I must admit I was expecting the less-than-stellar direct to DVD animation that is so prevalent these days -- where it looks like something that was made for TV. But I was pleasantly surprised to see the animation is superb! Just as good, if not better than the original theatrical Little Mermaid feature. The story is rich and compelling, much more than I would have expected from a Disney G-rated feature. Children probably won't appreciate the depth but the adults will, which makes it quite pleasing to sit thru over and over again, LOL! My only disappointment is the musical score -- or severe lack thereof. Yes, trying to match the majesty of Ashman and Menken is surely a lofty goal, but the original songs by Jeanine Tesori are really completely forgettable. And I was left scratching my head as to how the character of Marina (acted and more spoken than sung by Sally Field) gets *2* musical numbers while Ariel (once again voiced by Jodi Benson) gets roughly 1/2 a song! And that's it! So if you're expecting another unforgettable tune like "Part of Your World" or "Under the Sea" (as I was) you'll be severely disappointed. All in all it's entertaining nonetheless -- I just wish they had put as much effort into the musical numbers as they did the animation and story.

This is another classic from Disney. Your child will love it and you will enjoy watching along with them.

this is a really good movie 4 the ppl who liked the little mermaid. u get 2 c how it all began, her mom, n how she met flownder, n u get 2 c all her sisters. I love the visuals in this movie and the music.

I am a huge disney fan and couldn't even get through the first half hour of this movie without wanting to tear my eyes out of my head. The plot makes absolutely no sense and from what I remember, struggled to connect with the original.
