Without the success of this movie, none of the following juggernauts in animation would have been possible. Part Of Your World is the most memorable and sincere effort in the entire catalog. Not a standout title for 4k demos because of its age, it is still THE most important modern day effort from Disney to date. Extraordinary, Pure, and Powerful! A+++

I bought this to give my mom for her birthday. She doesn't have a UHD Blu-ray player yet, but does have a 4K TV and Chromecast ultra, so I splurged and went for the 4k edition. Really, animated content fairs pretty well when up converted, so it's probably not necessary to spend extra, but Disney claims the movie was remastered for Atmos. I don't have an Atmos system yet, and I don't expect my parents to ever upgrade from 5.1. But if they ever do, there is something to look for from this edition.

Well, it's actually quite depressing to call _The Little Mermaid_ a Disney classic, but since it's been 24 years, it's time. I was two when this movie came out and I have always loved it! The script, songs, voices, and animation are all wonderful. It's also great to finally see this movie in blu-ray format. Like the _Beauty and the Beast_ blu ray, _The Little Mermaid_ looks fabulous. The colors are gorgeous! I haven't gotten a chance to watch the features yet, but they don't look overly spectacular. The deleted character feature looks cool, though. Anyway, I recommend this movie for all millennials who grew up pretending to be Ariel! Kids and adults of all ages can enjoy this marvelous Disney film (which reestablished Disney's prominence in the film world). Highly recommended.

Recently taken out of the Disney Vault, which seems will be a relic of the past once Disney's new Disney+ streaming service launches, this is the movie that kicked off the Disney Animation Renaissance. Following were classics like Beauty & the Beast (first animated movie nominated for Best Picture), Pocahontas, and The Lion King. As with most hand-drawn animation, you're not getting a whole lot of bang for your buck in regards to picture quality between DVD and Blu-ray. That being said, the picture and audio on this Blu-ray are great.

I bought this for me and my 8 yr old daughter. I did feel like the graphics were enhanced. There is a good amount of extras. My daughter was head over heels about the sing along feature. The bonus about some of disneys leading ladies was pretty cool. Stories from the walt office was a blast. My favorite was the "deleted charactor!". The only thing I didn't ike was in order to view ALL the bonus content you would have to put in both dvd and blu ray. They split the bonuses onto both discs. I perfer it be on the same disc.

This is the first movie I remember being completely obsessed with as a little girl. Now in my 20's, I was still obsessed with it enough to pre-order this when it first came out. The remastered formatt is just so amazingly stunning, it makes me giddy as that little girl again. Now fans get to see all the awesome featurettes that go behind the scenes. My favorites were about how the composers went about creating the music, including learning how some of the more beloved songs almost never made it in the film. There are tons of interviews from all the cast and crew, so you get tons of insights into the building of this wonderful film. I encourage everyone, boy or girl, to see this.

This film kicked off the famed studio's 2nd Golden Age. This was Disney's last fully hand-animated feature, and the style and heart is reminiscent of the older classics. The tale itself comes from an old fable, as did most of the early Disney gems. This is my wife's favorite Disney movie, and without it, we probably would have never had The Lion King, Aladdin, Beauty & the Beast, Lilo & Stitch, etc, and Pixar would probably never have materialized. Today we take the art of animation for granted, but back in 1989, animated films were few and far between, and the ones that did exist were rather bland. I would highly recommend The Little Mermaid to anyone with wee ones, or who simply loves well-presented animated stories.

It's a toss up as to whether the 4K version is really needed over the Blu-Ray, but regardless, this movie is a classic and a must have for any Disney fan's movie collection. I am collecting all the signature collection marked films as they release as I do not have any diamond series or even further back. If you already have this movie and are debating on upgrading to the signature collection, the only perk would be the digital copy IMO if you didn't get it from the previous release.

When the little mermaid came out in 1989 it jump started the rebirth of Disney animation after so many years of dwindling returns. There were some really good animated films released after Walt Disney had passed but none were quite at the heights of his legendary career. When the little mermaid came out it brought together music, animation and story perfectly and became an instant classic. The blu ray is crystal clear and reminds you again how great an animated film can truly be.

The timing for the release of this iconic Disney movie is perfect for me. My granddaughter just turned two and is becoming a Disney Princess fan. Her mom was six when The Little Mermaid was originally released and it was a magical movie that changed the whole style of the Disney animated movies. Ariel had real facial expressions. And the music was music that made us both sing. This is my all time favorite Disney movie. I'm hoping it will be just as magical for my little princess.

While the picture and sound quality were not recorded in today's technologically advanced standards, for a movie 30 years old, the picture and sound quality on this format were quite good. We have a 75" screen, and the picture filled it, unlike other "older" films which end up getting cropped at the edges, due to inferior source materials used. Disney went all out to ensure this was the best picture we could get, and the movie itself still holds up well today.

I saw this movie when I was a kid and to see in HD blu-ray on a Sony XBR TV is amazing. The colors and clarity are fantastic for the LAST drawn out Disney movie. We can watch this movie time and time again, not just for the movie but for the music. Plenty of times I sang these songs at Karaoke. Don't miss out on a great time with the family by not picking up a copy. This is one that should be in your collection no matter what...

I remember as a child begging my mom for this movie on vhs and with her looking all over town just for this movie. That being said when I heard about this movie coming to blu-ray was a must have for me. The transition from vhs to dvd and to blu-ray was very clear picture. Ursula still is one of my favorite villains after all these years. This movie is a must have to watch with your children and they will love the songs that is in the movie.

The Little Mermaid looks great on 4K bluray! Not a massive uptick in sharpness (after all it's a series of drawings, how much detail is there?) but a definite improvement in color and in the richness of the image. The sound is good too, but it does fall a little bit short of the new soundtrack on The Lion King 4K bluray. Still, The Little Mernaid is a good purchase for any die-hard Disney fan with a 4K bluray player and 4K HDR TV.
