Best way to watch this movie!

This movie is fantastic and looks better than a lot of movies out even today. Seriously Sauron's all seeing eye is something to behold in 4K, sheer terror. It's a shame that Best Buy is getting rid of 4K movies... As someone that likes BB and owning 4K movies, this move is really shortsighted on BB's part and I'll probably be canceling my Best Buy+ :(

    Average 4K Release

The movies are the greatest trilogy in all of cinema, ever. Period. This 4K blu ray is a mediocre effort with the original 2K masters just DNR'd. Sure it looks 4K sharp, but it's not true a 4K rescan/transfer. Comparison screenshots will show you smudged details and artifacts that were not an issue in the older original blu ray releases. Certain flashback scenes have been washed out to nearly gray-scaled. Aragorn's future death flashforward scene with Arwen at his tomb is entirely darkly gray-scaled and stylistically altered. The overall color tone is more washed out and not as color rich as it was in the original blu rays, which gave them a fantasy feel and tone. It's a business as usual 4K release that improves on as much as it also hinders in other regards. If you're a LOTR fan, you're going to buy it and I can't say not to. If you don't care either way, then it comes down to personal preference. For such an iconic and substantially significant trilogy of films, they could have been handled better in terms of 4K, if I'm going to be honest.

I upgraded my sound system and TV. We had the original series in DVD. WOW is this an upgrade. You can't tell so much in the first movie - but in the Twin Towers - the video and sounds are absolutely stellar. Not sure why the big difference between movie 1 and 2/3 - but it is worth the upgrade!

What can i say? I wanted 4k lord of the rings gloriousness and that's exactly what i got. You know there's some good high quality when the blu ray needs 2 discs. Woooo baby. It looks great on my 65in 4k Sony tv and sounds amazing. Would definitely buy again.

Native 4K, higher frame rate, recolored and updated visual effects, it’s a great experience. I will say the print on the top of the discs could be better. It almost seems faded. But easily my favorite purchase amongst my 4K collection.

This was a gift to our adult son who loves Lord of the Rings. He has an awesome 'theater room' with an enormous screen. This 4K movie was incredible to watch! We watched this trilogy over 3 nights and it was such an experience.

Great movie. The Ultra HD version was really sharp compared to the DVD version I had but some of the disk were damaged. Unfortunately, it seems like Best Buy no longer carries the ultra HD version anymore

This collection truly has it all. The theatrical and extended cuts of all 3 films are here across 9 discs. Outside of watching a theatrical rerelease, this is bar none the best way to experience these films.

Some people dislike the digital noise reduction on these. I didn’t have a problem with it and enjoyed the clarity and sound design. Packaging was eh.

What can be said about these masterpieces that hasn't already? I will add that the 4k transfer is excellent. Well worth the upgrade from regular Blu-ray.

Great movie! Quick pickup. Only downside is there are multiple disks in there and the holders on a couple were broken so the disk fall out.

One of the greatest trilogies now in 4k. You get both the theatrical and extended versions. The extended makes such a difference.

I haven't watched these in atleast a decade. I had refused to rewatch them until i could get these 4k extended cut releases, and I'm glad I held out.
