Tremendous upgrade to a spectacular epic trilogy. The improvements are immediately evident in The Fellowship of the Ring. The garish green tint has bee removed. The colors pop off the screen and the movie is a visual treat. The improved quality is not limited to the first movie, but is equally evident across the entire trilogy. I was concerned about how the CGI and other effects would look in this upgrade. I was pleasantly surprised that they have held up beautifully and were every bit as convincing and enjoyable as when first released. I highly recommend upgrading to this and to the Hobbit Trilogy in 4k. Both Trilogies have received tremendous treatment.

I was skeptical at first, but I’m a HUGE LOTR and The Hobbit fan, so it was an easy choice for me. I was blown away by the fidelity and superb remastering in this box set. I have the previous release blu-ray box set and I thought it looked great as well. However, I recently purchased a 65” Samsung Q90T QLED TV and an XBOX Series X which doubles as a 4K UHD player. Before purchasing the 4K UHD box set, I had recently watched the regular blu-ray version of The Fellowship Of The Ring and to be honest, I was disappointed with the upscaling and lower quality the regular blu-rays provided when watching on my new set up. Well, after purchasing the new box set, I re-watched The Fellowship Of The Ring and I was completely blown away by how crisp and clear all the scenes were compared from the previous remaster. If you are a serious fan of The Lord Of The Rings and The Hobbit, then this box set is a must buy from Best Buy (see what I did there?)

If you are a fan of the movies, you probably already own the blu-ray edition. I think 4K UHD transfer is fantastic and definitely an upgrade from the blu-ray edition. I own quite a few movies in blu-ray and in 4K (as I try to upgrade my most favorite movies to the best available format) and I must say that sometimes 4K transfer could be disappointing. I recently purchased Total Recall 4K and I wasn't impressed. It was grainy. And I noticed that with other 4K editions: the video quality is not better or not detectable. However, Lord of The Rings 4K UHD does not disappoint. I could see that video clarity is superior to blu-ray (on my LG OLED 55" TV) and Dolby Atmos audio is fantastic. The set comes with regular theatrical versions of each movie and the extended editions (In my opinion, the extended versions are the only way to watch these marvels of cinema).

Unless Peter Jackson releases another director's cut with 100 minutes of new footage per film then this is the definitive edition of The Lord of the Rings. The 4K edition cleans up some of the contrast issues from the older Blue-ray editions. The sound is also top notch. If you have a 4K OLED and a rocking sound system then you are in for a true cinematic experience with a beloved story the world over.
Of course, no move can capture the full depth of Tolkien's Lord of the Ring's series. It is the closest we have ever gotten. If you have not checked this out yet then do yourself a favor and immerse yourself in cinematic history.

The 4K remaster definitely makes the films pop more and look great. The sound was redone and is great in the home theater. They stopped including the digital versions in these bundles which is disappointing considering the price. Great movies, great remaster just wish had the digital copies

I was a bit skeptical of this as I was worried it might be a money grab. Thankfully I was very wrong. This is my third time buying the trilogy (had DVD and Blu-ray) and I don't regret it one bit. This is light years ahead of the Blu-ray quality. It was like watching it for the first time all over again thanks to the video quality upgrade. The detail is simply stunning. It's hard to believe it was filmed almost 20 years ago. To give an example you can actually see the fibers and weave detail on Sam and Frodo's green cloaks. I couldn't believe it. You truly get to appreciate the detail that went into the costumes not to mention the amazing sets and scenary. I'm just about to start my second viewing. If you are even remotely a fan of LOTR this is a must buy and don't hesitate to upgrade. This is like going from a cassette tape to hi-fi FLAC quality files.

If you’re a LOTR fan that has a 4K entertainment system, this set is a must have. I was skeptical because the original was released 20 years ago, so I expected to overpay for only minor upscaling. I was instead very pleasantly surprised at the excellent video and sound quality. And the extended versions add about 3 hours of playing time to the trilogy, so it’s like getting a bonus movie. My only complaint might be that the discs do not securely stay in place when stored and risk getting scratched if you’re not careful opening the case, but I can’t really complain because they managed to fit 9 discs all in one case (physically the size of 2 regular DVD cases). The pluses far outweigh this one minor flaw, so it still gets 5 stars from me!

The movies are amazing, but the packaging is not good. It seems cheap for the price of the collection. I had the same issue with the Hobbit version. Besides that the movies are timeless and was glad to finally have both theatrical versions and extended versions in 4k.
